My Cedar Point/Kings Island Vacation

Im flying out of Tampa today, will be in Dayton by 6, and twelve hours later will be enroute to Sandusky. Then I'll be doing KI for the 4th.

Instead of waiting until the whole trip is over with, I thought I'd post as I go along.

REALLY looking forward to Cedar Point. My 9 yo son has never been, and it's been 20 years for me. Have to say that I'm a little concerned though. The attitude that I get from the Point fb page is that I shouldn't be expecting all of the rides to be running on the day I visit. Almost like, unless I spend 3 days there, it would be naive of me to assume Id get to ride everything, because of maintenance issues. I know all parks have to deal with this. Heck, Sheikra was down for two months earlier this year for a paint job and maintenance. However,BG is open 365 so when are they gonna do it?

So we'll see how it goes. Thinking positive, ready to ride! ( cue the Chariots of Fire theme song as my son and I make a mad dash for the front gate )

While any ride can go down at anytime for any reason, a majority of CP's 2013 ride issues have been weather related with below average temps & near double rainfall.

Those on FB tend to over dramatize everything then blame the park for everything. Rest assured, the powers at CP want every ride operating every minute the park is open but they cannot control the weather.

Yeah, weather has definitely been a major detriment to the park this year. Mother Nature just hasn't been cooperating all too much. But enjoy your visist, and both you and your son will love the park. Unless you get Fast Lane Plus, which I'd recommend since you're coming from far away, you probably won't be able to get on everything. Be sure to start at the back of the park first (Maverick) and work your way up. At the start of the day Raptor and Gatekeeper are mobbed, but the lines go down as the day progresses.

It's similar to a mayfly. They're harmless but are so annoying, especially in the evening and at night. You just see clouds of little black flying things. And whatever you do, DO NOT wear a white shirt if you don't want bug guts all over it after a night ride on a coaster, and try to keep your mouth shut or at least cover your mouth with your hands when you ride. Sometimes muffleheads (I call them Midges) can get really bad, but don't let them bother you. My family actually finds it fun to protect ourselves from them while riding, and so do other guests. If we're wearing hoodies, sometimes we've pulled the strings tightly so the hood is covering our faces. It's pretty funny hearing other peoples' reactions to it, but it usually works pretty well! One of the best things is watching returning trains especially on Millennium and Dragster and seeing looks of disgust on all the riders, mainly those in the front row. Everyone then starts brushing themselves off and picking midges off them. And sometimes you can't even read the lettering on the front of the trains due to so many splats.

And if you do find yourself face-to-face with midges (haha see what I did there?), always remember it's never a bad thing to get a little extra protein in your diet. :)
