The-Snapper
FINAL RESULTS: 2004 Internet Wooden Tracked Roller Coaster Poll In a recent wooden coaster poll The Beast was ranked 47th! I found it shocking but I can understant perfectly why and that is because all the ride is anyore is breaks and more breaks. I know all you Beast lovers who think Beast is the best I hate to break it to you but it isnt the best anymore. And I love The Beast but I see why The Beast isnt that great anymore. 1 Shivering Timbers Michigan's Adventure MI 131 2 Boulder Dash Lake Compounce CT 125 3 Phoenix Knoebel's PA 159 4 Tremors Silverwood ID 61 5 Thunderhead Dollywood TN 94 6 - Raven Holiday World IN 164 7 Balder Liseberg SE 39 8 - The Legend Holiday World IN 159 9 - Megafobia Oakwood UK 56 10 - Aska Nara Dreamland JP 10 11 Rampage Visionland AL 68 12 Avalanche Timber Falls WI 20 13 GhostRider Knott's Berry Farm CA 162 14 Ozark Wildcat Celebration City MO 46 15 Coaster Playland BC 59 16 Colossos Heide Park DE 68 17 Cornball Express Indiana Beach IN 119 18 Comet Great Escape NY 84 19 Tonnerre de Zeus Parc Asterix FR 78 20 Grand National Blackpool UK 70 21 Timber Terror Silverwood ID 65 22 New Mexico Rattler Cliff's NM 34 23 Lightning Racer - L Hersheypark PA 163 24 Tsunami Clementon Lake NJ 22 25 Lightning Racer - T Hersheypark PA 166 26 Cyclone Astroland NY 107 27 - Viper SFGAm IL 167 28 Excalibur Funtown USA ME 51 29 Serpiente de Fuego La Feria MX 13 30 Mega Zeph SF New Orleans LA 52 31 Dania Bch Hurricane Dania Beach FL 47 32 Georgia Cyclone SFoG GA 140 33 Loup Garou SF Belgium BE 74 34 Twister Knoebel's PA 154 35 Stampida Port Aventura ES 50 36 Giant Dipper Santa Cruz Bch Bdwk CA 105 37 Screechin' Eagle(S) LeSourdsville Lake OH 60 38 Texas Giant SFoT TX 97 39 Cyclone Lakeside CO 64 40 Wild One SF America MD 133 41 Cyclops Big Chief WI 72 42 The Boss Six Flags St Louis MO 116 43 Comet (SBNO) Lincoln Park MA 10 44 Thunderbolt Kennywood PA 187 45 Silver Comet Martin's Fantasy Is. UncleHenry
Well NO KIDDING! I've been trying to tell people this for a long time. Beast is only my 3rd fav wood coaster, Legend and GhostRider beat it out. Beast aint that good, but it's not because of the brakes. I don't think it isn't my fav because of the brakes. If the brakes weren't there, neither would Beast.
CoastersRZ
Uncle Henry, you can have your opinion. But I personally think that The Beast is a wonderful wooden coaster. It is my number one coaster, in part because it is so unique from other wooden coasters. The other thing I like about The Beast is that the ride speeds through the 35 acres of woods that it sits on, away from the park. I also like that there are underground tunnels. To each their own though.
