shadow2k3
It did feel weird not seeing that sign coming into the park today. I was so used to seeing that thing there, then POOF, no more sign. Did anybody who was there lately notice plastic fragments in the parking lot? I did, and ended picking up some for the sake of history and cleaning up some litter.. lol. ~S~
andyatuc
I always check the time when I pull in to see if I'm late (my time clock was 4 minutes off of the sign time) but today I didn't know what to do. I kept wondering "was the sign there or there?" I couldn't remember...it was sad... :-( Andy

SOB_TOM
I was walking back to my car to get some food (so Im poor, look where I work!) and I thought, "Man, its cold. Wonder what temperature it is?" and looked for the sign. It was sad. Just so you know, the TR crew gave our "fallen comrade" a memorial service of a run of antechamber, preshow, and the ride (all empty) and a moment of silence. Its was so beautiful, I started tearing up.
StXBomber
I made a small memorial in my room, a thing I quickly put together on Word and pinned up on my pinboard (right next to my autograph of Kenyon Martin). It has a pic of how it used to look, and 2 pics of when it fell. If I get bored enough, Ill make a better looking one in photostudio and post it here. BoddaH1994
You know, I bet a bunch of outsiders would read this and think that you guys are crazy for the tributes to the sign. Personally, I see/saw it as a momumental tribute to the greatness that is PKI. This only proves that momuments may fall, but PKI will live forever! AZ Kinda Guy
Ok maybe I'm in the minority here but it's just a sign. Don't get me wrong it's awesome the thing stood for 32 years but these type of things don't last forever. Frankly, I'm surprised they just replaced the marquee over the offseason. Ecspecially with the unveiling of the new logo. Oh well. Good thing they didn't I guess. Edited January 1, 1970 by AZ Kinda Guy
Beastfreak
Wow!! What an interesting history. I never realized it was built... changed then fell. Tear.

Ecspecially with the unveiling of the new logo. Oh well. Good thing they didn't I guess. To be honest with you, if someone hold asked me "What do you think people would do if the sign fell?" I'd probably say that no one would care, but it seems self-evident that that's not the case. I guess it would be comparable to if you got rear-ended in your crappy car and it totalled it. You're excited because you get to get a new car (on their insurance) but at the same time, you can't help but feel awkward because the car that you are used to is no longer in your driveway. That's kind of how I feel about the sign. I mean, it wasn't the main thing that I would go to see when I went to the park, but it is going to be odd not to have it there. Although we're probably going to get a bigger, better sign, it just won't be the same.
IcarusLives
I really don't see any reason to get upset or start lamenting the sign's demise. I like the park but the sign was just another sign in the huge collection along I-71. Maybe they will install a new one that is a little more original and creative than one made back in 1972. SML828
BoddaH1994 - That pretty much sums up my feelings... I drove up there yesterday and it is weird without it being front & center. When you are used to seeing something for 31 years (I've only seen it for 25 years), it's weird when it's suddenly gone.
beastbreakdown
its just like 9-11 (except for the people) when that happend you where use to seeing them then there gone the next minute then you get over it but it will always be in a little part of your heart

Just like it. Exactly. you gotta be kidding me. THIS IS NOTHING LIKE 9-11! I lost 343 of my "brothers" on 9-11 and you are comparing it to some darn sign. This is crap. IT'S A SIGN. Yeah, its gone, but so what, it will get replaced, unlike those that were lost on 9-11. You can't compare people to metal, and if you think you can, you have lost the grip on reality! Also, whoever came up with this stupid post, I will tell you honestly that i find it highly offensive that you are comparing dead firefighters to a sign! Tanner
Is it just me, or did he get the majority of his information from the thread here on the Sign Falling. Seems to me to be that way.
Dane
The sign falling is NOTHING like 9/11. 343 firefighters lost there LIVES. PKI lost a old hunk of METAL that lit up at night. I admit I wrote an editorial on it but that was just to tell its history. P.S. Fyrfyter took it easy on you.
Beastfreak
I'm closing this before things get worse. Though in response... I can slightly see Beastbreakdown's point, but maybe he could have used another example. He did mention that it is similar WITHOUT THE PEOPLE THAT DIED . You take forgranted something that is there, i.e. the tower itself. The next day it is gone. Either way, we should still show our respect for both.
