Oldiesmann Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I noticed last night that the 3D glasses for Boo Blasters are made by a company called American Paper Optics, and was curious as to how much the park (or Cedar Fair) was actually making off those things at $1 a pair. After doing a little research, it appears that they may not be making too much off them (unless Sally Rides is footing the bill, which is unlikely). The cost for 1000 pairs of the 3D glasses sold for Boo Blasters is $862 with shipping. The park is selling them at $1 per pair. That means the park would make a whopping $138 off 1000 pairs of glasses. Hardly seems worth their efforts... Quote
Oldiesmann Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 Just find it interesting that the park is pushing them so much when they're likely not even making that much off them - 13.8 cents a pair, minus whatever it costs them to pay someone to stand there and sell them... Quote
chaddie Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Don't forget that they are paying someone to sell those glasses all day long. 12 hrs * $7.25/hour = $87 just in labor (without payroll taxes). They need to sell a lot of those glasses to make any real money. Quote
coaster_junky Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 plus, other rides in the Cedar Fair chain have the option of purchasing 3-d glasses (disaster transport comes to mind). is there another price break with a higher amount of glasses purchased? if so, they could buy in extreme bulk and just distribute where need be. if Kings Island is paying for their park's only, i think they should ditch the 3-d glasses and go with some stickers to place on backlot's coaster trains to make them look a little bit more like a car and not a blob with wheels. rhoustonh Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 We rode early in he morning and I never noticed where they were being sold honestly forgot about it also. I loved the ride as did my wife (who got startled by one effect). If they only sold 1,000 pairs a day, that will still make around $15,000 for the season. I'm sure they will sell more than 1,000 pairs a day and as goodyellowkorn says, $ > 0. Quote
Oldiesmann Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 I'm sure there are other price breaks if you order them in larger quantities - 1000 was the largest quantity available directly through their website. Quote
RD Reynolds Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Do the glasses make a big change in the ride? I didn't really see where it would make a difference... RD Quote
Oldiesmann Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 I noticed that Boocifer stood out a bit more with 3D glasses on, but that's about it as far as I could tell. Fortunately the glasses were only $1 so it wasn't a huge waste. Quote
BoddaH1994 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I've ridden it several times with and without 3D glasses. I actually prefer it without. Makes it easier to hit the targets. Quote
BoddaH1994 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I noticed that too. Seems like they've always had problems with the blasters. It is, however, fair to say that it's in better operating condition now than it has been for years. Quote
muppetfan1999 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I have this theory that the amount of blasters that work depends on how many people are on the car. I think this because at one point I rode it with one other person and only two of the blasters worked. Another time I rode it I rode it by myself and only one of the blasters worked. Anybody know if my theory is right? Quote

chaddie Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I have a feeling that some of the guns will not work all of the time, but all of the guns will work some of the time. Quote
muppetfan1999 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 When I say blasters I mean the physical guns you use. Quote
coaster_junky Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 ^ ... and i believe that he was trying to say that you could have just randomly ended up in a car that two worked one time then the next, once again luck of the draw, you ended up in a car with only one gun working. Quote