UncleHenry
I never said The Beast wasn't a wonderful ride. I love The Beast, and is one of my fav wood coasters. What I DON'T like are people who are blinded by Beast and can't admit that there are other, better wood coasters out there. There's a name for people like that: FANBOYS. Same goes with people who think PKI is the best park in the world. I personally liked KBF better than PKI, and liked HW a whole lot better. Of course, PKI is still one of my fav parks. And you think every park I visit I like? No. SFMM was a terrible park. Yes, everyone has the right to their own opinion, but you can't make an informed opinion until you leave Ohio and go to other parks with other world-class wood coasters. fryler87
Sad but true. The Beast doesn't sparkle as brightly as some of these newer woodies do. The Beast was ground-breaking. People flocked from miles around. The Beast at King's Island set the standard. To me, parks from then on could only try to collaborate with designers to build something even more exciting. This past summer, I went to Hersheypark, and let me tell you, Lightning Racer became my new favorite. Nevermind the fact that each side isn't even half as long as The Beast. Nevermind the fact that Lightning Racer is shorter in height and drop. Nevermind the fact that Lightning Racer doesn't come close to The Beast's speed. It was something new. It was refreshing. The Beast never gets old, but each ride is pretty much a similiar pattern every time. Lightning Racer takes you through dips. If The Beast was a light bulb, It'd be a 40-watt incandescent from the 70's. Newer rides are like friggin HID lamps putting out light at 9500 Kelvin. LongLiveBEAST
BEAST owns all be quiet Brad and Brandon im just kidding.......Brad and Brandon are right, BEAST owns all coasters to me but I've spent countless hours doubting Brandon and Brad and I take their word that their are better. BEAST doesn't kick ur ass like it use to. I doubt them still in a way though

familyman
The Beast rules. After 25 years it is still a record setter. Not many can say that. dont hate..lol
UncleHenry
I'm not hating! Beast is still in my top 25% of wood coasters (been on 12... I think...). Its just that I have been on several wood coasters outside of PKI, and They beat Beast IMO. GhostRider barely beat it out, but all of the headchoppers as you go through the supports gave it the lead. Legend blew Beast away with its headchoppers, headchoppers with WATER PARK slides, air time, laterals (Sometimes airtime and laterals at the same time), and speed. Beast has speed, headchoppers, laterals, and the lost feeling.
DeliriumDreamer
That lost feeling is cool, especially when you ride in the front seat at night. Lots of wind, lots of darkness. I haven't ridden enough rides to beat that out, yet. I have only been on one other woodie at another park, and it doesn't hold a candle to The Beast. The Screeching Eagle at Americana. That ride was one of the best in the park, but it's nothing much at all.
TRTR Guy
The Brakes on The Beast really dont have that big of an impact, there have always been brakes on The Beast in the location there at now ( with the exception of 2002 on the first drop) and look what happened when they didnt have that brake, it tore the track to crap in no time. The mag brakes jsut have a faster trigger then the skids, its going about the same speed through the brake shed now as it did pre 2001. Ryan
The cornball express beating The Beast? Yeah, sure. Look, there are other coasters out there that give experiences on par with The Beast or better, but it's the mother of all terrain coasters, a kick ass ride, and just because fanboys that did not like The Beast voted for their own coaster they are fanatical about(that's all these polls are, just for fun, to say it means The Beast has ceased to be a world wide favorite is ridiculous). I think The Beast cannot continue to be a #1 ride on every poll all the time, enthusiast polls are bull because enthusiasts have fanboy favorites, and GP polls are bull because the GP doesn't ride as many coasters as enthusiasts do. Bottom line, I wouldn't look at how great a coaster is based on it's internet poll ranking. Especially when the cornball express ranks much higher than The Beast in one of those polls(I'm not dissing that ride, lol, just saying, it's no rival to The Beast). The Beast still rules in my book, and I like his son too. Even though there are experiences that rival or surpass it, The Beast's experience is truly legendary, and a legend can never die. With that said, I would love to see alot of the breaking removed or cut back, the ride was better without it. LONG LIVE The Beast!

