Tweet Ups?

As far as I know there haven't been any tweet-ups since last season (replaced by Twitter-announced Beast behind-the-scenes tours which are in my opinion way better).

I have heard Don didn't like the tweet-ups because people started following him around the park rather than waiting for a tweet. I think he likes more natural interactions.

I hope this isn't the case.  Being followed around and "identified" by people is exactly the kind of positive social media presence the park should want.  It means people are paying attention to what is going on at the park, even when they are not there.  I'm sure Tony Clark can't go anywhere at Cedar Point without being identified and asked about tweet ups.

I'm not sure exactly how the different parks handle social media.  I know Cedar Point has a team of people that manage it, which I believe is a little different than other parks in the chain.

I must respectfully disagree. The tweet-ups are something that sound fun in theory, but in actual practice at best are a complete waste of the social media platform because all prizes go to whoever literally follows Don, and at worst encourages people to run in the park and endanger their own and others' safety.

The behind the-scenes tours have been fantastic, because they use the PR Director as a font of information rather than some sort of treat-dispensing machine. It can bring people to the park on a day they might otherwise not have come, and a larger number of people get a positive experience. With the tweet-ups, you generally just have to accidentally be in the park already, and nearly everyone who participates is going to be disappointed. I've been on four Beast tours now (two of those the Twitter-announced ones this season), and every time I have learned something new, seen something different. It's much more valuable to me than a free Banshee poster or other trinket.

For people who just want free stuff, they've added that as a thing in the app. It makes more sense to use that as a random prize dispenser than a living human being.

I enjoy seeing Don around the park and when I get the opportunity to talk to him about the park. I don't want him to start feeling like he can't go out and walk among park patrons and share his knowledge and experience because a certain subset of people are treating him like a slot-machine.

Having events that are interactive with park guests is a complete waste of the social media platform?  I agree that the behind-the-scene tours are a nice thing to have, but they happen too infrequently, and really are only interesting for more of the "hardcore" fans of the park.  I wouldn't think the tweet-ups are done for those of us who frequent forums like this.  They are done for more of the average park-goer, particularly those who are teenagers.  For those folks, the chance for free front-of-the-line passes is pretty awesome.  That is going to attract a broader audience, and isn't the point to get as many twitter followers as possible?

I don't necessarily think Kings Island needs to follow the same model and have tweet-ups all the time.  As you said, maybe the app can fill that role in a better capacity.  Tony Clark is hardly a "walking slot machine" at Cedar Point.  For many he is the "face" of the park.  The tweet-ups might be mostly about free stuff, but the end result is that more people are paying attention.  How many park guests can actually identify someone that works at Kings Island?

Also notice Tony has staff to work with to do Tweetups as well, it's not always him sometimes. Secondly his prizes are alot more high dollar. Several times he's given out Fast Lane for the day and other items. A poster is alright, it's a neat small trinket, but hey I'll take Fast Lane for finding him somewhere.

I do like when he's done Tweetups that are a bit more cryptic. Just a picture, find me here, or find me by Matterhorn, etc. are too easy. The ones that make people think have been the ones I've won.
