Upcoming Changes to Western Row near KI

Featured Replies

Okay, being not from Cincinnati and not familiar with the Cincy area, I'm lost in these discussions.

Could someone please explain to me what Bypass 4 is and why people here hate it so much?

Don't worry, I have no clue what Bypass 4 is either.

Please, do tell..

Route 4 runs from the 275 belt loop up through part of Fairfield out to Hamilton and then up to Middletown. The bypass cuts from the Route 4 in Fairfield to Route 4 between Middletown and Hamilton. It's literally a bypass around Hamilton.

Some people don't like it because to improve traffic flow, the road has a few U-turns needed to cross over Bypass4. I really have 0 problems with the traffic flow. It's a bit different but works just fine. My only issue is with drivers who can't stay in their own turning lane and drift into mine.

And to those who See Blue, it will always remind us of New Circle Road.

Terp, who remembers thinking that New Circle Road was the ultimate in heavy traffic...40 years ago. Wow.

Rumors have been circulating for a few years now that KI's parking lot was going to go through some major changes. A Cedar Fair/Mason partnership that would merge the north and south tolls and put a bigger toll booth closer to where the north tolls are now. This would prevent traffic backup onto 71 on busy days (northbound).

I wonder if this Western Row project will be in conjunction with that...

IMO traffic flow has actually improved substantially since they made the changes, as odd as they may seem.

That would be nice... I hate how the line to get in to the parking lot is longer than the actual line for rides!

Here is the design of the intersections along Bypass 4 (I hope this works...never linked to a video here before!):

Basically, if you are on a lesser street that crosses the major route, you cannot simply cross the major route by going straight through the light. You have to turn right onto the major route, then make a U-turn, then turn right back onto the street you were originally on. If you are traveling on the major route, you now have two lights to get through at each cross street (one at the U-turn and another at the actual intersection. It just seems...weird.

I will say that the traffic flow is much improved, but I credit the fact that they added more travel lanes more than this intersection design.

And I still maintain that a traffic light salesman was involved :D !

But those U-Turn lanes only turn green/red when a car is approaching them. So its not like its on a timer.

Only thing I wish for the Bypass was that you could turn right on red from the curb lane.

The only part of Bypass 4 that I've been on is the intersection with Route 4. To make a turn, you have to turn right, and sit at two stoplights

Where on Bypass 4 is this?

As far as traffic circles go, West Chester has done that in some areas (don't remember where exactly), and the Indianapolis suburb of Carmel has gone nuts with them. I've never understood why they're not as common here in the US. They seem to work well overseas.

How many miles apart were those circles ? :)

Also, that two liter bottle weighed what 1-3 pounds ? :)

And in Louisville, parts of 265 still have distances shown in km on the signs (apparently another thing that's stuck around from the attempt to convert the US to metric)
