Diamondback96
Set your DVRs to record The Brady Bunch at noon on May 20th (Thursday) , because it's the Kings Island episode. Just wanted everyone else to know about it.
EssentiallyCoaster
Yay! Finally get to see it!
alluna
Thanks for this, setting the DVR!
Lakota88
The whole episode is available on YouTube as well (in three parts). Good quality too. I discovered it just last week. I watched it straight through first, then the second time I watched it I kept pausing at different shots to look at the park. It's sad how many of the rides and features are no longer there. Unfortunately there are no good shots of Hanna Barbera Land, but you get a good look at most of the other parts of the park. Part 1 Part 2 Part
frisbeefan
The Brady Bunch was always a cheesy show. This episode does show some of the nice landscaping and charm of the park though.
CincyMan98
The Brady Bunch has the worst acting ever! If it wasn't for KI distracting me from the acting in the episode, I wouldn't have watched it. I actually didn't know it was about Kings Island, I thought they just went to an amusement park and only showed The Racer.....I don't know. But that was great! It was interesting to see some of the past
TopThrill
Thanks I will set my DVR right now.
IslandAddict
I've seen the last half of it but I just went and set the DVR. My mom's never seen it, but she said she would love to see the park from "back then."
Oldschool75
Title Fail.
KIfan1980
FYI for those DVR'ing this. The last time TVLand showed this (as part of a Brady Bunch marathon) it ended up starting about 15 minutes before the scheduled time. I'll be recording from 11:30am - 1pm this time so I can see the full show (hopefully!).
pyrocoasterkid
Title Fail. I agree.... I hope it was a typo, but I'm assuming it isn't. I would hope that someone familiar with or from the area would know how to spell "Cincinnati" correctly.
The Interpreter
And here I was soooo proud of myself for not pointing this one out... It really needs fixing, though. Otherwise, searching for this later will be nearly impossible. We have the same situation on the title for the thread on dumb things guests say...look next time you see it...I figured that one was intentional! alluna
Blah. I didn't know to record it early, so we missed the first 15 mins. My son got a real kick out of this. He is becoming quite a Kings Island trivia buff and enjoyed pausing the show and looking all through the background at the skylift, kegger ride, etc. We are headed for Math & Science days tomorrow, so I'm sure I'll be hearing about this episode all day tomorrow! EDIT: Found it on YouTube for those who missed the beginning. Here is Part 1, I'm sure you can find the other three from there: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=nXfZuvLuzOY DOUBLE EDIT: We found this map online tokind of follow along and compare to the current map while we watched. Its from 1972: http://cartophilia.c...sisland1972.jpg
Diamondback96
I spelled Cincinnati wrong? But I don't have to know how to spell Cincinnati correctly because I live in Indianapolis! I'll change it. I'm going to be watching it soon.
Lakota88
. . . Found it on YouTube for those who missed the beginning. TopThrill
Yep the episode started three to four mins before 12 noon. grr
Pillsberry123
This episode proves a point... The Racer needs a new coat of paint! Comparing the way it once looked to now is absolutely pathetic!
TopThrill
I second that, Racer looks much better in Red, White, and Blue. Not all white.
The Interpreter
It isn't all white. It's mostly a dingy gray now. Sigh.
Pillsberry123
It's not only dingy gray, but it has little brown specks where the paint's chipped away. Oh, and don't forget about the black crap when you look up from underneath the entrance to Xbase.

Oh, and don't forget about the black crap when you look up from underneath the entrance to Xbase. Let's hope for a off-season paint job for The Racer (and, if we are hoping, let's hope they revive the RECAR!)
EssentiallyCoaster
Unless PTC removes the recommendation for running the trains backwards, RECAR will never return.

Diamondback96
Unless PTC removes the recommendation for running the trains backwards, RECAR will never return. Or if The Racer gets new trains...
Pillsberry123
Unless PTC removes the recommendation for running the trains backwards, RECAR will never return. Or if The Racer gets new trains... The Racer was built by PTC. New trains won't change that. I'd also rather see PTC trains stay on it even if it means that both sides have to run forwards. The Interpreter
Perhaps in a matter of a few days, your opinion will change. IF the PTC's could run as they did the day the coaster opened, I'd agree with you. As they are, I do not. There are better choices than those heavily modified PTC trains. They run almost nothing like they did in 1972.
Oldiesmann
Did The Racer originally have trains set up similar to those on Woodstock, with the buzz bars and bench seats? I honestly don't see why individual lap bars or seat dividers are necessary.
The Interpreter
The Racer had the same trains it has now, but it had flip down single position buzz bars, no seat dividers, plush cushioned seating, no head rests, no seat belts and was controlled by manually operated big old brake levers almost invariably operated by elderly gentlemen in the early years... They run almost nothing like they did in 1972. I made a wrong assumption. Usually when someone says "new trains" they mean new&improved trains. Let me explain. I don't think Timberliners or Millennium Flyers would work on a ride like The Racer. Part of the fun of The Racer (or any classic woodie for that matter) is sitting down low in the car, not riding on top of the car. If it gets new trains I would like to see duplicates of what the trains were originally like, or at least something built similar. And if The Racer gets these nostalgic trains then it's slightly older, blue cousin up North should also get a set. Obviously this isn't going to happen so I don't even know why I'm bothering typing this...
The Interpreter
I actually think Morgan trains aka California Coaster Cars would run better than the heavily modified PTCs do at Kings Island (or Cedar Point).
