CoastersRZ
Now leave the moderating to us moderators. The reason they most likely canceled the Halloween event at Geauga Lake is probably, as others have stated, that it was not drawing in people and not making a profit. FearFest on the other hand has been a huge success. Especially since they started including it free with park admission and season passes. They get a ton of peopl up at the park for the nightly portion and all the games and restaurants always seem busy. I`m sure Kings Island makes a decent profit off of Fear Fest. Keep in mind that at the initial press conference about the sale, Dick Kinzel was not apparantly aware that the Paramount Parks had a Halloween event but expressed that they would definantely want to consider rolling out an event similar to HalloWeekends based on the success that they have had at Knott`s and Cedar Point. With that, I think it is safe to say that FearFest will be around for years to come.
The Interpreter
Or, the exact reverse: that he was WELL aware of FearFest and meant what he said about the Paramount Parks starting a Halloweekends type event.... It's hard to say. I tend to agree with you and think he was not aware of Fear Fest, but with all the due diligence before a deal is announced, I'm really not so sure how realistic that is. . . StXsteven
Cedar Fair will be spending alot of money retheming all the rides that came from movies but for some like tomb raider they may just remove all the details around the cave and take out the lights and call it something stupid like cave diver. I like that name! haha jp jp
The Interpreter
Perhaps not as far fetched as you think...after all, these are the same people who renamed Roadrunner Express at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure as Geauga Lake's Beaver Land Mine Ride! Captain Picard
After going to the point today they changed some rules from my last trip. They make you take off glasses now and I was never asked to before. I guess this will be coming to PKI next.

Reclaimer
Haha...you might want to edit your post to say something along the lines of "Unless you have a strap on them you can wear them." I read your post and my mouth dropped
The Interpreter
And then at Knotts Berry Farm, they don't care if you do have a strap on, you still ain't riding with no glasses! Period. Yet another reason I avoid that 'wonderful' park.
KIBeast
Reclaimer, that is hilarious! I read that and thought the same thing. Gotta be careful how you word things around here being a family site and all.
Gordon Bombay
Ahhh, cut him some slack, it was an honest mistake and he probably doesnt know what the object in question is. I read what you wrote Paul and understood what you meant ride away. As far as I know at PKI they dont make you take glasses off, where were you told to Cpt. Picard? I rode many rides the other day with my sunglasses on.

