Cedar Point's new thrill ride for 2011 will be announced in mid-August -- a relatively early announcement compared to previous ride announcements.

Mid-August is fairly early compared to the last few announcements, but I can imagine that it may have been pushed up to offset negative press in regards to Shoot the Rapids.

Cedar Fair's chairman and CEO, Dick Kinzel, dropped a hint about what's coming. "It's going to bring back a lot of memories for people that follow Cedar Point," he said.

A return of the Cyclone perhaps?

With the markers stretching the length of the Oceana Midway, including on the beach, perhaps the Cyclone and boardwalk project has been brought back to life.

This may be an attempt to divert attention away from more than just Shoot the Rapids...a recent executive departure may well result in some sort of legal action in about that same time frame...or that employee may wait a little longer before proceeding...the Statutes of Limitation give him that luxury...as do certain other Statutes of Limitation for other things...

Then there's the whole matter of debt and refinancing and covenants and sons and such...

This may be a stretch, or wishful thinking on my part, but could it possibly be that they have decided to relocate Big Dipper from GL to CP? I have been saying since winter "Wouldnt it be nice to see CF relocate Dipper to the area where Demon Drop was located, and possibly save a little face and get some positive PR?"

Because Kinzel has never been able to separate Cedar Point from Cedar Fair. The Point has become his personal sandbox, and the fact that he still speaks on the park's behalf is ludicrous.

Cedar Point is Mr. Kinzel's 'baby.' Should he ever leave the company, that will be very hard for him. He even lives in the parking lot. Honest. He also sees himself, as he recently told us, as an 'operations guy, not a finance guy.'

Am I the only one who's looking past the Kinzel crap and looking forward to the new ride? Granted, the fact that the CEO of 11 parks is treating 1 better isn't right, buut come on, Cedar Point is getting a new thrill ride!

Oh, I'm excited about it. Especially if it's a classically-styled woody running along the beach, and double especially if it transforms the area into a proper Victorian boardwalk.

I'd put my money down that it IS a GCI... Renegade, Prowler, and the cancelled GCI at CGA offer some support to that theory.

Kinzel throws out a "nostalgia" teaser... survey markings all over the Oceana Midway (very close to the home of the original CP Cyclone).

The dots are all there...

^^I would love a CP boardwalk with the Cyclone added, which could be built by GCI. That would be awesome..

My guess is Gravity Group, possibly GCI. I guessed this back in 2009 when DD was for sale just did not want to say anything while employeed just incase I was right, LOL

According to another source, this Intamin Creation may be a new prototype creation we haven't seen anywhere else before. Stay tuned!

That woodn't be too surprising...or it could. Should this steel turn out to be something else, watch Lance edit what will then be the past to make it appear he was more correct than he was. It's happened before, and more than once.

Remember when it was said that nothing could beat out Dragster? Well, Six Flags did it and has had nothing but trouble since.

How many of the parks including Canada's Wonderland have gotten a new coaster in the last 5 years? Kings Island had not gotten a new coaster since Stunt Track. (Firehawk don't count as new). And Cedar Fair has 14 parks if you include the 2 water parks not next to Knotts in California.

The "Kinzel crap" (as Jackson put it) will have a far bigger impact on the future of Kings Island than any new thrill ride at Cedar Point will. Perspective. One of the most important things in life.

Was that visit from Walter Bolliger last month at Coastermania more than just a hello? I'm not sure he would fly all the way from Switzerland unless he had some business to discuss.Just a thought.
