I remember the WAH and honestly it was not that impressive. Besides with the state of the art animal exhibts around today, PKI would need to spend way too much money to make the new WAH a worthwile attraction. Anyways I dont think they would ever do something on the lines of BuschGardens in Tampa, Animal Kingdom or even Sea World. Not to mention people in Ohio can go visit the WILDS which is a truly amazing animal exhibit.

Bringing back the WAH would be the biggest mistake and waste of money PKI could ever make.

Maybe you should get off the paramount sucks so bad train... Let us not pretend that Kings Island was flaw free before paramount.

I would much rather go to SeaWorld of ohio - may it rest in peices... than go to the wild animal habitat. WAH was a one trick pony. You pay to ride around in a monorail - woo hoo... IF pki was to consider something like that - to make it a worth while upcharge attration - for me, it would need to be something like SFWOA had....

But alas - paramount can do no good in some peoples' eyes

Yes, Paramount has made some mistakes at the park. But that is nothing new to the various owners of Kings Island. The parks in their last few years under Carl Lindner`s control weren`t in the greatest shape either. Other than the installation of Son of Beast, I feel Paramount has made some excellent decisions with new rides at the park, particularly Delirium, and Drop Zone to name a few. However, they have made a couple of poor choices with regards to removing rides, primarily the Flying Eagles and the Antique Cars, which they still have in a somewhat public view behind Delirium.

With regards to the Animal Habitat. As Cedar Fair stated when they bought GL from Six Flags, best to leave the animal business to those who are familiar with that business, zoos. Paramount Parks and PKI are amusement parks, not zoos. Yes, they used to have the animal habitats. But the capital, and upkeep requried for todays lifelike animal visits makes them too expensive for a seasonal park like PKI that would only be able to operate it seven months of the year.

You couldn't be more right! smile.gif

I am certain that Busch was pleased to sell the Ohio operation to Six Flags.

It is very difficult to make a seasonal theme park with animals work. Great Adventure does a great job of it in New Jersey, but then that park is sandwiched between two huge metro areas and can draw visitors from both...NY and Philly...

Yes, and that is why it works. Because it is located to a larger population area it can draw in more guests to offset the higher costs. Just look at baseball teams as an example. New York has two teams with huge payrolls and Philadelphia also has a team. Cincinnati has a team that in what is considered a small market because of the population that it pools from. (Heck, even with their hot start this April and the best record in Major League Baseball they have not gotten much national media attention yet.)

Atleast Paramount put money into the park and wasnt letting it rot with trash like KECO. How far back did WAH go? DOes anyone have an aerial map or blueprint?

Uhhhh, whatever ya say man.

Obviously ya weren't around then.

I am not so sure. If his profile is right, the man is 66 right now! smile.gif

Alas, although I hate to admit, I am 66 years old but PKI and amusent parks still bring out the kid in me. I've gone to KI atleast every year reguarly since its been open except from about 87-90 when I was living in England. I was only able to make the trip back to visit it about once those years when visitng family.

^Where you being sarcastic about that being impressive? laugh.gif Alton Towers is a very nice and very beautiful amusement park and that whole area has a rich and wonderful history worth studying. Back when I lived in ENgland though I only went maybe 5 times and it wasnt much to talk about but my last trip to Alton Towers was last year and its a very impressive amusement park. My favorite park in the U.K. though would definently be Chessington's World of Adventure home to one of my favorite coasters Vampire. I did get to ride it its first year before I moved and rode it back in 2002 the season after Vekoma made new trains for it. Its quite a fantastic ride! I've also been to Laronde many many times, Canada is my homeland although I spent most of my teen years and college years here in Ohio and am now an American citizen.

So are the European parks set up like the US parks. What do you see is better in the European parks and what is better in the US parks.

I think this could be educational for all of us.

You're able to give us a perspective that many of us don't have about parks.

If in the event a mass competitor such as Cedar Fair (Cedar Point) were to purchase the respectable P.K.I. They should come with the concept of reintroducing the zoological facility, WILD ANIMAL HABITAT. A previous successful breeding program, and display for the public. One that regretably had to be removed due to insurance reasons. As a result of a few rediculous occurances.

What they should consider however (to avoid such problems of the past) is create a park of splendor and have it be endorsed by the AZA. Which has procedures which should diminish any possibility of a repeat of the original. As a former associate of Paramount's Kings Island. And a student in Zoology. I would be willing to return to the park for work for just such an opening. I have discussed this topic with several other Zoo students, and graduates. Some of which have also worked for the park, and some of which DO work for the park, who would be willing to make a reintroduced ANIMAL HABITAT into their careers. What could happen is to take the facility of old, reintroduce it, and add onto it as well. Make a full size zoo out of it. Bring back the animal shows. Bring back the joys that were a part of Kings Island before it was ever Paramount's Kings Island. If P.K.I. was willing to work out and reform a bigger WinterFest.......Imagine a Newer, and Better, and Bigger...

WILD ANIMAL HABITAT.....

yeah i think they should bring it back for the little ones can have a feel of a theme park slash animal park i think they should put it in there behind the fof because they have a lot of room behind there and if they put it back in they should make it very safe more safer than it was.

They should tear down the Italian Job and at least put up a petting Zoo. It would at least look better.

Well,

I was Superviosor at WAH Carts the year that Amazon Falls opened up. I can tell ya that it was certainly busy in that area as a result of the new attraction. Top that off, Timberwolf had two to three concerts a week at that time and that brought about 10K folk into that area every evening.

Anyway, I digress. WAH was a very nice area to have in the park. The work that they did with the Cincinnati Zoo was very important. There were lots of studies completed on animal health and endangered animals. I remember when they were doing invitro work and KI could claim a couple firsts in that are.

You saw the change to Action Zone as a result of Paramount. They simply did not want to go in that direction.

Hi there. I was a monorail train driver in 1983 - I didn't take any pictures from those days - would you happen to have any -- I suppose I should look throught this topic, but I thought I would just ask. Thanks!

I really doubt that the noise would bother the animals.
