WildCat at CP Crashed! (again)

Featured Replies

I find wildcat to be more fun to ride than cedar creek mine ride and gemini combined.

edit: this was a response to a post that is no longer here.

Some of enjoy the Kitty, including a certain member on these boards (not me) who is the Kitty's #1 fan.

I hope Wildcat reopens soon! I loved that ride!

Sure, it's a relic of a bygone era, but the WildCat delivers some intense drops and sensation of extreme speed, without imposing height or inversions. It's a perfect mid-level coaster.

I grew up riding Wildcat.. I'd hate to see that go. Glad everyone is OK though.

I'll admit Wildcat fills a good niche at CP, but it's not my favorite Schwartzkopf. I'm much more interested by Tig'rr at Indiana Beach. Still, if Wildcat was removed, I'd probably miss it. What is up with the ride's brakes, though? Two brake-related accidents in three years!

The last accident happened when the lift chain broke and the anti-rollbacks didn't function as they were supposed to, not a true brake issue like this incident. B)

For me Wildcat fills a void left my the removal of Bavarian Beetle at KI.

The good thing here is that although seven people were injured, those injuries were not serious.

I hope it reopens within the next couple of weeks, as I'm heading up to the Point the week of the 20th.

As fast as WildCat comes into the station, i am not that shocked. But glad everyone is ok.

Wild Cat reopend at noon today acording to that link in the first post!

I rode it this past Friday night with coaster friends and we were amazed at how well and smooth our ride was, especially knowing the age of the coaster. If the state of Ohio says it is OK and knowing Cedar Fairs safety policy I will not hesitate in getting on wildcat again on my next visit to Cedar Point.

^ Same here! Recently rode it for the first time since I was a teen and loved it.

Thye keep saying that this ride opened in 1970. A Wildcat ride did open in 1970, but it was replaced in 1979 by the current one. I would like to know why this happened - I didn't think the other ride was falling apart or rusting. (by the by - the current ride is exactly the same as the ond one)

Just got off of it and its running fine now..

They sent the old one to Valleyfair, instead of giving them the new one. However CP still officially claims wildcat was open in 1970.

The kitty was first located where Oceana is, then moved to where DT stands before moving to the million dollar midway in 1985

Cedar Point told the U.S. Department of Agriculture — which regulates amusement rides — about what happened, said Erica Pitchford, a USDA spokeswoman.

Huh? Since when does the U.S. Department of Agriculture regulate rides? And when did Erica Pitchford become a USDA spokeswoman? According to a press release from the Ohio Department of Agriculture from January 13th (http://www.agri.ohio.gov/public_docs/news/2011/01-13-11%20New%20Appointments.pdf), she's their spokeswoman!

Nice reporting/fact checking/proofreading, Sandusky Register!
