A park employee really said that?  Was he fired?

No I believe he was told to do that. That was to help with the chaos of the hype of the new ride. He actually did not say it in that manner. 

So he was announcing this to everyone as they entered the park?   How does sending everyone in the wrong direction help with the chaos?

Check out this OVC video from opening day 2017, you can hear that guy in the background giving people some instructions on the loud speaker

It's because if you remember they had you walk down the path between Backlot and that smoothie stand. They were likely planning on wrapping the line that way if it got that long. We rode twice that night. Waiting for 1 hour and 2.5 hours. 

But if i wanted to ride Banshee first I had to go to the right down International Street?   Just doesn’t make any sense.

If you wanted to ride Banshee though why would you walk down I-Street at all? You would enter the park and turn to the left right away.

The announcer is only presenting a binary choice when entering the park. Left or right side of IS.  That is it.   Just working with what was presented here.

Ok I want to clarify something here. I made a mistake. I tend to get my directions mixed up. He did in fact say Mystic Timbers riders were on the right side of IS. Others were on the left. I apologise for that.
