Captain Picard
That must mean the brokerage firm wants out of their FUN units.
KIfan1980
Trying to be fair, today a major stock brokerage firm upgraded FUN to long term buy. And the stock market responded, on a day when the general market was up about a percent and a half, with FUN units going up three tenths of one percent. Or to put it another way, the market was underwhelmed by this upgrade. I saw that and did some research. This firm initiated coverage in 2006 with a strong buy reco - and units at ~$26. Since then they've downgraded and upgraded a few times - they do not inspire any confidence.
The Interpreter
Meaningless drivel from a so-called analyst: http://www.marketintellisearch.com/articles/1029090.html I interpret this as saying, really, these units may go down, may stay the same or may go up. Big whoop! Terp, who apparently entered the wrong profession!
RingMaster
The local Thrill market is depleted, and has been for quite some time. The family market (local, state, and country) is pretty much wide open. Neither Paramount nor Cedar Fair seem to understand. Just my two cents. I can't recall ever seeing a family at Kings Island... Sometimes a parent with their children, in Planet Snoopy, but never a whole family. And Planet Snoopy isn't a large enough section for a whole day visit. You must not go up to Kings Island all that much. I've ALWAYS seen families at the Island, even if it isn't the "family of four" that's supposed to be the standard these days. And I believed Paramount understood the family market was open all too well, otherwise the World's Best Kids Area award the park has had for close to ten years now would be somewhere else (although, to be frank, that was essentially more towards the younger set than the entire family) and we may have ended up like Worlds of Adventure with too many thrill rides installed in too few years without letting the general public get a chance to adjust to new surroundings. But I guess people just didn't like Paramount 'cause they wouldn't give us a Beemer or a Timmy.
Coney Islander
Two things. 1.) True, I don't go to Kings Island all that often... Once, maybe twice a year, so it actually is pretty likely I've gone on days in which not many families are visiting. 2.) Planet Snoopy pleases the younger part of a family group. Sure, the kids might love the park, but how much do the parents enjoy their visit? Yes, they will enjoy watching their children, but how much more would they enjoy spending the whole day doing activities and riding rides with their children? Sure, they have the train, the Coney Mall flats, Snoopy Surf Dog, Woodstock Express, Snoopy Rocks on Ice, but (1) The family rides are few and far between, and (2) Many families don't even know about them... You'd think they could put a little bit of information about these in the park map, or something. I did not include Adventure Express, The Crypt, or Flight Deck... The park map lists them aggressive thrill rides, so they do not fit in the family category. (Though they should...) Rides that generally have one or more of the following: high speeds and. or heights, aggressive and unexpected forces, and rapid directional or elevation change. Riders will encounter many unexpected rapid changes in speed, direction and/or elevation. This, to me, does not scream family. Browntggrr
Yes, they will enjoy watching their children, but how much more would they enjoy spending the whole day doing activities and riding rides with their children? I am going to take an educated guess that you do not have kids, so you really don't know what screams family at all. When my kids were younger, I didn't care about riding the big rides, I wanted to be with my kids- even if it was not on the ride with them. Watching their face on a ride is priceless, and worth all the money spent. Also as a parent, you learn what rides you can accompany your kids on real quick, it does not need to be spelled out in great detail, and along with that, a majority of the rides are parent/ child friendly. Where do you possibly get the notion that there are not many rides for a parent & child combo at KI? What does need to be spelled out is the Parent Swap Program. Each park had it's own version, with different rules. It is difficult to keep up with the different policies- especially when the some of the ride operators are unaware of the program. Coney Islander
I do have very young cousins, and I understand that their expression on rides are truly priceless. I make sure to get as many pictures as I can. Still, *I* would love even more to enjoy the rides with them. Though, I am the only teen I know of who very much enjoys kiddie circle rides... And Frog Hoppers. They're a blast! Where do you possibly get the notion that there are not many rides for a parent & child combo at KI? Sure, there are many intense thrill rides at Kings Island, that you can ride with your children. But, there really aren't very many 'gentle' rides... My mother does not want an extreme, or even thrilling experience, and her very favorite rides were The Antique Cars, and the Flying Eagles. She hasn't been to Kings Island, since their removal. True gentle rides, Kings Island has The Dodgems, The Grand Carousel, Woodstock Express, Race For Your Life Charlie Brown, The Great Pumpkin Coaster, Snoopy's Junction, and the Kings Island and Miami Valley Railroad. The rest of Kings Island ride's are meant to thrill, no matter how small the thrill is.

