The Interpreter
And what better way to top it off than a $5 off coupon? http://www.camdenpar...oupon100110.pdf See also: As daylight wanes and foggy, black nights roll in, the spirits begin to roam the rides and hidden spaces at Camden Park. For the 12th year, West Virginia's only amusement park tricks out its park for Spooktacular that runs 6 to 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night in October. There's also more than 30 rides and attractions including the park's historic dark ride, The Haunted House, tricked out especially for Halloween, there's also a witch's walk-through and the Haunted Train Ride, that's complete with animatronics, special effects, costumed characters and a graveyard full of zombies. Spooktacular prices are $13.99 every Friday and $18.99 every Saturday. Parking is $3 and miniature golf (during regular hours with park admission) is $3.99.... http://www.herald-di...cular-on-Friday
wv_ki_fan
i know its off topic but..i live about 35 mins from Camden Park..that place has all the potential in the world.but in its current state..its a very depressing park..
The Interpreter
Imagine how much more depressing it would be if it was sitting there, closed, forever. It can happen, and has to many parks I loved...from Americana/LeSourdsville Lake to Whalom to Miracle Strip to Geauga Lake to Six Flags Astroworld and on and on and on. Sometimes, you don't know what you got til its gone...other times you can see places going...do what you can to support what you want to last... The Interpreter
The Huntington Herald-Dispatch article has been extensively revised, and now includes a long section on the redo of the Haunted House accomplished this summer. It's really quite amazing, too: http://www.herald-di...th-fresh-scares
Gordon Bombay
i know its off topic but..i live about 35 mins from Camden Park..that place has all the potential in the world.but in its current state..its a very depressing park.. Disagree. From the outside and from online, it doesn't look like much, but two years ago I went to Camden with a good friend when I lived closer to WV for school and it's by far my favorite small park. Coney Islander
I've been really wanting to experience a classic Pretzel or Tracy Dark Ride for quite some time, but until reading this article, had thought these type of Dark Rides were no more. Glad to hear I still have the opportunity to experience the "classic" dark ride! Now... To get down to West Virginia...
The Interpreter
As one of the very first people to ride the 'new' version of Camden Park's classic Haunted House, I can assure you they did a fantastic job with this redo. Mr. Tracy would be very proud. From the article: ..."It's like it's the 1960s all over again," Burnham said by phone, sitting in his garage in his Pretzel car. "I hope that people down there enjoy it. I know I got a kick out of operating it. I felt like I was 5 years old all over again."... Mr. Burnham did an incredible job. It's better today than when it opened... Terp, who is old enough to have ridden Laff In The Dark in that park, and did....
PhantomTheater
I enjoy Camden's Haunted House, and in my opinion it should be classified as a coaster. It has a lift, then is powered by gravity the rest of the way including an uphill section. (PhantomTheater running for the door after opening a can of worms). The Interpreter
I completely and totally agree with you. And the brake run is the employee at the exit's shoes! The ride is, in reality, a small steel mouse. RCDB does not agree with us, but I don't care... If the Underground at Adventureland in Iowa is a wooden coaster (and they say it is), how is the Haunted House at Camden not a steel? http://www.rcdb.com/215.htm?p=20052

PhantomTheater
So they will be collecting parking then?
The Interpreter
If you come the first hour or so, parking WILL be collected. After that, it is pretty much hit or miss. Like many parks, Camden has difficulty staffing the last weekends, and as traffic into the park dies down, the parking collector is often scared up to do other things... Also, for those who go, the Train and the maze in the building fronting US 60 west of Hot Cat are the premier boo attractions. The newly revamped Haunted House is not to be missed. The lower end, which unfortunately includes the Lil Dipper, will NOT be open.
The Interpreter
...Scream like it's 1961 In 1961, Camden Park got a Bill Tracy-designed remake of its Pretzel gravity ride known as The Haunted House. Get some of that old-school shock of the 1960s as Connecticut artist Chuck Burnham has repainted the outside and eight-turn inside. The Haunted House is one of 20 rides and attractions open during Camden Park's Spooktacular that runs 6 to 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in October. The Halloween-themed event features the Haunted Train Ride and the new "Labyrinth de Mort" a special horror filled walk-through maze. Spooktacular prices are $13.99 on Friday and $18.99 on Saturday. KIBeast
Those are some great photos from the herald-dispatch. Still haven't made it there in quite a while. CoastersRZ
Unfortunately, I`ve never made it out to Camden Park. I would love to visit this park someday. Its definitely on my list of parks to visit when vacation time and money permit. Hopefully I can score some new parks since I actually have vacation time now! It also amazing how quickly this season went by! It seemed like just yesterday that Kings Island opened and that I was getting ready for my 9th season at Coney. Now Coney is closed for the year, and there are only two weekends left at KI. Time to switch to winter mode, and other social pre-occupations like dating I suppose until next spring.
