rcwizard13
In the stupidity of today's world, waiting until closing leads to death.
rcwizard13
Okay, so I just noticed something bizarre. We were looking into going to Cedar Point the Monday and Tuesday of Memorial Day, but then I noticed they close at 8. In fact the Point closes at 8 Monday through Thursday all the way through June 9! Meanwhile, KI starts daily 10 o clock closings on Memorial Day (May 30). So, what is Cedar Point doing closing at 8 through June 9?! The Point is much more of a destination park than KI, most colleges are already out, and most other schools are getting out this week or within the next two weeks. It makes no sense to me. Does anyone here have any thoughts on why this may be?
PhantomTheater
10-10 has typically begun on the first Friday of June at CP. Meanwhile, Mean Streak opened today.
The Interpreter
The weather on that peninsula is substantially different than it is in Mason. And most guests there have different spending patterns at a resort/destination park than do the largely commuter guests--none of whom stay on property, at Mason.
thekidd33
Also, most of the Detroit area schools are still in session into early June if I remember correctly.
Kenban
King's Island does get a lot more local guests. It is very likely that more people go after work or school then at Cedar Point.
Creed Bratton
I forgot when Hoeter and I visited, Cedar Downs was no longer playing the racing theme/song. It was playing a horse race audio (someone calling out which horse is taking the lead which isn't on the ride). Really disappointing. Had a friend confirm it is still not playing as of today. :/ Sent from the cellphone Zach Morris used in Saved By The Bell using Tapatalk
Magenta Lizard
The horse race announcing is what I recall it having from the time I was a kid, until the last I went, about ten years ago.
PhantomTheater
The announcer is what the ride had from it's move to CP till about 5 years ago when the updated the audio system. The change back to the announcer pleases me, as that also seemed more horse race than whatever that music was. On a side note, during it's time at Euclid Beach there was no audio at all.
TTD-120-420
I dont think anyone answered this when I asked last month: What does the Shoot the Rapids area look like? Did they take it down or is it SBNO?
vortexfan
Last I had seen, the lift/drop structures have been removed but the concrete troughs, station, and some other scenery elements still remain.

TTD-120-420
That looks really nice. Classy.
malem
Basically, they demoed it the same way Holiday World did theirs. Land clearing is expensive. It looks better than if two decaying lift hills were dotting the skyline.
The Interpreter
That looks really nice. Classy.Son of Beast station. The Crypt Box. Kil-Mart The Motion Theaters The Née Paramount Story Area (flipped stoned and all) Yeah. I guess I do see Der Point.
Creed Bratton
As of "opening weekend" if you looked in the ride photo/gift shop you'd see merchandise still sitting around waiting to be sold....well....not a lot of merchandise but some.
malem
^ There was a selection of Shoot the Rapids drinkware on the counter as of yesterday.
The Interpreter
I'm surprised it hasn't been carted off to Ohio's Wildwater Kingdom to be sold...
Creed Bratton
Cedar Point is currently without power, due to a major storm passing through. I had hear reports of a waterspout crossing the causeway. Here are some pictures collected by CPFoodBlog from user submission: From Sandusky Scanner Live on Facebook:
malem
CoasterMania weekend just isn't good luck for utility lines extending to the peninsula... Hopefully everyone is alright!
rcwizard13
Wow. Glad we made our Cedar Point trip last weekend over this one. I hope no one was hurt.
Creed Bratton
As far as I've heard, there are no injuries. They have been routing everyone down Cedar Point Road. From what I understand no one is allowed to enter the Causeway in either direction.
jbum123
Power is out to the back of the park. Nothing is running.
Creed Bratton
From CP on Twitter. I'm gonna guess this will be a few days until Causeway is open. Sent from the cellphone Zach Morris used in Saved By The Bell using Tapatalk
jcgoble3
A few days with only the Chaussee for access to and from the park? Wow. That's going to be an absolute nightmare in terms of traffic.
Creed Bratton
A few days with only the Chaussee for access to and from the park? Wow. That's going to be an absolute nightmare in terms of traffic. Only two issues I see: One lane in each direction and speed limit may or may not be followed.
The Interpreter
Well, there's also that it is a posted private road that the public has no right to use as a thrufare. This could get interesting.
jcgoble3
And how many toll booths are there at the end of the road where it enters the parking lot? IIRC, there's only one toll booth.

Very interesting....if that's the case then I've violated the right to use it multiple times, especially as of recently. I prefer that route than the Causeway sometimes. And how many toll booths are there at the end of the road where it enters the parking lot? IIRC, there's only one toll booth. You are correct, 1....totally forgot.
