Number 2 In Waterparks or Pools Is Not A Good Thing

Featured Replies

Somehow I knew this wasn't going to be about the economic impact of being rated second among water parks. Somehow.

One of the main reasons for my dislike of waterparks and pools. Too many nasty folks out there that do not wipe properly.

How many do think heed the warnings to stay out when sick or experience the day after a meal at Taco Bell?

How many take a shower BEFORE entering?

I think it's safe to say those using their cars or park benches and whatnot as lockers are not.

So, the parasite has a shell that protects it from chlorine? I guess it's too impractical (or dangerous) to employ ultraviolet light; or to add 'boiling and re-cooling' to the filtration process. Sheesh! (and I use that exclamation lightly!) ;)

Gross. I haven't been in a waterpark for years. I'm not a fan of going to the park on hot humid days for the same reason-sweat covered coaster seat, yuk!!

The problem isn't so much from people blatantly pooping in the pool as it is poor hygiene. Doesn't matter how well one wipes, if you have the squirts, germs are left behind. Hop into a warm pool with those germs on your cheeks and they get their very own amusement park.

To be honest, on my one visit last year, I got out of the water because a woman started taking off her bandaids in the very shallow of the wave pool, and the pus from her wounds was flowing into the water.

Just do us all a favor, KI, rename Soak City "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" and put some honesty in that advertising.

Remember the scene from Caddy Shack when Bill Murray grabbed the "item" from the pool and it was only a Baby Ruth bar? Then he ate it and the older "better than thee" lady fainted?

Yes, I saw a band-aid floating in the new wave pool this year on my one trip to SS. Preeeeeetty nasty.

Effusive body juices where I'm going to swim is one of the reasons I stay on the dry side, now.

^ Which can be actually worse.

If the people paying to be entertained at KI do not use proper personal hygiene, imagine those who frequent sites that are free, and additionally, wild animals that do not have opposable thumbs that "go" wherever they want. You also may want to investigate if those destinations test for ecoli and other like bacteria.

Also, be wary of those areas after a good rainfall. You would be amazed what rainwater washes away and where it ends up.

Honestly, many of these "outbreak" articles do scare people from enjoying themselves at a pool/ lake etc. due to the "drama" they cause. Think about the amount of people that enjoy these activities Worldwide vs. how many actually get sick. The percentage is rather low because you actually need the "perfect storm" scenario to get sick.

^ Exactly. There is no way to tell how many people, or if any on a given day, are actually getting sick from these dramatic claims.

I stopped visiting the wave pool years ago, when I saw more than one couple in the pool, who were in the most direct need of, well, obtaining a more private form of hospitality services.

Ah, there's nothing more refreshing on a hot summer's day,

than a swim in the park's Tidal Wave Bay!

Because nothing compares to being in a lukewarm soup,

of worn-off band-aids and icky guest poop.
