moore
I can't believe it didn't do well. I thought it looked like a good movie. Plus there seemed to be a lot of hype around it.
BoddaH1994
You are right FOF1996. We can expect more heavily themed, boring coasters for the next 20 years. Although, IMO, there are no more Paramount movies left worth theming anything to. So, they will probably use some crappy Paramount movie that you won't remember in five years. I think 20 years is kind of a stretch. I mean, I would definitely agree with 5 years, but who knows what 2025 will bring. If you look at the history of PKI, they seem do go on kicks, or spurts.. Talest, Fastest, Longest, Only 1999 - Drop Zone - Tallest Gyro Drop in the world 2000 - SOB - Tallest, fastest, only looping woody in the world 2001 - Reptar - World's first inverted kiddy coaster Then the themed rides 2002 - Tomb Raider 2003 - SDATHC 2004 - Crocodile Dundee's Waterpark Resort 2005 - The Italian Job Stunt Track Granted, almost any enthusiast can swear that they'll be adding themed attractions for a long time to come, but there could come a point when there just aren't any more to add. If you think about it, what can they possibly do? It would be nearly impossible to retro-fit most flat rides into themed rides like Tomb Raider, and any themed coaster would be same old, same old with IJ. My personal prediction is that we'll see areas gutted and rethemed over the next several years. I mean, everyone and their grandma knows about NC next year, but what about after that? It's very likely that we'll get a new coaster in 2007 in my opinion. This is simply based on the fact that 2007 rumors have been circulating for over a year now, and it's just a little convenient that ACE's CoasterConn happens to be at PKI that year. I think that a coaster won't be all though. PKI has lept into the realm of being a world-class park which causes them to walk a thin tightrope between unimaginable success and blatant failure, and being the type of park that they are they'll almost always fail... at least from one outsider's standard or another. I think that in 2007 there will be some sort of coaster that is integrated into a whole new area. That would correlate with their intentions to extend the average visitor's stay from 6 to 8 hours. Simply put, if there's more to do, people will stay longer. I think this will happen regardless of how much money Viacom is willing to pump into the park, what will ride on it will be if this will be whether this is a magnificant expansion which will solidify PKI's spot on the map, or will be a cheezy expansion that will deteriorate over the course of 6 months. Beyond that, I think that entire areas will be revamped and renamed. This will give the patronage a feeling of a whole new experience, whether is really is or it is just an illusion brought on by renaming rides and slapping on a new coat of paint. Of course, it's not like they can just cyclically go around the park renaming areas, so the future of this park is really up in the air... KIBeast
Yeah Ryan, it just seems to me that they are going to try to theme every ride to some kind of movie. My problem with that is, there are zero good Paramount movies left. Any Paramount movie worth using already has been. So, I'm sure they'll pick some movie that did decent, like Italian Job. You are forgetting about the greatest paramount movie of all The Addams Family they have yet to install a ride themed to the addams family in their parks. Buckeye-Beast
Since we drifted in to rethemeing existing rides again, I know they already changed Amazon falls to Congo falls, But I think Paramounts Without a Paddle would be a closer match. Besides the movie was funny as h***.
KIBeast
You're right ghost, I forgot about the Addams Family. But after that, then what?
Ben
I think PKI should add a 250 ft. B&M Hyper. That would a real crowd pleaser.
KIBeast
Sorry, won't happen. Not a family ride.
Skippy
Coneheads!!!! Too bad all the good Paramount properties were taken by other parks: War of the Worlds, Indiana Jones, and Popeye; just to name a few
HomerJay
Where is there a War of the Worlds attraction?? And there are actually some great Paramount movies left to theme to. Mission:Impossible is a no-brainer, and I can't believe it hasn't been done yet! Addams Family, of course. Star Trek would bring a fun ride I'm sure. A Godfather Italian themed restaurant. What PKI REALLY needs is a big, 300 ft. . . sign at the front of the park saying that They are NOT removing Vortex or Top Gun anytime soon. That will shutup some of those stupid rumors. Skippy
Where is there a War of the Worlds attraction?? It's a set peice and it's part of Universal Hollywood's Studio Tour Click here to see. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I really want Top Gun gone! Biggest waste of money since the Italian Job. BTW, we will be getting Mission:Impossible but in the form of a stunt show. The Addams Family is a given, and Star Trek has already been done, not only as a coaster, but as a live action/simulator and live action/4D show at the Star Trek Experience (which both are very good, although I've never seen Star Trek ). While I'd love to see the Godfater made into an attraction, it's just not very family oriented. In the end all the properties you mentioned will eventually show up in the park, in one form or another
CoastersRZ
Actually, Top Gun is not the biggest waste of money since IJST since Top Gun was around well before IJST. Why removed Top Gun? Yes it is a very short ride, but it is still a fun, enjoyable ride. What is people`s obsesion with wanting the arrow coasters to disappear from PKI? Skippy
Because it's like half of Cedar Point's Iron Dragon, has deteriorated theming, it takes up way to much space, and has a very, very long walk for a very, very short ride
CoastersRZ
Have you ridden Iron Dragon? Top Gun, IMO is a far superior ride, even if the track length is shorter. Iron Dragon is just so slow moving that it is a boring coater. Top Gun is a fast paced, high speed ride that is fun. While it is quite a hike to get to the station, I do not think it takes up that much room, or should be removed for simple reasons such as what you suggest. Skippy
Calm down, eveyone is entitled to have their own opinion and mine just happens to be that I think Top Gun sucks! Geez, don't let it ruin your day, and yes I've been on the Iron Dragon.

I agree with you. I thought Iron Dragon was very boring compaired to Top Gun. When I rode Iron Dragon I was waiting for something big to happen and it never did. I rode Top Gun on Tuesday and made the comment that it was still a good coaster even though it's short. I would love for them to fix the special effects on it. That would make it even better. It's a great coaster for people who may not be ready for the big coasters but need something bigger then The Beastie.

I would love for them to fix the special effects on it. There has been a lot of talk about the special effects of Top Gun recently, mainly the area under the station. One thing that seems to have been forgotten was a really neat effect in which whenver a train would pull into or leave the station, it would do so in a cloud of smoke/fog. I had totally forgetten about this until the other day when I rode it and noticed open-ended PVC pips sticking up through the station. flightoffear1996
I still see that fog once in a great awhile. I wish they would return to the old paint scheme and freaking make some sweet theming arond the area.
Admiral Ackbar
I think the station could have been better. Like it could have been alot more aircraft carrier like - especially if the whole area under it was a lake to simulate it being on water. They could also put the control booth up higher to make it look like an aircraft control tower.
Gordon Bombay
The original theming for the ride was desinged by the same man who designed the sets in the movie.

Admiral Ackbar
Well it could be chlorinated. Anaconda at PKD has a big lake on it - that is what I am talking about - something like that. Like have the whole ride over water. Now it wouldn't be practical for our TOP GUN - but I mean say PKD got a TOP GUN - since they don't have one. Then it would be cool for an Arrow Suspended like we have - with an Aircraft Carrier themed station complete with aircraft control tower and over water. I can dream can't I? Oh - and I thought of another tie in with our TOP GUN and the movie. When the coaster does that high banked turn over the station - that is Maverick and Goose "buzzing the tower"! I am sure someone else thought of that already - but it just occured to me...
