CP&LERR Fan
As soon as I saw Fire at Kings Island on my FaceBook News feed I immediately rushed to KIC to see what happened. Hope every one is Ok.
Creed Bratton
It's not like the ride only has 2 trains. When one is in the station, one is in the bowl and one is at the unload station, if they are using 3 train op. If they didn't have the unload station, they wouldn't let people load the train until those leaving the ride were out of the station still creating more time. I get what you're saying but in the case of Flight of Fear there are such things as blocks, as are needed on on roller coasters. There has to be an open block in front of the train to be able to progress forward. Removing the unload station, you'd be down 5 block breaks. You'd have one in the station, one in the middle of the first loop, one at the block brakes to the trim brakes (midcourse), trim breaks to the ready breaks into the main station. When you go down to 5 sections, there's going to be always one train stopped to wait for the next block to open, which results in waiting provided a 3 train op. The Interpreter
Flight of Fear now runs only two trains.
PKIVortex
So WCPO is saying the ride reopened today after the state reinspected the ride, is this true?
thedevariouseffect
They cannot run more than two trains efficiently unfortunately. With updated system and lack of radar for launch now (I believe it was dropped) it could but you'll never see it happen again
BoddaH1994
So WCPO is saying the ride reopened today after the state reinspected the ride, is this true? It's open. I just rode it.

Existential
Alright...one more...My favorite comedian: I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, 'You're gonna have to move, you're blocking a fire exit.' As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammable and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit. -MITCH HEDBERG [RIP}
thoe124
Rode it yesterday. Smelled like smoke. Ride ops dont want you to know that there was an emergency... (me:" Wasnt there a smoking motor yesterday?" Op:" What are you talking about? Youre completly safe.")
thedevariouseffect
They may have not been there when the incident happened, so they may actually be clueless..
APE
Let's be honest here with the media coverage the incident got along with the way people gossip especially in work places there's almost no way to not know what happened to the ride you work on. Why ask the question to yhe worker when you already know the answer?
thoe124
^^All the ride ops from last time i was there were there and they all said the same things when i asked. Edit: And i love how the media went from 0 to 60 and then back down to 2. -Flight of Fear roller coaster is on FIRE -Flight of Fear roller coaster MIGHT BE ON FIRE -Flight of Fear roller coaster is NOT on fire but is SMOKING A LOT -Flight of Fear roller coaster had a motor that OVERHEATED and was SMOKING A LOT! -Flight of Fear roller coaster had a motor that overheated and is smoking a little. Riders were treated on scene, but nobody was hurt. Ugh. Media. But wouldn't this be a good time to replace ALL of the LIMs? If one failed, they might all be that old and need replacing. 0_o

thedevariouseffect
No you can be completely oblivious to them..not all ride ops are in tune with the ride, some just consider it a job and that's it. Plus honestly, evacs happen, it's just another part of the job, it really isn't a big deal to us. FOF has already had evacs and shutdowns this season. It's not something you go into work the next day and go flipping out over..A motor made smoke, the e-stopped, evaced, and shutdown, end of story. Wasn't really as crazy as some and the media made it out to be.

I'm sure the park feels differently than me, but if some people decide not to ride because of this and as a result the lines get shorter, then I can't say I'm too upset about what happened (assuming those who were exposed to the smoke haven't been having any problems). BoddaH1994
Ask any ride op why a ride is/was down: "I don't know." It's what they're trained to say, and probably the right thing to say.
APE
They should mess with people. Why was the ride down? "Oo some lady lost her head, they got it put back on though and the ride is perfectly safe. "
thedevariouseffect
Actually no..I had an employee do that, got counseled next morning. But yes..many a time we know why a ride is down, we just can't say why, unless it's something we control. Like we're down to transfer off a train, we will be back up when that's done, etc.
Gabe
At Disney, we were trained to say that the ride is currently closed and we aren't sure when it will reopen. The only other question we could answer was that yes, if you had a Fastpass for the time a ride is down, it will be honored anytime that day after (and if) the ride reopens.
The Interpreter
They should mess with people. Why was the ride down? "Oo some lady lost her head, they got it put back on though and the ride is perfectly safe. " "intentional infliction of emotional distress." Thence came the lawsuit. Not smart. At all.
APE
Eh people should learn not to be so sensitive when that's clearly a joke if said.
The Interpreter
Good luck with that. Employers engage in strategies of lawsuit prevention. Any employee who said anything remotely resembling that comment would be fired on the spot in any establishment I owned, managed or advised. And if I were sued over the comment, I'd move to add them as a party defendant.
APE
If someone tried to sue me over a comment like that I'd laugh in their face as it would be about as pathetic as they come. People are too sue happy. I've been threatened with being sued before and they backed off when I pointed out how quickly they would lose.
The Interpreter
I am not so confident in predicting court outcomes. And even if you win a lawsuit filed against you, you lose. Time, money, stress, higher insurance costs, loss of goodwill and reputation, bad publicity. Laugh all you want. For the modern employer, lawsuit prevention is a fact of life. I don't need "joking" employees in a service business. Just another reason I'd not allow so-called spieling.
thedevariouseffect
Exactly.. On another subject you can still smell smoke From up above FOr looks like a long stick with a bowl of smoke at the end..the park has created a bong It's Cheech and Chong the Ride
Tanna
Rode it yesterday. Smelled like smoke. Ride ops dont want you to know that there was an emergency... (me:" Wasnt there a smoking motor yesterday?" Op:" What are you talking about? They wouldn't run FOF if there were any safety issues.
CharleyTheDinosaur
I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary at all when I rode it yesterday. Except they put in nice new flat screen TVs and have the video playing again. I missed it the first few times I rode Flight of Fear this year. Magenta Lizard
I didn't smell anything the two times I rode it today. The first ride was a walk-on even with moderate attendance today, so I think the news may have scared some off. They're up to a 45 min wait now tho, so that may be wearing off.
