A video adventurer was daring enough to infiltrate this abandoned Six Flags outside New Orleans—derelict since Hurricane Katrina—and record footage. The environs are haunting, to say the least—and we watched with the expectation of some zombie cameos.

The footage is, beyond being the picture perfect backdrop for a post-apocalyptic flick, an eery reminder of the post-storm destruction that has yet to be mended. And some of it won't be—this Six Flags won't ever be salvaged, scheduled for demolition in January of next year.

For the record, this has a tag at the end that it was shot with the permission of the the city of New Orleans. I love the Zombieland reference.

Since Six Flags has no legal interest in the property now, that's very, very unlikely. I also doubt Al Weber and Mr. Reid-Anderson would want to spend that much money on that thing...

That was one of the most eerie and freaky videos I have ever seen. But very cool, nonetheless.

Absolutely breathtaking. An extremely well put-together video that is disturbing, sad, yet almost beautiful in an eerie sort of way.

i adore/disgust by these type of video's. it has shear beauty in what lays in wake of abandonment. it makes one almost want to cry cause of the emotion of what happened.

The six and a half-minute video shot by photographer Teddy Smith, set only to somber music, provides a haunting illustration of the park's unkempt state. Shattered glass from blown out windows and doors still covers the ground. Vandals have covered some walls with graffiti. The park rides, left abandoned since the park shut down, are predictably weathered.

At the end of the video, a word blurb says that the park rides are scheduled to be dismantled and the park demolished in January.

But city spokesman Ryan Berni said that "there is no plan" to demolish the site or to dismantle the equipment. Such an action would require approval from the City Council, said Eric Granderson, chief of staff for council chairman Arnie Fielkow. The council is not entertaining any such proposals, Granderson said.

"We had heard that rumor," Granderson said. "But it isn't true."

I don't think they can be salvaged-they sat in that nasty water for nearly a month, and have not been attended to since. Doesn't take long for the elements to do their damage. Beautiful video-catches the mood of what remains after a disaster-brings back some not so pleasant feelings.

This area would make a good setting for a amusement haunt story.

This video was just posted a few weeks ago. I know some of you may be like "we've seen photos of SFNO before", but not like this....

These photos are from 2005, right after the flood waters receded enough to for Six employees to come and evaluate the park.

Heartbreaking! It's hard to believe even after all of these years, that one day a park was operating and the next it'd never see the rides running again.

No matter how much a person hates or loves a theme park‚ no matter how big or small the park is‚ no matter the company running it‚ it doesn't even matter if your a theme park lover or not‚ but seeing any theme park close down (unless the park was trying to kill you‚ which is a whole new issue) for almost any reason is sad.

I never had a chance to go to LeSourdsville Lake Amusement Park and it saddened me severely when I heard it was getting closed down. (This was before I loved theme parks).

Watching these videos are some of the saddest things to watch. I keep thinking‚ what was the reason the theme park closed? What if this is the only theme park in the area for people? Will this land be reused as another theme park? What will happen to all the rides? I could go on and on...

To put this into prospective for some people‚ imagine if KI closed up it's doors tomorrow and no company wanted the park‚ so it just sits their to rot...

To all struggling theme parks out their‚ I wish you the best and hope you can make it though!

And now for a different perspective.

It was a park.

Thousands and thousands lost their homes, their possessions and many, many died or lost loved ones. Lives were disrupted. Communities were devastated.

It was a park. Parks can be rebuilt.

As much as I love the park industry, and feel for those who worked and played there, in the grand scheme of things it was a relatively insignificant loss.

SFNO still lives on. It has been used as a location for several movies. These movies include the latest Percy Jackson and the upcoming Planet of the Apes. The park is being leased well in to 2014 for other projects.

Much like KK, Six was sure to remove anything and everything of value from the park. Some stuff years after the Hurricane.

As well they should have. The removed items were, after all, their property.

Ugh...seeing that S&S tower just sitting there...that sucks man, but terp is right, lives and more important things were lost...

The S&S Tower was removed from the park in 2008 and reinstalled at Great Escape in New York.
