matt3224
Do you think pay rides are worth the money you spend on them? How many of you all actually pay to ride these rides at KI? Personally, I think they are good ideas because it helps the park out but I do not think that they should be quite as expensive as they are... although they are not bad this year. DragonLord
I have never ridden a pay ride... and most people seem to ride them when they are cheap, like Sling Shot being 15 instead of 25 like normal. They lowered the price of Xtream Skyflyer, and it seems more people are willing to ride it now. I need to ride Sling Shot one of these days... matt3224
I rode SlingShot a while ago for the first time... It was really fun. Edited January 1, 1970 by matt3224
RiSK
X-Treme Skyflyer is quite possibly the most thrilling ride at PKI. It is, indeed, a pay as you play, but its the coolest thing imo. Ive done it many times, and my first time doing it, i rode with a hot girl
StXBomber
yeah, skyflyer is the best pay ride I've been on, I think it's better than slingshot.
SOB_TOM
Imagine for just a moment that Skyflyer and Slingshot are non-pay rides. The lines would be humongous! Personally, I wont pay to ride them, but I love working them!
CoasterXtreme
I feel that pay rides are not good business, You pay so much to get in to the park. I think that they should raise the price of admission a few bucks and take away the charge to ride. I do know that one of the Six Flag parks has done this and it is working very well for them. I have never paid an extra fee to ride anything and I won't either, But as long as people are paying for these rides, I am sure the extra fee will remain. Stop Paying so they will include it in admission. P.S. Gold Pass Member should be able to ride these for free!
Browntggrr
Dreaming of rides, at any park, that don't include extra $$ is like hoping that there will be free parking, it's never going to happen.
Dane
P.S. Gold Pass Member should be able to ride these for free! I second that motion!
slingshooter0607
I think that the pay rides are GREAT.It just depends on when ya ride em.Sling Shot's rates switch ALL the time. And everytime I have rode Xtreme Skyflyer this year it has been $10 a person..(But I have always had 2 other poeple to ride w/ me).But they are AWESOME!!Sling Shot is more exciting then scary..So if ya catch the rates low...Ride it.Xtreme Skyflyer is AMAZING!..I have NEVER had a sensation of free fall like that.I was speechless..BUt if you catch the rates low and ya got the cash and are willing to spend it..Definitaly try Sling Shot and Xtreme Skyflyer... bingog34
One of the reasons these rides are pay-per-rides is their capacity. They can't take more than 6 people every 10 minutes. The lines would be so long, even with Gold Pass members only. I don't understand why Gold Pass members think they should get more special privileges than they already do...after all, they only bought their passes at a special time, when most people buy them anyway. It doesn't make sense for the park to give them out for free, they should have $10 added on to the pass to get it.
RiSK
I couldnt imagine what would happen if Gold Pass members got on free. I would NEVER get to ride it again! The line would be sooo long.
CoasterXtreme
[ Dreaming of rides, at any park, that don't include extra $$ is like hoping that there will be free parking, it's never going to happen.] It has happen at a Six Flags Park not sure which one though. [ Imagine for just a moment that Skyflyer and Slingshot are non-pay rides. The lines would be humongous! Personally, I wont pay to ride them, but I love working them! ] If people see the lines are full it might make them want to ride it more! matt3224
If they added money on to the price of admission then what about the people who don't ride them? They are screwed with more price and have nothing to show for it. And the people that do ride it can ride it all day long for nothin. They should keep it the way it is and have people buy it when they want to ride... one guy I talked to rode Skyflyer three times and was planning a fourth, he didn't mind the cost obviously. SOB_TOM
No, it would turn people away from the ride. How many people saw TRs line last year? It was about 2-4 hrs, depending on when you caught it. That really didnt make me want to ride the ride.