I got to the TTD line and they wouldn't let me in line with them, had to put in a locker. I never had to take them off before anytime there for anything. It's no big deal but nice to know before you go.
Reclaimer
Ahhh, cut him some slack, it was an honest mistake and he probably doesnt know what the object in question is. Ah, come on. It was a joke! I laughed...it was funny. (haha, funny...you know, those types of things) There was no big deal made of the comment. Keeping with the topic...someone recently was escorted out of the park at CP for refusing to take off his glasses to get in line for TTD. He became irate, supposedly, and was acting like a complete fool.
king_cobra_27
Of course Cedar Fair is going to make changes. They have pulled the plug for WinterFest, at least for the 2006 season. They have made the final decision that Paramount's new attraction for 2007 will be risen into reality. At Paramounts Kings Dominion, "Flight of Fear" which has been closed all year, and rumored to be for sale or actually for sale ( whatever ) is getting a makeover and is supposed to actually be up and running before the end of August. This owner has made a decision to correct the issue with Son of Beast, and they are also correcting an issue ( less serious) with "Volcano" at Kings Dominion. Associate handbooks have already been issued to upper management at paramounts Kings Island, and probably the other parks as well. The parks hold their current essence on cedarfair.com and Cedar Fair has announced that the two sister parks Kings Island and Kings Dominion will keep their names. FearFest is supposed to get an upgrade, and Cedar Fair has announced that even though a season pass for the 06 season is not going to occur, a season pass to Cedar Point and Kings Island is in the making for 2007. People are complaining about not getting free parking included with the early purchase of a season pass to Kings Island for 2007. WELL JUST WAIT A LITTLE LONGER AND UPGRADE THAT PARKING PASS WITH Cedar Point ADMISSION. Cedar Fair management is also very present at the park itself. Give them time.......They will make Kings Island what it used to be. The way that a lot of people are too young to remember. If they do this, and I am sure that this company will. You will never look back at Paramount. K.C. <-- Look out for Maverick
CoastersRZ
Well, as far as the parking pass issue, since Cedar Fair hasn`t announced the season pass program, you don`t know how the parking pass to Kings Island will work. Secondly, while it is assumed that they will fix the issues with Son of Beast, they have not said that they intend to reopen the ride, it could theoretically meet the wrecking ball (although highly unlikely). Thirdly, Volcano: The Blast Coaster has since reopened from its incident. And Flight of Fear at Kings Dominion was never rumored to be for sale. It was rumored to be shipped off to Paramount Canada`s Wonderland as a new attraction up there as part of a new ride rotation program. If that install up there worked well, then PKI`s would follow suit and head down to Carowinds. But since Cedar Fair took over, those plans most likely have been scrapped. westcoaster
Ride Rotation plan stinks: We need to keep the rides we got and keep adding to them Look at Cedar Point less land though they keep rides:
CoastersRZ
Well, I think it is generaly agreed upon that any such "ride rotation program" that was planned under CBS management is up in the air. It will be interesting to see what new capital expansion plans are going to show up at the five Paramount Parks for next season.
KIBeast
^Yeah, I wonder when Cedar Fair will announce capital expenditures for the formerly Paramount Parks?
Vortex
I guess they will do that when they start to sell season passes for next year. I would like to know if Kings Island will be getting before I renew my pass for next year.
Captain Picard
Knowing it takes 2 or 3 years to plan a new attraction and knowing that CBS wasn't going to put much money into it. I wouldn't expect anything that will make your pass buying decisions for you.
CoastersRZ
Well, in the conference call, Dick Kinzel said that as is typical with Cedar Fair, they would be announcing the capital expenditures at the parks in the early part of the fall. So we might glean more information in September or October. But as has been said time and time again, do not expect much in the way of blockbuster new ride in 2007. Yes, Kings Island may get a new flat ride, but don`t expect much more than that.

I don't want to get too technical, but it does take two or three years to plan a ride, and as such, we'd be seeing something the park was planning under Viacom's reign. Of course, who knows...CBS could've seen the cost when they took over the park and gave the original idea the axe in favor of a new bathroom or something. spngbob
Theres already been some changes under Cedar Fair.. mostly only employees would notice.. To save money they scrapped straws for Coke unless u ask for it... They got very strict on wardrobe and people stood at the gate to make sure your shirts were tucked in and you wre in full uniform (even though ur not even clocked in, even if your shirts in a bag ) You dont have to wear your ID as a name tag anymore Theyre verrry clean.. If you see someone from Cedar walking around hte park they will stop to pick up a smoked cigarette and throw it away.. (an associate should do that but I mean something so small lol) Uhh I forget what else but I do know that a food location could be changing and possibly a new food stand addition And thought I'd just throw this one in, in the morning the GM rides a go kart around sometimes and I'm annoyed that I have to walk (and take huge detours because theyre so important that I cant walk by their office anymore )

CoastersRZ
Yeah, I find that kind of funny how they have place signs up saying what is not an employee entrance to the park because it passes by the GM`s office. The ironic thing is that on an ACE walkback a couple weeks ago, we avoided the throngs of guest that were waiting for the ropes to drop by the ACE brick and went into the park through this very entrance! The previous time, I was on the ACE walkback we had simply entered the park from the door next to the first aid carts. And I`m sure that something in the form of capital expansions is planned for next year.
Reclaimer
I may have missed it somewhere, but did CF put in a new GM or is Fisher or whoever still around?
CoastersNSich
Greg Scheid is now Vice President and General Manager of Kings Island. Not sure about Craig Ross or Tim Fisher, though.
CoastersRZ
Yep, CoastersNSich got it right. Grege Scheid is in fact the new GM and Executive Vice President of Kings Island, according to this press release. He was previousely the general manager at Dorney Park.
