Well, I was an open shift today, so I decided to check out the new water park with Dane. I went home quickly after the shift, changed into my swimsuit and changed shirts, and headed back. I meet up with him, and we walk through the path from the main park to water park.

Part 1 of review: SIGNS! Many of the changes seemed to be new signs. The old signs for everything all seemed bland and boring. The new signs for all of the rides were colorful, and interesting. Each had a different design, instead of the cookie cutter design of older slides.

Part 2: ENTRANCE! They really improved the entrance from the main park. The fountain has been changed to be (of course) more colorful. Not only that, but the stores are also very colorful. Guess what the tone of the entrance was! COLOR! If you like lots of color, you will be in paradise. And it wasn't overdone IMO.

Part 3: CONCRETE! Yes, the park still is a concrete paradise. Those sand path rumors were false, because not once did I see a sand path. In fact, I didn't see any sand at all in the park.

And now, to the rides. Our first target, the dominating Tazmanian Typhoon. All I can say it, wow... it's big. I mean, REALLY big. This thing is HUGE! Besides the size of the funnel, the ride is also big on fun. The ride starts off by getting you wet from a waterfall over the entrance to the tunnel. the tunnel was very cool, because mainly you didn't know when the funnel was until the final drop is in front of (or in Dane's case) behind you. Going up the wall of the funnel isn't anything spectacular, but it gets you spinning, and with the spinning, and the swinging, it's kinda like Delirium with water and lots of colors. As the raft came into the splash-down pool, I summed up the ride very fittingly, "I'm cold, I'm disoriented, and I loved it!" Taz get's a 9 out of 10!

We see that the old Wipeout Beach (now Pipeline Paradise) has a short line, so we decide why not. Nothing changed about this ride. The benches are still there, just different ones. Of course, I still suck at that...

Next up: The Coolangatta Racers! The floor on the step up can be dangerous! While it is much more comfortable than the old circles, they got very slick with all of the water falling down from the second slide (yes, it seems to be leaking already). One lady supposedly slipped on the steps as we walked up. The ride itself still has it's kinks. As Dane put it, "You hump your way down". Thats because the ride hasn't been broken it yet, so the pad you go down on keeps bouncing up and down as you go down the slide. Also, the pads like to stick at the start of the slide, causing someone to take an early lead and not get it back *coughDANEcough*. The squeaking noise of the pads rubbing against the padding at the start could get very annoying. I give this a 6 outta 10, ride if you feel like it. One funny thing, hold on to your pad! We saw one flew down on top of a roof of a building below.

Well, I did not get to ride everything, but I saw other things. The Kookaburra bay is very, VERY small. Nothing compared to the size in the original pictures. The new kiddy area is much bigger than I expected.

Overall, I liked the park. It isn't everything we expected, but it is a good chunk of it. I give the new water park a first glance score of 7.5 out of 10.

Well, the main park after this was BUSY. Line for Beast when we checked it out with just 30 minutes till 10 was an hour and 15 minutes long! It was like that all day. I did get 3 rides on Eagles, and 1 on Zephyr (with my shoes off!).

I wish I had a camera to show all the color!

I went there today. I REALLY liked it. It was really crowded so I didn't get to ride anything new. But I loved all the color...there was so much vibrant color...everywhere. My only complaint is that Kookaburra Bay wasn't as "secluded and peaceful" as they said it would be. Jackaroo Landing was awesome... especially the huge bucket that dumped all the water. And Taz. This thing is HUGE. So much bigger than i thought it would be. It looks almost unreal it's so big. I also liked the new fountain...nice vibrant colors. And I REALLY liked how they had a smoking area near the entrance. When it comes to new rides... PKI really knows how to do it! biggrin.gifcool.gif

I am a secind year lifeguard at the Boomrang Bay. I started working at the new park on Sunday May 23. The new waterpark is way better to work at then last year. The old music is gone(Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffet songs) and they added some new music. There were a lot more teenagers there than in the past. I didn't have to tell anyone to stop smoking(thank you, desigated area). Teh new music is an improvement but they need to add some newer music because you still heard songs over and over again.

The waterpark I hear is still not done yet, they still need to add sand. The offical opening of the waterpark is on Saturday May 29 and I hope they have it done by opening. The new cabanas are new and the bar is a nice add on. I really wanted to work on Tazmanian Typhoon but I was on a different rotation all day(children's area and wavepool one). The lines were long for all the new rides but I expected that. All in all the new waterpark will be awesome to work at this year and I hope that everyone will enjoy what it has to offer.

I think one reason it was so crowded was people ridimg the train. Anybody could get in at the train exit at BB, since they weren't checking for the passes

-Jake

They did check gold passes at the train exit.

I love how the new water park looks, but the soundtrack does need some work. The colors out there are very vibrant... well done PKI. The landscaping looks really nice too. Haven't ridden any of the new rides yet but they all look fun, and I haven't heard many complaints The waterpark was insanely crowded all weekend, so we'll see how long it takes for the phenomenon of it to wear off.

BTW STXbomber.... I can't believe you didn't ride the train out there, I am very disappointed in you.

The water park was extremly crowded when i arrived on Sunday around 4. However, by 6, the lines and people were almost nonexistant (we had two rides on Tas in less than 15 minutes around 6:20. I rode Tasmanian Typhoon three times, and it is an incredibly fun ride! I also rode Collangatta Racers. Besides the massive amount of water that went in my right ear, it was a fun ride. The colors in BB are very nice. I think the park did an excellent job! I finished the day with an almost walk on wait to Snowy River Rampage, formerly know as Rushing River. I had a blast and wished that it wasn`t quite so swamped with people!

I would've ridden the train, cept I was coming in from the employee parking lot, and it would've been out of the way. And I didn't really sneak in, I still got checked by the pass checker on my way in, because the gate was just before the checkers.

well yes there are surfoards.

There's no surfboards at BB. just bodyboards or as the kook's call them boogieboards. just to let you know 2/3rds of surfers paradise is down because of

pipe and pumps, most likly from the taz ride. I say they will get them going before media day or the media will be crying.

You are not allowed to bring a surfboard into the park. You can bring a bodyboard

into the park and ride on one of the three flowriders, And it must be certified at guest relations before you can ride it.

And one word of advise don't bring one in with a leash plug in it , they don't let them on the rides.

a surf board has skegs on the bottom of the board , A flowrider bodyboard doesn't have any Yogi that may be what's confusing you on your description.

C'mon Yogi you should know this stuff your smarter than the average bear. Lol
