August 15, 200917 yr The last three or four times I've been to KI, Beast hasn't been open for ERT at all. (you'd think, with the money they make from their overpriced food, they'd be able to afford one of those standup signs to put by DB that says "The Beast is currently closed.". They have enough of them advertising their ice cream.) Action Theater doesn't seem to open with the park, either.
August 15, 200917 yr I was there Yesterday (I actually think I saw you exiting Vortex as I was getting on) and The Beast wasn't open for ERT that morning, and Action Theater didn't open until late in the afternoon and even then it was only running in 2D rather than 3D. We weren't even given glasses when we went to ride it.
August 15, 200917 yr Well, last time I went to the park when it opened, The Beast wasn't running. The attendent said it was broken down. So, I don't know if it's just coincidence or not.
August 15, 200917 yr I doubt they entirely cut The Beast from the early access to Diamondback. Sometimes it opens later than they want it to because they're still inspecting it and making sure it's safe for everyone.
August 15, 200917 yr The Beast has been having electrical problems and been getting stuck on the lift the last couple of mornings.
August 15, 200917 yr Well, The Beast is 30 years old. It has to have problems after that long. I'm sure CF can fix it though.

The ride is maintained and tested daily and sometimes that takes longer than expected. That's just my take on it, though.
August 15, 200917 yr Author I really wish that they would make a sign that says "The Beast is currently closed." and put it out by Diamondback. It's kind of annoying to walk all the way back there and find it closed, when I could have easily gotten at least one ride on Diamondback.
August 15, 200917 yr And how would you feel if the sign were there but the ride was in fact open? Not to mention that such a sign would mean some people might not pass opportunities to spend nickels, from Potato Works to the games....

August 15, 200917 yr Author Maintenance/testing is a good reason, but it seems like it's not "sometimes" but "most of the time". I can only think of once recently that it's been open.
August 15, 200917 yr The Beast is getting to be an old man (for a roller coaster). Maybe it just takes him a little longer to get going in the morning than the young whipper-snappers like Diamondback.
August 16, 200917 yr The Beast is getting to be an old man (for a roller coaster). Maybe it just takes him a little longer to get going in the morning than the young whipper-snappers like Diamondback. i am a few years beyond 30 and i can relate to not functioning well in the morning. beast was open this morning during ert's, but it looked like a train load of people were halfway out of the station and stopped as i flew by on DB. i know 2 weeks ago it was down for ert's, but that was the first i had seen it down.
August 16, 200917 yr My last visit it wasn't open for ERT. On June 14th. I don't think it was open for ERT. On June 10th. it was closed but because of rain like everything else. And the day before that it was closed during ERT too, I think. But all my other visits It was open for ERT.
August 16, 200917 yr I don't know if it is a new thing this season, or maybe I'm just getting to Kings Island earlier than I used to. But I've noticed several rides on several visits opening up late. I took my sister this past Thursday - The Beast and Vortex were both closed. The indoor Scooby Doo ride also opened late (not sure if this is normal) as well as Action Theatre.
August 16, 200917 yr I've been to the park about 9 times throughout the year, and every time I've gone, the rides have been operating as scheduled. With some exceptions...

Maybe it just takes him a little longer to get going in the morning than the young whipper-snappers like Diamondback. ...And then there are also the days when Diamondback goes down and everyone flocks to Beast. Fun times! Since I have to comment on the original question, I can assure you that The Beast is still part of the morning ERT schedule. There are occasionally problems that arise that cannot be anticipated ahead of time. Maintenance goes over and above to try to make sure that the ride is operable and when such problems do occur, they are fixed as quickly as humanly possible. The electrical problems of this Thursday and Friday mornings would be the exception rather than the rule. The Beast just felt like sleeping in. Flyer, who gave away too much, but it's already in the open anyway!
