If you could replace a ride what would it be?

I think this would be a fun topic to talk about what rides should be replaced to make new attractions.

-I would replace Viking Fury with a B&M inverted coaster.

-The area behind Surf Dog would be a good place for a family coaster, taking out the rides in its way or moving them.

-To me Congo Falls doesn't fit in with the other high thrill rides around it so removing that and putting a Skyhawk like at CP.

NOOOOO!!!! Not my beloved Congo Falls!

That said, I feel it would be better to move Congo Falls over to Rivertown and find a place for it somewhere near Diamondback, if for no other reason than to put all of the water rides close to each other.

As to other changes I would make:

—Tear down Son of Beast and Thunder Alley.

—Move Backlot Stunt Coaster to where Thunder Alley currently sits, as its theme (being a Hollywood stunt driver) better fits in Action Zone, which my understanding was that it was supposed to be a "movie backlot" (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

—Bring back the antique cars where they used to be (i.e. where BLSC currently sits)

—Put in a couple of decent go-kart tracks where SOB currently sits (something along the general lines of what Cedar Point has would be nice)

—To make up for the loss of SOB, add a relatively small but high-thrill coaster (something along the lines of Maverick) in the gap between Adventure Express, Flight of Fear, and The Racer.

LOL I love how people think it's practical to be moving rides around. Do you have any idea what moving Congo Falls or BLSC would involve?

Do you have any idea that this is just for fun... and yes I do know what it would involve.

1. Tear down Crypt and put Congo Falls in its place.

1a. Replace Congo Falls with a Screamin' Swing (one large enough to not be extra charge)

2. Build a new water ride that interacts in some way with WWC.

3. Tear down Thunder Alley and SoB.

3a. Move BLSC to where Thunder Alley was; this has been mentioned multiple times on these forums.

3aI. Bring back the antique cars, and probably make them run on electricity versus gasoline.

3b. Replace SoB with a new area (possibly more than one) that connects AZ with X-Base. If CGA closes a lot of its rides could be sent to KI (although there would have to be a limit to how many coasters as the other parks should get a chance; also Survivor will never come to KI for obvious reasons).

...That's all I have right now.

What is the sense in removing a very fun, unique, and one of the best themed rides that sits in such a great setting when the coaster could be put almost anywhere (don't think that the lake setting would transfer to a new attraction)? Some people, one I know for certain, actually prefers Viking Fury over the one B&M the park already has.

Well I don't really like that ride to begin with and... best themed... haha that's funny. A lake setting would be perfect for an invert!! Putting the ride anywhere is not the point of this thread it is remove a ride put one in its place. So the person you know would probably want Viking Fury 2 in place of DB... LAME!!

Replace the 3 Point Challenge with a Flying Scooters ride. And one question, how would a B&M Invert fit where Viking's Fury is? I don't even think a compact SLC would fit there.

Well obviously it would not go exactly in the same spot it would have to go over the path and maybe change around that area to make it fit. Look at DB before we knew for sure it was a coaster everyone said it was going to be a flat. Its shocking to see what ideas KI can come up with.

Ahem. I am part of everyone. *I* never said it would be a flat.

Just like I've never ever publicly or privately compared Diamondback to Nitro. Or said what will happen to Son of.....(signal lost)

HAHA! I remember back in the early stages of the new ride for 2009 a lot of people said it was going to be a big gorilla type flat or a willy wonka elevator ride. I just love how people come up with these crazy rides.

...I think Adventure Express ... (seats are tiny). ...

Strange, I find the seats to be bigger than most, actually.

As per topic, I'd probably

-Take out Thunder Alley and replace it with BLSC. It looks like it might just fit as it is.

-Replace BLSC with more nostalgic rides on the Coney side, and more water/tame rides on the Rivertown side.

-Take out BBoBH and put Phantom Theater back in.

-Take out Urgent Scare and put in an actual movie in 3/4D.

I would definitely tear down SOB since it's no longer used & I think Adventure Express would also be good to go (seats are tiny). I don't know what those should be replaced with. But I do think that some more should be added to Boomerang Bay. biggrin.gif

AE has some of the largest seats in the park...and it is one of the highest capacity rides in the park.

I would replace The Beast with a good wooden coaster.

Did you turn the heat up enough before you started stirring? :)

For me, I'm not going to answer this question because I don't really like seeing any ride removed. Even the ones I'm not a fan of are a favorite for somebody else or are deeply missed by many when they are gone.

I would remove The Crypt, and either install an indoor spinning mouse in that building, or tear down the whole building and put a Maverick like coaster in that spot.

A spinning mouse? And I thought American Country in the Festhaus was a strange idea for a show...

But really, a 700 pph capacity ride next to the parks two most famous? Isn't that exactly where we are now? And no matter how well you would theme such a wild mouse, wouldn't we end up with another Dark Knight? It would almost certainly be a "5" on Cedar Fair's thrill rating system, and as highly marketed as Dark Knight if not moreso. I just think that if the park gets a new ride, it needs to have a worthwhile capacity.

This isn't related to the topic but speaking of The Crypt didn't it open for the parks 30 anniversary... I am not sure but I was just trying to think when it opened and if it would be reasonable to take the ride out. Probably not since its only been around for 9 years (I think) not sure. I don't see them putting a roller coaster in the building because they have a similar scenario with FOF.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I think it has little to do with the age of the ride. Yes, it's quite "new," and was arguably a star attraction of the park just eight seasons ago and even for a few years thereafter. Sometimes, "new" rides (especially prototypes!) just don't work out. I think one could argue that The Crypt "isn't working out" in the same way that The Bat or Hypersonic XLC or Son of Beast didn't. Sometimes the cost (both financially and socially) of keeping a ride operating do not outweigh the benefits.

As for the park placing a roller coaster in the building, I think it goes far beyond the idea that Flight of Fear already uses that idea (indeed, look at Disneyland's Fantasyland... How many four person, cart-driven, blacklight dark rides?). Moreso, it may be structural things... What is the building coded for? Where are the concrete footings at, and where would new ones need to be placed? Fire exits and staircases and wiring and... I think it'd be a long and confusing process to alter a building's codes, but I don't know for sure. I imagine that if the floor needed to be completely drilled out for new footings and the wall had to be removed to facilitate the removal of the TopSpin and the roof needed removed to lift in the coaster track and new doors and staircases needed to be added for evacuation and new levels introduced for maintenance and the building needed enlarged or widened... Pretty soon, isn't it easier to build something from scratch?
