Kings Island opens Saturday the 28th.

The April 30th on the main page is from last year. You probably missed it, but this topic http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24830 discusses the need to update the site, and the problems involved in doing so.

Keep in mind (as has been the case the past few years) the park is closed for a private event on April 29

...which may be one of the reasons the park was so busy last opening day. For most, if you are coming opening weekend, Saturday's your only chance.

Didn't Kings Island used to open near the beginning of April back in the day? Does anyone know why the opening has been pushed so far back? Was the park pretty much dead during those earlier April openings?

Kings Island used to open about a week earlier than it did last year. I'm not sure why it was changed though.

Kings Island actually did used to routinely open the first weekend in April. I remember the weather often being pretty lousy especially opening weekend in 2002 when Tombraider opened. I assume that the opening has been moved back because of the unreliability of the weather in early April-you certainly can't justify the expense of opening the park when the weather is lousy.

My theory is that when KI is building rides they were not going to make the deadline, so they just slipped opening day a week or so back for construction and reliability, which they are known for