CoasterXtreme
What is a dollar or two more! What about when they add a ride and people don't ride it. It is the same thing, They still raise admission. I just think by charging for rides like that they nickel and dime you to death.
matt3224
Yea long lines turn me away, but I do see that when people ride Sling Shot and Skyflyer it does make people want to ride... they see how high/fast it goes and decide they want to do it... Seeing it in motion attracts people. P.S. If you don't want to pay for it... Then don't! Simple really! CoasterXtreme
I don't ride them! They would make more money on the selling of the tape if they would just let people ride it for free with admission. Just my thought!
matt3224
When I said "you" I didn't mean you, I wasn't talking directly to you. But when they have a cost to them...it is for a reason. Outside companies own them, at least at first and then sometimes the park takes over. For Days of Thunder, the cost is to pay for gasoline to run them... sure the park makes money, but it does pay for track maintenace and gas too. slingshooter0607
Since none of my friends that I go w/ to the park is as big as a buff of it as I am..Most people use the "Well..Its only gonna get longer..Why not just go ahead and wait " method. And if the line is long..It must be worth some sort of wait. And sometimes there is still a line for the pay rides.I have waited up to 30 minutes for Xtreme Skflyer. bingog34
The issue isn't the price! It's the capacity of the ride. If Xtreme Skyflyer held 50 people a run, it would not be $10 a person. The lines would be incredibly long.
bingog34
Sorry, I thought of this right after I posted a second ago. EXAMPLE: Days of Thunder at PG day. It's usually a pay-per-ride, but when they made it free one year, the line was extremely long. The case would be worse for Sling Shot and Skyflyer, since they hold less people. AZ Kinda Guy
Speaking as an employee on the SlingShot crew, the more people see it run, the more people want to ride it. As for the extra cost to them, if it bothers you then don't ride it. Edited January 1, 1970 by AZ Kinda Guy
King of Coasters
I think that they are not worth the extra money it sould be free. Expect the Skydiving ride that is the only one that you should have to pay for.
WildCat
I would be more than happy if Kings Island took out all the pay for rides in the park. Think of all the room Kings Island could build something with if they took all the pay for rides out. A new coaster could fit in that area very easy or some flat rides. But as long as people pay for the rides they will be in the park.
italianchef
As author of The Unofficial Guidebook to Paramount's Kings Island...I was MORALLY obligated to try all the pay rides.....and they all came out of my pocket. I wouldn't elimate them...just lower the cost. Sling Shot made me scream more than any time in my life. It was and truly is awesome. I highy recommend it. Xtreme Skyflyer is cool too - but not as much. Italian Chef
BoddaH1994
Raising the price at all for admission is a bad idea. I didn't have a pass last year, and paid 32.00 to get in. If I were a tourist, it would have been fine, but since I usually go there 20-30 times per season, I was a little ****ed. Every park has pay per rides. In fact, a lot of parks have pay per every ride. You need to be appreciateive that they're not charging $5 every time you ride The Beast. Personally, I don't have a problem with pay per rides. I mean, the park is giving you individual attention so you can ride a ride that seats 2 or 3 people. On the other hand, I truely believe that they should lower the prices greatly. Xtreme Skyflyer is cheaper than it has ever been and it seems like the business reflects that. I'm sure that they're going to make more money off of it this season than any other season since it's been opened. I think the Xtreme Skyflyer is at a good price sitting at $10. It really is one of the more thrilling things that someone will do at a thrill park. Sling Shot, on the other hand is really just a glorified carnival ride. Don't get me wrong, the ride is amazing, but I still think that it should sit between $5 and $10. Thanks, Ryan
teenageninja
The Six Flags park that has a free S&S Absolutely Insane (Glorified Slignshot) is Fronteir City and is not actually a Six Flags branded, it's just owned by them. and it also has very low attencance and the ride holds 8. Losing Streak
They can't be made free with admission because the lines would be outrageously long. Also, the money generated by those rides helps to pay for new additions and fixing up old things in the park. Just because you don't want to pay doesn't mean somebody else won't, and clearly plenty of people do. I saw one day that the games people had a goal to get somewhere around 50 riders in an hour for Days of Thunder. So that means that hourly capacity is probably around 75-85. Figure, about 7 cars max, with a 5 minute cycle. 12 cycles an hour, multiplied by 7, is 84. Capacity is horrible. Delirium can handle more people then that in 5 minutes. That is why those rides have to be pay-per.
