December 31, 20169 yr Author More live coverage from the NBC affiliate in Los Angeles: https://www.facebook.com/NBCLA/videos/10154380993211028/ Firefighters will now be using cables to take riders down to the ground one at a time, children first. Apparently this is caused by the ride's brake system malfunctioning, and riders have been stuck for close to 5 hours now.
December 31, 20169 yr Longer than WindSeeker? I think this is the third Intamin Gyro Tower to get stuck recently. Hopefully Cedar Fair doesn't start eyeballing the Carowinds Skytower for removal due to this, Sky Cabin may be the next WindSeeker for Knotts.
December 31, 20169 yr Author Here's the most recent statement from the park, posted to both Facebook and Twitter at approximately 10pm Pacific last night (1am this morning Eastern time): https://twitter.com/knotts/status/815078361374461952
December 31, 20169 yr You know, these types of rides are basically elevators. I live in Toledo, which is the home of Haughton Elevator. There are inherent problems with elevators, but I have to ask why a company like Intamin is bothering to "get into the business". Why not let an established company build the guts and then Intamin can design and build the gingerbread?
December 31, 20169 yr Otis Elevator helped with Disney's Tower of Terror.... I am pretty sure Intamin does subcontract parts of their rides...