Legend and Raven, but also try the tower ride and swings, they might not be headliners, but they are great rides, with short waits... ...twelve at a time on LL, but hey, you dont wait long if you opt to go singles! just ask Snapper, or UH Never done screechin' eagle, hear it was awful, but eh, im used to my raven and legend riding... get on! sit down! ride! TheKlockster
Long live Son of Beast! Can I hear some praise for the most AWESOME ride in the universe? Son of Beast is by far the best ride at PKI. That said - I think its cool that Tremors! from Silverwood made it to number 4. That park is about three hours from where I used to live, in Bozeman, Montana, but I never went. It looks really cool though. If you want to see more about it - go to www.silverwoodthemepark.com. When I go out to visit my parents some time, I am going to swing by and ride thist totally B*TCHIN roller coaster! But I will proably still like SOB better. TheKlockster
Everyone has their own preference. SOB can't be beat. Literally. Its the tallest, fastest and only looping wooden roller coaster in the world. And I like wooden coasters better than steel coasters. And I think SOB is very fun. Heres how I rank coasters at PKI: SOB Beast Vortex Face/off Flight of Fear recaR Top Gun Racer Rugrats Runaway Reptar Ill let you know what my day record is next year when I ride SOB for 14 hours straight. Alien Seed
Yeah, I'll have to try that with TRTR next season. At an average of 8 cycles an hour, I think I can get around 80-112 rides.
CoastersRZ
Yeah, I admit, that there are some other good wooden coasters out there that can compete with The Beast. Personally, I liked the Tornado at Stricker`s Grove. That thing has some serious ejector air in a couple of the seats like I`ve never felt on a wooden coaster before. I still have yet to make it out to Holiday World to ride their rides. After all the different coasters I`ve riden, (I`ve been on 67) I still rank The Beast as one of my favorite wooden coasters. Although after riding 67, the best one is hard to exactly pin down. As far as SoB goes, I used to like it, but last season every time I rode it I walked off with a headache or not wanting to ride any more rides in the park and just go home. That really isn`t a feeling I want to feel after I ride a ride. Even when I was in seat 1-2 it wasn`t much better.
UncleHenry
I keep hearing Ohio coasters compared to Beast. Yes, Beast is the best wood coaster in Ohio IMO, but go outside of the state then compare people!
TheKlockster
Seat 1.2 is rough! Seat 4.2 is by far the smoothest. Take my word - I have done them all.

CoastersRZ
Son of Beast is still the world`s tallest wooden coaster at 218' and it also has the tallest drop on a wooden coaster at 214'. Additionally, it is the fastest wooden coaster in the world at 78.383 miles per hour. And finally, Son of Beast is the world`s only looping wooden roller coaster. I also remember hearing a while back that SoB was the tallest timber frame structure in the world, or something similar to that but can`t quite remember what that was about. Great America Guy
The Beast will always be my number one coaster. It was the first 'big' roller coaster that I ever rode, and to tell you the truth, I'd rather take one ride on The Beast, than spend the entire day riding my #2 coaster. (Raging Bull). Maybe its the nostalgia that surrounds that coaster, but it still blows me away every time I ride it. It's just one of those ride experiences that absolutely can not be found anywhere else. But then again, I have a reputation of really enjoying roller coasters that others don't care for, like Great American Scream Machine(SFOG), Gwazi, American Eagle, Iron Wolf, Son of Beast, and the former Shockwave.
TheKlockster
By shockwave, do you mean the one that used to be at SFGA? That looked pretty cool, but I will never be able to ride it as it is torn down. I still can't believe Beast was #47. I wonder why - I thought it was like the most famous Wood Coaster in the world. And SOB didn't even make the cut!
The-Snapper
SOB does beat all records and they forgot about a 1 record and that is its BEATS the living hell out of you!
CYoung2003
Ok, first of all Son of Beast holds more than 3 records, it holds 7! Second of all you have to know how to ride a wood coaster. Most people tense up when it gets rough, if you loosen up at the rough parts, believe it or not it wont be as bad. Finally, the smoothest seat on the ride is 6-2. Thank you. LONG LIVE SOB! HabloRM
SOB does beat all records and they forgot about a 1 record and that is its BEATS the living hell out of you! Are you sure that The Beast's record beats the HELL out of SOB? Beast: 7400' SOB: 7032' Doesn't sound like a beating from hell. Sounds like a 368 foot difference. KIBeast
Klockster said, "I'll let you know what my day record is next year when I ride SOB for 14 hours straight." And I'll be waiting for you with an on site MRI that you will need afterwards. Just joking. I really do like SOB, but I can't take too many laps on it.
