Cedar Point Hit By Layoffs

Featured Replies

Why didn't Tony Clark respond?  I guess Grace will only engage with you through the traditional media outlets....

So they say the cuts are just over 10%, but refuse to provide the actual number or the roles eliminated other than the head honcho at each park....doesn't seem to provide the transparency the investors are looking for....

Six Flags spokeswoman Grace Peacock provided the following statement to the Register:

"As noted in the company’s quarterly earnings call with investors on May 8, Six Flags is in the process of reducing its full-time headcount across the company by just over 10%.

This decision was made after careful consideration and a thorough review of our evolving business needs. This does include Cedar Point, however, the number of associates affected is considered confidential.

We are committed to supporting our associates through this transition. All eligible associates will be presented with either an opportunity to continue in a part-time role or will be provided with a separation package and other benefits.

We expect to complete the majority of the restructuring before the end of June."

It seems that unfortunately this is the strategy being used by Six Flags corporate at the moment. I've heard about news outlets in Charlotte hearing only crickets after requesting a comment on the layoffs from the corporate offices as well. Only releasing good news and keeping everything else confidential is not good when entire departments are being rearranged and let go. It makes the company look shadier and feel even more desperate than it already is. I personally refuse to fault Grace Peacock for this, but it seems clear that Six Flags is trying to do damage control while setting themselves up for hardships in the near future.

We’ll be able to get some idea by whether or not the WARN act is triggered, in which case they’ll be required to disclose the numbers laid off at each site (and give 60 days notice, or pay in lieu of notice). WARN is triggered if 50 or more FT employees are terminated within a 30-day period at any individual site.
