if a return, when would they announce it?

They are not doing any of the theming, just lights on the buildings and little things that no one ( unless really looking hard ) would notice. Mainly just lights and stuff like that. They started doing the lights and everything right after the park closed. Mainly buildings and very minute details, nothing major to hint that Winterfest is coming, but just getting some easy stuff done

actually none of the bulidings have lights on them now. When the park was closed they were just seeing what it would take to do one building and tryin to get a feel of what to do if they were to bring back winterfest. If winterfest were to come back the decor would not go up until around fearfest time

Very interesting, thanks for the info. I wonder what rides would operate during the run of Winterfest.

Train, carousel, shops, shows... they may get bold this time around and add FoF, Fx Theatre, and any other indoor attractions.

As stated above those would be the only rides that were allowed to run. Any metal ride would not be allowed to run due to the fact that it has to be 50 degrees in order for them to run.

But Flight of Fear is in a climate controlled environment, so it could operate in sub 50 degree weather. (As an aside, Vortex has operated in weather colder than 50 degrees). Now if only they could bring back the lights on the IS buildings during the summer at night, like they used to until a couple seasons ago. IS still seems dark and odd at night withought those lights. Hopefully they decide to have Winterfest this season. I think it would be really popular, and not just amongst us enthusiasts.

Very interesting information! It certainly sounds like Winterfest may make its triumphant return in 2005! I personally hope they do bring it back. I think that the success The Beach has had with Holiday Fest over the past couple of seasons could be part of the reason they may bring it back. To try and capitalize on money in the month of Decemeber that would not normally be earmarked for KI but other holiday attractions like Festival of Lights and Holiday Fest. I also hope that they keep FearFest in some manner in October. Only time will tell if they are indeed bringing Winterfest back for sure in 2005.

The way I understand it, the new hotel had it built in the contract negotiation that KI had to provide some type of winter attraction so their business doesn't completely dry up dunring our off season. In fact, at one point when it was reported that the deal fell through, I heard that the lack of winter attractions was the deciding factor. So this doesn't surprise me at all that they bring back winterfest. I doubt it had anything to do with the success of anything at the Beach. Oh yea, and to further the point that winterfest will be back, I was told that i needed to start taking some time off to meet the 2 months off criteria to stay a seasonal worker year round. So it looks like we will be here all year after all.

They run under 50, I was riding them with snow falling on opening day last year.

We was riding them on the last day and it wasn't 50 that night.

It was so cold the PKIC members used a lighter to stay warm.

When Paramount bought KI, the contract said that they could not do winterfest for 5 years. That 5 years was up the first of this year. That is why they are having winterfest. Do not ask me why that was in the contract, but it was. As for the hotel, I do not know what is going on with that, but I am not sure that the lack of winter attractions would be enough reason for the deal to fall through. That seems like a really lame excuse. I hope that the hotel comes because people need a decent place to stay and that would boost our attendance and therefore profit! smile.gif

Perhaps you can help me follow the math on this one. Paramount bought the park in 1992, 5 years after that would be 1997, which is 8 years ago. So that "5 year contract" story isn't the reason they haven't had winterfest.

Guess this is the reason the park starting giving math test to workers.

If it was free with season pass purchase I would consider going. Other than that they would have to offer me a pretty good discount to get me in the park. With 3 kids and my wife it could get pretty pricey to walk around in the cold.

^ And your one to be talking about it, especially since your under the impression that 2005-1992=5, tad bit off there. I don't doubt there was a "contract" or anything, that is very possible I was just making the point that if there was it wasnt 5 years.

I highly doubt that it was in the contract to not have Winterfest for x years after Paramount bought the park. Why? Because for starters, Paramount owned the parks in December of 1992, when Kings Island last held Winterfest. Secondly, why would KECO mandate that Winterfest not be held for x years after the park was sold? They had nothing to gain or loos by PKI having or not having Winterfest.

I've never been to Winter Fest (I probably said that several times) But It would be cool if I could experience the event. I don't think it would be worth taking away Fear Fest from us. They could still have Fear fest, just afterwards they can put the Halloween park decorations away, then get ready for WinterFest. That would mean that the park would practically almost stay open the whole season... Alil

I am sorry that I got that wrong.... putting that behind us... FearFest would be a bad thing to get rid of. Lets face it, as long as we make money and don't lose any money and people still want to work it and be in the attractions, we are going to have fearfest.
