Fear Factor

Second poll in 10 minutes...making up for almost 2 months with no polls...

We all have our favorite roller coasters, but in some cases, our favorites aren't the most intense ever. Using myself, as much as I loved Beast, it was a walk in the park compared to some other coasters I have ridden.

The fear factor. Coasters so crazy, so fast, so insane, they make you say "OH SH!%!!!". Coasters that have you huffing and puffing and thinking "Oh...My...Gosh..."(or something equally stunned)as you come back into the station. What is the most frightening and intimidating coaster you have ever ridden (or it looked so scary you dared not even try it!).

In my case, Diamondback takes the cake. Being over 200 feet in the air, and then feeling like I was going to fly out scared me to the point where my knuckles were white. I was holding on to the lapbar so hard, my hands hurt afterwords. I had to catch my breath afterwords. It was an amazing ride, and one intense one as well. I have only been to KI and Indiana Beach, so one day Diamondback may lose this title.

Or maybe it won't. But what coaster scares you the most?

Looking up the track at TTD and just seeing the monster you have to climb is somewhat scary the first time. You just sit there and wait. Then it launches you, and before you know it, you are at the top and having the time of your life.

Scares me the most?

Coaster?

The Williams Grove Cyclone...any coaster whose guylines are tied to trees is bound to be a bit scary...not to mention the trees growing through the ledgers on the lifthill.

Skycoaster? Joyland Park in Kansas. The strait jacket thingy is not supposed to make creaky noises as you are lifted IF it was properly attached....I sure hope it was properly attached. Being as I am typing this, it must have been at least adequately attached, or divine providence intervened....

Sounds like the straps might have been a little twisted!

The only coaster that ever really scared the hell out of me was Millennium Force at Cedar Point, on my first ride. I was still afraid of heights at that time. It hit me while we were in the station how high we were about to go, and I freaked out to the point where I had a panic attack. I still rode it, because we'd driven 4 hours to get there and it was my reason for my first visit. I absolutely loved the ride, so it totally destroyed my fear of heights.. I ran back and rode it again! :)

No coasters really, "Scare", me anymore. If I had to pick on though I would have to say Top Thrill Dragster is the most intense. It's not that scary, it's just the first launch is so intense and full of excitement. Not to mention the spiral downward from 420 feet in the air.

For me, my first ride on Son of Beast. This was back in 2006 (a week or two before the big accident *phew*) and I was 9. There was just something about the ride.. Something just didn't feel right about it. There's really not supposed to be a wooden hyper coaster. It's just too much for the wood to handle.. I just didn't feel safe on the ride. Maybe its just what its supposed to feel, being a wooden coaster and all. This was really the only time I didn't feel secure on a roller coaster. This was really the first time I had ever actually been scared of a coaster.

Today, although it is actually an okay ride in the front seat, I get kind of nervous before riding it. I may sound like a coaster 'n00b' so to speak, but this is the one ride I am actually afraid of. And while I am scared of it, I will ride it if I am asked to do so.

Josh, who is afraid he is becoming more of a roamer than a poster.
