The winner of each round wins passes to Banshee Media Day and advances to the finals held on October 26 for the chance to win a trip for two to Los Angeles which includes tickets to Knott's Berry Farm

Do you want someone from a Death Metal band or a Hardcore band? There is a huge difference.

The answer is neither, someone from a Black Metal band would be more fitting.

I'm going to give it a shot. Why not! My family always tells me I'm loud and can wake the dead. Ill let you all know when I decide which Friday I go.

No way.

Geddy Lee.

I guess you have never listened to Black Metal before. Geddy can actually sing while Black Metal vocals are normally unintelligible high pitched shrieks and screams that are more akin to a Banshee than an actual singer.

Death Metal is growls and Hard Core is shouted/barked.

I suggest someone trying to perfect the Blixa scream.

It starts at about 1:37.

^^I have a feeling Thrill Biscuit is going to have to comment on that. :)

On the subject of the Banshee screaming contest... At least one poster here can say that he participated last Friday. It was moved to the KI Theater because of the weather, and he got to see behind the scenes of that stage because of his participation. He didn't win, but they do give you a free t-shirt for participating.

Not that that poster was me, of course. I'd never do that...

[in raspy whisper:] Where'd I put those throat lozenges...

And.... he looks like one, too.

But I'm still mad about the boy. He can probably give the ride statistics While Banshee-ing. If that's a word.

AUGH! It already happened? I thought it was the 27th and 28th! :(:(

It's every Friday during Haunt. You've got five more nights to give it a shot! :)

The park shared a picture of tonight's contest via Twitter:

A strong field of competitors tonight for the "Scream Like A Banshee" contest at Haunt.

My question: since this is a competition to find the loudest scream, why is that microphone needed?

They connect the microphone to a program that measures sound volume. The winner is actually determined by the biggest numerical volume, not just by whoever subjectively "seems" the loudest. The winner last Friday was somewhere around 130-133 decibels.

Why is the microphone so low???? Are the Half Pint Brawlers in the house tonight?

If I had to guess, I'd guess it's due to the phenomena in digital recording known as "Clipping".

Let's not get me on a digital vs. analog tirade though.

From reading the official rules, I figured that they were using an actual decibel meter for judging. Taking the volume from a vocal mic is going to be less accurate. (Not that it really matters.)

Clipping applies to analog as well. The mic has a maximum response, which doesn't depend on whether you use an analog or digital recording system to measure it.

I could probably get ten decibels if I got on stage, turned around and let one rip.....wonder if they would accept that as a scream....LOL

If I won the competition I wouldn't even go to Knotts! I'd spend my time there at Disney!
