Racer

Featured Replies

Some people are saying that Racer is being torn down to make a new ride. I don't believe it for a second and I'd like to know your feedback

Um that is obviusly a lie. The Racer is a ACE coaster landmark and its one of the parks original atractions

Well, I know another wooden coaster that should be torn down, and should be replaced with a new ride.....

Post #3 and we're at SOB - a new record!

You beat me to it............

Anyways this was told by the dippin dots guy I guess. Obviously the possibility of that is less than the possibility of BB returning at any time, or better yet the Crypt.......

Cruel... I had a dream The Crypt returned, but it was a swinging ship...

No way. It will probably be gone someday, but anytime soon. Look at Jack Rabbit at Kennywood - wasn't that built in 1921?!

1920....

Terp, trying to help.

I'm not really sure why I said 1921...also look at Thunderbolt, which is also pretty old. Am I forgetting any others?

Zippin Pippin is now Thunderbolt.

Just an aside about Jack Rabbit.....

I got on the ride not knowing a thing about it. Thought it was no big deal, but a fun coaster to be on because of its age - but then came that double down and wow! The people on the train got quiet - I guess they weren't expecting it either. I started to wonder if that's the kind of quiet train that happened when the wood gave way on SOB?

No way on The Racer, many years to go, look at Cedar Points wooden coaster how old it is.

Racer will be around!

Zippin Pippin is now Thunderbolt....

Nope. Pippin was remodeled extensively and became Thunderbolt.

Zippin Pippin was in Memphis but has been lovingly re-created at Bay Beach in Wisconsin.

Both were originally John Miller coasters.

I think it would be kinda cool to have a ride like Berserker at Kings Dominion only as an indoor ride ;)

I rode the KD version many years ago. Then, a few years back, I stupidly rode it again. That's enough for me in this life, and I'm a Zipper, Rock-O-Plane and Rings of Fire fan.

Blue streak is only 8 years older than racer.

ACE coaster landmark means nothing, heck the Breakers were a National Historic Landmark until Cedar Point replaced most of it.

No matter how sentimental/historic a coaster is, if the maintenance costs or low ridership outweigh the profit, it will go. In The Racer's case I think the teeter totter will have to be embedded into the ground before they remove it.

I can't see Racers going anywhere. There's not too much you could do with that area, I'm thinking.

Racer is just too classic. It's structurally sound and runs well. No reason to even think of removing it.
