BoddaH1994
Looks exciting. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/11/26/business/media/disney-pairs-up-with-turner-to-promote-shows-and-a-ride.html?smid=tw-share&_r=0&referrer=
Delirium13
And the changes at Disney's Hollywood Studios continue... Sounds like a win-win for both parties. I'm glad the Great Movie Ride will be getting a refresh, rather than being replaced amid all the coming to the park. If all goes as planned, I should be at Walt Disney World in just over a year, in January 2016, so hopefully I'll get to ride the updated ride relatively soon.
The Interpreter
The beginning of the article is insightful. Time Warner. Disney. Yep. Money makes strange bedfellows, too. Somewhere, I hear Paul Pressler. Actually....I hope not.
shark6495
Yea I can't see how this isn't a win-win. TCM gets some new programming (and new advertising dollars) while WDW gets a refresh of an older ride.
RailRider
Ive heard this rumor floating around since early 2013, should be a nice partnership with some updates. The theater is going to be a central focal point of the park once again with the removal of the hat, so these changes are going to be very well timed.
The Interpreter
Who'd want to keep changes like this under the hat?
CedarPointer
I'm just glad that we're not losing another classic...
Voicetek
Just rode this ride about a month or so ago and was wondering when or if this ride would ever be updated. Well, I guess I found out the answer.
PyroKinesis
Excellent news. Sounds like that area of the park will get some much needed love.
Aaron88stang
Am I reading it correctly that really the only changes are to the films in the preshow and end of the ride?
purdude86
Yea it's not really a full update for the ride. The ride itself will be mostly unchanged. Just some new stuff in the queue and a new video at the end. Otherwise it's the same. Still nice to see some refresh and glad to see it's not going anywhere but like to see it get updated sometime
RailRider
From my understanding the only updates will be in the preshow and queue and then once the new areas of the park go online they will take it down for a major update. The park cannot afford anymore attractions offline right now, which is why they are slow rolling this.
Gabe
The video at the end can be cheaply updated and upgraded to digital. In its current state it's horrible to look at from your vantage point in your seat. I would also like to see some more next-gen animatronics like the witch interspersed throughout the ride. For those who scoff at Disney doing outside partnerships, one need only look about a mile away at Epcot. Most of Future World and the countries are sponsored...
LongLiveTheSmurfRide
I think that the most exciting thing, for me, is the Disney Vault programming that they're going to be showing on TCM. I love those old Disneyland and Wonderful World Of Color shows.
bkroz
It's so weird. I think what we're seeing right now is the prologue before the resort-wide refresh that so many Disney fans have been waiting for. Epcot is getting Maelstrom (divisive, but at least it's movement) plus strong hints of a Soarin' expansion that'll prep it for the eventual shift to Soarin' The World or whatever its name ends up being. At this point, I think it's fare to assume that Epcot could be in line for a "New Future World." The Imagination and Energy pavilions are in pretty bad states and Innoventions is still pointless. The whole identity of Future World is so jumbled. The architecture is so 1980s. The style is so cold. Hollywood Studios, though, is almost certainly going to get a giant, park-wide refresh like Disney California Adventure (though I don't think it'll match that scale). Their timing is a little odd. Close half the park, but with no immediate plans or announcement made public... Why? But we're well on our way. Let's hope this develops as I think it will. Toy Story Playland (the rumored expansion for the Studio Tour plot) is a "cheap and cheerful" installation, but its something.
Gabe
Much like Frozen is being incorporated into the parks, it seems like Disney has been having a great run with Big Hero 6. I can easily see some BH6 tie-ins with Future World (Innoventions?). Perhaps Marvel or the Muppets can breathe new life into the Imagination or currently SBNO Wonders of Life building. Stark Industries would be a great fit for the WOL pavilion with a D or E-ticket type ride inside.
shark6495
Except Stark lives at another park....
bkroz
He sure does. Disneyland Park in sunny Anaheim, California. Soon on Lantau Island, Hong Kong, too. And in Marne-la-Vallee, France?
shark6495
Watching the Cartoons released and they were nice to see some old cartoons unedited. Now they have the Disneyland description with Walt. Very interesting and fun to watch Walt talk about the park.
