So I've been to KI dozens of time and have never lost a pair of glasses. But Earlier this week, I broke my only pair and with the fix I used I am concerned that a KI trip prior to replacing them may cause a lens to come out. Basically, they're the kind where you have half of a frame, with the bottom supported by a nylon thread-like thing. In short, they broke and I'm currently holding the lenses in with a bit of fishing line. They're mostly stable, but the lenses wobble in place a little. It takes a lot of pushing to get it loose, and I've never gotten one to come out with any reasonable amount of force. Basically, my question is, would the G-forces of a coaster be likely to exert any more force on these than a firm push with my fingers does? I can't replace them for a couple weeks, but I don't want to be riding blind that whole time if I can avoid it.

So basically, my question is, do you think any of the coasters at KI might run a risk of me losing a lens (besides Firehawk, which I never ride with my glasses period, for risk of losing the whole thing).

I'm not sure I would chance losing a lens on any of the rides, but I used to work in the optical field, and that's something that we could fix quickly and for free. If you are able to get to the place where you got the glasses, I bet they could fix you up.

I had a pair like that in the early eighties. While motorcycling, one dropped out (we turned around and got it), and I replaced it pretty much the same way. On The Beast, I felt a little 'bip' on my cheek, and kissed that lens goodbye.

Ogrmac has a good idea to get them properly fixed first, and not trust to fate like I did.

I just had to share this, He loses his glasses on the ride. Can yopu find where? I did! (Some moments I noticed) At 0:05 you can see his glasses clipped to his shirt. If you stop it at 0:46 his face is hilarious. and at 0:48 you can see the solar eclipse i belive.

That poor guy! Glasses are so expensive these days.

The "solar eclipse" in the above [illegally recorded, but oh, so fun to watch] video is actually 'capacitor-array bias'. The sun is too bright, so the camera's sensors assign neutral pixellation to the affected region because it overloads against built-in threshholds. A laser pointed at a digital camera will do the same thing.

@homestar92 - My safest bet would be to attach a lanyard, or get a hard case and stow it in a cargo pocket or waist pack. You get a lot of wind in the face on KI's major coasters; even the ones in Planet Snoopy, so you'll want to use discression.

It may leave you, like random dimes flying at you from The Vortex heart, its FUN.

Actually, loose change on Vortex rarely flies out. My friend and I did a test, where we put nickels, dimes, quarters and pennies, all on the bottom of The Vortex car. Not a one fell out.

No, I don't have contacts. I have an old pair that's very close to the same prescription, but I don't like to use them (becasue close to the same prescription is not the same and can still cause a headache.) I keep them in my car in case I lose my main pair somewhere and need to drive home.

I know this happened when i was at dc with my school and luckily we were going to this mall for lunch and souvenirs so i just went to lenscrafters and in like 10 minuets they fixed them for free.

I hope this isn't a new policy. As of last year, there were several rides on which glasses must be removed if not secured with a tight strap, but none on which they could not be worn at all.

I guess those unbanked turns are bad for hats. My girlfriend's brother and my best friend have both lost hats on AE as well.

I don't want to ride without glasses. I feel safer with my goggles on. I don't feel the desire to have to wear the headline about that poor guy that lost his sight on the Double Dragon as a custom shirt.

The rides are much better when you get that great clear view of the bottom of the drop, plus, I don't squint my eyes against the wind, and get to enjoy the woods when I ride The Beast.

I've never had a problem with my glasses on coasters at KI, but I have yet to ride Diamondback, Flight of Fear or Firehawk. On the other hand, my daughter's glasses flew out of my pocket on Beast and finished the ride on the floor of the car. So much for securing loose items....

I woudl actually say that I don't wear my glasses on Firehawk, Diamondback, The Beast, and Invertigo. Mine are tight but they can fall really easily they don't fall off on FOF.

Agree! They even sell fairly reasonably-priced ones at the DB store.
