josh4958
I went last Sat & Sun, both days Drop Tower was closed.. Was it down for maintenance or low staffing levels? Just asking. Sorry I did not read the "Drop Zone" post, that is the same as mine.

Beast1979
From what I've heard they were replacing a cable, but don't quote me on that.
jessie8
I seen Drop Tower running at 6:15 last night but I don't if it ran during haunt.
Beast1979
It was closed a good portion of last night due to wind.
flightoffear1996
Im just wondering why a ride closes in high winds. Its not like its going to fall over
Diamondback96
It probably won't fall over (if it was, they'd evacuate the whole park), but high winds may cause discomfort for the riders.
Guest rcfreak339
^Thats most likely it, The wind levels are much different 310 feet in the air then they are on the ground.
flightoffear1996
Yes but the ride isn't going t9 blow over cause of the winds.
TylerRider
Well it was closed last sunday and two saturdays ago.
Diamondback FOF
Maybe they don't want to take a chance on the ride swaying and stress cracks happening, and then an accident happening. Yes, very unlikely, but possible. Also, I would think it would be recommended by the designer to not operate in high winds, and those recommendations must be followed. Diamondback FOF
That first part is exactly what I said... On a different note, i wonder how far underground the base of the tower goes?
Beast1979
That first part is exactly what I said... On a different note, i wonder how far underground the base of the tower goes? So far that it's actually connected to it's distant cousin: Tower of Terror in Dreamworld, Australia! In all seriousness, I would imagine if a normal footing goes down 30+ feet then Drop Tower would go down a hundred feet or more.
Jasper
I went to the park last night and when I walked in I saw Drop Tower going with people on it! I was so excited and was so ready to ride. Well sure enough it closes down for the night. I was still happy to see the ride running. Seems like they must have gotten the cable fixed if that truly was the issue. Jasper
Garrrr!!! You lucky people who went today and got to ride it! I didn't even get to ride my baby the last day I was at the park this year. Have no fear though, opening day next year, first ride will be Drop Tower.
CoastersRZ
That first part is exactly what I said... On a different note, i wonder how far underground the base of the tower goes? I have just the answer you are looking for. Steven Schaefer Associates, Inc., which is a Cincinnati based structural engineering, designed Drop Zone`s foundation. The foundations contains a 700 cubic yard concrete pile cap. The pile cap is supported by 16 H piles that are driven 90 feet deep to bedrock. Diamondback FOF
Wow! Does that mean the tower that we see goes underground 90 feet, or does it just get secured to the piles that were driven down 90 feet?
TylerRider
It will be difficult to move demon drop.
flightoffear1996
I think the footing for Drop Tower must go to by what used to be the stunt tower.
SFGAm Shock Wave
For wind, the reason the tower rides shut down is because the lift cables start blowing and slapping the tower. I know at SFGAm, regardless of the wind speed, if we notice a cable hitting the tower, that car (our tower in a 2nd Generation) is removed from operation and maintenance parks it at the top of the tower so the cables aren't exposed
