Its a shame.

The Facebook aspect of marketing and sharing information has risen in the last couple of years, and many companies are turning towards it to share news.

Excluding some, yes. But look at CP for example, by that whole "500,00 and we will tell you hints about the new ride", they got their fan base to 500,000 at facebook. Now that when CP wishes to announce something or say something, it is going to reach many of that 500,000, which is much more than the fans who read the onpoint. Some people are excluded, but many more are included that would not have checked CP's website for a blog.

That's why they should use Facebook to point people to the blog on their site. Why KI and CP have yet to figure out that the best option is to use social media to point people to their site is beyond me.

You expect that sort of brilliance from the same people who can't figure out why a url like visitkingsisland.com is a problem?

What's the problem? I usually get it right in only 10 minssmile.gif

Interesting note about the domain. I was doing some research to find out who owned the various "kingsisland" domains, and it turns out that Paramount Parks bought kingsisland.us. It's not really any better than visitkingsisland.com though.

It would help if they could make arrangements with the Toronto-based company that owns kingsisland.com to have something pointing people looking for the amusement park to the correct site though.

I guess the Facebook only approach didn't work out as well as thought? Or was a Q involved?

PhantomTheater, who is quite happy to see the blog returned. Can Becca be a good replacement for Tony?

Blog =/= Facebook

The Blog is a great way to play off the curiosity and enthusiasm of, well, enthusiasts. She can be a little "geekier," and go into a little more detail. The folks visiting the blog are going there on purpose, with expectations of what they'll see.

Facebook is a way to reach casual fans, "GP" as we might call them. The park's posts pop up in fan's newsfeed, so they don't necessarily have to be looking for the park's message to see it.

A good New Media strategy uses the company's website, Facebook, Twitter, and sometimes sites like Living Social and Groupon to reach as wide of a base as possible. Each of those sites has their own strengths and weaknesses, and a good communications rep can identify those and play off of them.

I remember CP had a job posting at the end of last season for an entry level marketing representative to handle the park's social media. If this is a new position it would make the blog an easier task for the marketing department to get done.
