Guest theataris Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 Delirium, or delerium if you prefer, was not assembled for a long time in Germany, so the weather would have little to no effect on their tests. However, sitting outside for all of next winter and all of the subsequent winters will be a real test for Huss about how their rides will stand up. The Jump 2 at PCW will get an even worse test. Its the worst possible thing you can do to it, save for running it into a tree. I doubt that Delirium stood for any more then a week, time is not on their side with a new ride, they'd much rather get the thing over here to its permanant place. I'm sure the temporary footers they built it on over there can only take so much stress, so many runs, and as such, the ride didn't stand for more than probably a week. Quote

Just an electrical one which cold doesn't really affect cause you don't have pistons running up and down, metal scraping against metal at high rpms. Its completely different things. Quote

Everything has an operational temperature range. While I do think the ride will open on time, I doub't we will see it swinging with a temperature below say 40 degrees or so. Quote

Sears sucks, i spend way too much time in there for it to be healthy, but anyway. I think if they had it ready to go, it could operate today. Except it probably doesnt like snow. Electric motors aren't as temperature sensitive as an internal combustion engine, but you know how it goes... If its 30 degrees on pass night, you probably won't see it running. why do i always contradict myself at least once in every post? i feel like a freaking moron sometimes. if only you guys could read my mind. then you would understand. fyrfyter Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 I think when it comes to rides and operating temperature ranges, it not so much the motors that have a problem, because electric motors should run better when it is colder out, because they won't overheat. I think it is more of an expansion contraction thing with the metal the ride is made of. I don't know the exact amount a ride contracts and expands, but like eeverything else on the face of the earth, warm items expand while colder items shrink (I feel like a science teacher!). I think these expansions are why the rides are given operating temperature ranges. Quote

I was hoping for more from Mr. Siebert on the PKI website but so far nothing. I'm sure we will see some new stuff here soon, give it time. Edit- Sorry the only thing new from the outside is that you can see the bright yellow insulation panels for Scooby Doo's new castle entrance. Drove past the park today and it is definetly noticable through the trees from the street. Quote

What I mean is that, there is going to be this gigantic, huge, rather ominous looking castle, with a drawbridge and maybe a moat, nearby, that will "draw" people towards it. Look at AZ, with all the big rides, it always has the most people, in one area, and I think the tall castle will have the same effect in HBL. Quote
