whats next for wooden coasters

Since out law run is going to have an inversion(s) does this mean that this will become a new trend in the coaster world? It sure wasn't after SOB was built. Or are wooden coasters going to be hybrids in the future?

I hope inversions aren't a new trend in woodne coasters. I just dont think they belong there and it ruins the feeling of the ride.

I think hybrids with inversions (which is what I consider Outlaw Run, etc. to be, though that's for a different discussion) are going to take off, as their popularity seems to be increasing. New Texas Giant, though inversionless, seems to be a huge hit, and the RMC's for 2013 look to continue the trend.

As far as traditional wooden coasters go, the trend over the past decade and a half seems to be delivering intense rides with low maintenance costs/reducing maintenance costs on present installations without significantly altering the ride experience. That's why we've seen trains with several single-bench cars (i.e. Millennium Flyers and Timberliners) make their appearance, as well as the creation of Intamin's prefabricated wooden coaster track. I couldn't guess what the next step will be in that direction, but with the way things are going, it should be quite impressive.

I would like to see more terrain wooden coasters like The Beast, not more inversion on a wooden coaster.

I would like to see more old-school wooden coasters. I enjoy those more than steel coasters.

If I am not mistaken isn't there going to be another coaster with inversions that is wooden as well? Besides Outlaw Run?

You are thinking of Iron Rattler, which is Rattler's refurbishing, similar to the Texas Giant/New Texas Giant transformation. It will have a zero-g roll.

It's too bad SOB is being completely removed. Maybe the future will bring us a Gravity group roller coaster like Voyage only with a loop. That to me was the cool part of SOB! The rest of it hurt like hell!