The rest of Kings Island ride's are meant to thrill, no matter how small the thrill is. Now I see what the issue is. Since the park has taken out a couple rides that meant alot to your family, it has left a bad taste in your mouth. There is nothing wrong with that. Not including BB, KI has 46 rides. 13 of those rides are considered thrill rides and 33 are considered family rides. Now in those family rides, 6 are considered high thrill or agressive thrill. That still leaves 27 family rides. http://www.visitkingsisland.com/public/park/rides/height_guide.cfm It is unfortunate your mother does not enjoy most of KI's rides, but let's face it, KI is not for everybody. If she is not happy with KI's lineup & attractions, I really can't think of another place she would be better off as she will face the same issues. KI Kevin
It's going to be a great ride. All thrill rides aren't coasters. It's going to be something that I think the teen market is really going to like. What's this mean? Could it mean that the GCI rumors aren't true or is Kinzel pulling our legs on this one? Coney Islander
^^ It would be incorrect to say that this 'put a bad taste in my mouth'. Kings Island can add any type of attraction they please. Its just that, since Coney Island has more abundant family activities, given a choice between the two, my family generally chooses Coney. The Pool, The Rides, The Slides, The Shows, The Games, The Gardens, The Space for picnics and sport activities leave more than enough to do in one day... And very inexpensive, compared to Kings Island. (The racetrack, also a plus. Though technically not part of Coney.) // Yes, Kings Island has 33 , but many of them have maximum height limits, two of them will get you wet, and some of them (Danny Phantom's Flyers, in particular) are very uncomfortable, for many guests... Make sure to check out this list. 21 out of Kings Island's 34 defunct rides were family oriented. Kings Island's purpose has definitely shifted, over the years. // This is one of those topics we've just got to 'agree to disagree.'
Browntggrr
It would be incorrect to say that this 'put a bad taste in my mouth'. Intresting. So KI removed two rides, your mom has not been back since- but it didn't leave a bad taste in your mouth. So why has she not been back? Sure KI has removed rides. I can only see two of those rides you referred from Wiki that did not have the same "uncomfortable" feeling you referred to due to their size, that were not replaced with other family type rides. Coney Islander
Actually, the answer is pretty simple. We don't have anything against taking a family visit to Kings Island... Its just that Coney Island has more family oriented stuff, and is closer. Sure the rides aren't as impressive and the views aren't as breathtaking, but we've found a niche at Coney, and we love it. If you haven't been to Coney Island, I really suggest it. A great place for families, The pool alone can keep you occupied for quite a long time. (Some say days...) Keep in mind that a large part of the pool is shallow, great for young children to splash around and play.

Coney Islander
^ I actually don't know what you're talking about... You mean the water play area? I know the wave pool can be 'splashed' in, but the shallow area isn't all that big. I've always seen Kings Island's wave pool as hectic, and far too busy. Coney has around an acre of shallow water, so this is (normally) not a problem.
CoastersRZ
He was referring to zero depth entry. Ie, the edge of the pool goes from nothing and slowly deepens. This is a big deal for smaller kids, as well as those with disabilities. And for the record, Kings Island`s wave pool holds 600,000 gallons of water. By comparison, the 200 foot by 401 foot Sunlite Pool holds over 3 million gallons of water. And the above statement about Sunlite Pool being more than an acre is indeed correct. Given the dimensions of the pool, it has an area of 80,200 square feet. One acre contains 43,560 square feet. So Sunlite Pool occupies 1.84 acres! Browntggrr
My family has access to a pool at anytime. So, unfortunately, the thrill of being in a pool is the "norm". Thanks for thinking of us though!
