shadow2k3
As a longtime fan, I am shocked and sad about this news. To be honest, his tour can wait. He should take some time to recooperate from the losses and start back up when he's recovered from the loss. My condolences and prayers go out to Al. ~S~
PKI Homey
Yeah, I've heard that the show must go on crap before, but I think some shows could have been cancelled under the circumstances. Anyone who would choose to put on a show instead of grieving the loss of their parents is a fool.
MommaBeast
I know this isnt Really PKI related but I know a lot of you Like Weird Al But his Parents were found Dead in there home due to Carbon monoxide poisoning just wanted to let you all know the sad news very sad How very sad! I had an 'up close and personal' incident with Weird Al about 20 years ago at one of Indianapolis' greatest clubs: Picadilly's. NO...it wasn't that kind of up close and personal , but rather of the 'mundane' kind. He was performing at Picadilly's and left the stage to go into the crowd. Hundreds of us were standing on chairs hootin' and hollerin' and havin' a good ol' time. All of a sudden, the spotlight was on me and I couldn't figure out why! It was because Weird Al was by my side singing his version of Madonna's 'Like a Virgin!' Funny...but maybe you had to be there to appreciate the comedy of the moment. Very said to hear about his parents.....very sad indeed.
Mrs. G.
Re: Anyone who would choose to put on a show instead of grieving the loss of their parents is a fool. What a hurtful comment. I don't know if you've suffered the loss of a parent. I lost my father at age 19, suddenly, unexpectedly. There is nothing you can do - but hurt. If you sit and dwell it hurts more. Most parents (myself included) would not want our children to put all aspects of life on hold to grieve. Grief is a personal thing we handle individually. There is no one-size-fits-all. I had the pleasure of meeting Weird Al last year and he is a wonderful, genuine human being and by all accounts his parents were proud of him and close to him. He is the only one who knows what their wishes would have been and it's not our place to judge. He "chose" not to disappoint his fans in this instance, and whatever he further chooses to do in his grief the very least he deserves is respect. PKI Homey
I'm just saying that grieving your parents is far more important than making the fans happy. Yeah, people grieve in different ways, but I don't think that is one of them. I personally like Weird Al. I grew up with the guy on MTV. It just seems strange that he did not cancel any shows. Two years ago, I went to Ozzfest to see mainly Ozzy Osborne and his wife was having a cancer operation. Needless to say, Ozzy cancelled three shows to be with his wife. He did not feel that he show must go on in spite of his wife's operation. To me, that is more suitable than going on regardless.
derbeast
He made a decision to go on with his shows... if you are that big of a fan then you should respect his decision.
shadow2k3
Al's Official Message on the website. Some people cope with losses differently. Ozzy may have cancelled a few shows to be with Sharon, but that's Ozzy. Al is greiving, no doubt about it. But he is trying to keep himself in a decent enough mental condition to keep himself functional. Many people have wondered what’s going to happen with the tour. I briefly considered canceling some shows, but I ultimately decided that it would be better for me personally to continue working. Plus, I’ve heard from so many people over the years that my music has cheered them up in times of tragedy… well, I thought maybe my music would help me too. So far, it has. Going up on stage in front of thousands of supportive fans is a cathartic and somewhat therapeutic experience for me right now. I don’t know if I can say that the concerts really take my mind off of the tragedy, but at least they give me a break from sobbing all the time. As you can plainly see, he's just trying to cope with the loss. The fanbase that he has is very supportive of him and feel almost exactly the way he does. If any of you can recall the John Lennon disaster, his fans greived and mourned through his death, and tried to comfort Yoko. The Yankovic community is the same way. We're like a family, a close one at that. He's doing what he feels that's best for him and his family. He's not shunning his parents.. far from it. He owes a lot of credit to his parents, and they probably would have wanted him to keep going. They were very proud of him and supported him throughout the years. If he feels that continuing the tour would be best for him and his family, so be it. You don't control his life, he can make his own decisions. Thank you. ~S~

Euclid Beast
Wow this is really sad... My first and only encounter with Weird Al was with high school buddies back in 86 in the 3rd row at KI TimberWolf for the previously stated "Like a Virgin" Tour... or was that the "Thriller" tour - I can't recall... Grew up on Price's Mountain, but now I live in Euclid less than a football field away from the Polka Hall of Fame--this is the first I've heard of this tragedy... This will be serious around here - Our neighborhood church is filled with people with last names like Yankovic, and This-ovic and That-ovic --- we still have the Polka Mass under the outdoor tent every summer.... I think some of the old guys in the choir were buddies with the old Yankovic band guys... They sure know how to Polka... Frankie Yankovic's autographed band pictures are in every bakery and barber shop from E. 55th to E. 350th Street... Sad......
