The tickets are no longer available on the site nor at the front gate for whatever reason but sources at the Park say that they will be available later in the season. The park hasnt said anything since the official sale about Winterfest.....my guess is that this might be the first indication that Cedar Fair is not going to continue Winterfest. It was CP's first, and needless to say, last Christmas/holiday event. from PointBuzz: • "Christmas in the Park" is held for the first and last time. The Midway Carousel, Park Plaza, and Sweets n' Treats were open for the event. A horse drawn carriage touring behind the scenes at the park, area choirs, Christmas music, Santa in a Magnum car, and a Christmas tree on the midway were also part of the festivities. Hours of operations were: Monday - Saturday, 11 AM - 8 PM; Sunday 12 PM - 5 PM; Christmas Eve, 11 AM - 3PM; Christmas Day, closed. The event ended December 30 (December 10) Why it failed: Sandusky has worse winters than Southern Ohio, and not as many people surrounding Cedar Point close by as Kings Island does. Plus, think about it: such an event works better in a theme park layout of KI than the amusement/midway format CP is. This is not to necessarily say whether or not WinterFest is coming back, which I think it should. It would be a good way for Cedar Fair to carry on the "Kings Island legacy." And the only way to be fair to those who have already bought tickets is to manufacture new tickets that are significantly different than the current tix under Paramount, and reimburse those who have already purchased tickets with eithermore Winterfest tickets, or credit towards 2007 park tickets. ... or Winterfest is cancelled. Given the chance to thrive with the right conditions, I think it could make money, but I don`t know the exact numbers of last year`s event. I mean look at FearFest, it started out with a lack of attendance problem. but when they included it with park admission, the thing was packed. Granted, all the rides aren`t open for WinterFest, but getting season pass holders through the gate for free would surely entice them to spend money on hot chocolate, to pay the ice skating fee, to buy that sit down dinner in the Festhaus. The Interpreter Posted July 7, 2006 Share Posted July 7, 2006 Remember, if Cedar Fair is going to make any major changes in the Paramount Parks (especially if they engage in de-Paramountization), they will want and need this downtime to make changes, and without the watchful eyes or distraction of WinterFest. And, making a net profit is going to be drastically important to the chain, now that they have the watchful eyes of lenders overlooking all that they do. We could see Winterfest disappear this year so CF can make their changes, especially if they're major (de-themeing, de-Paramountization, etc.). If Winterfest is a no-go this year, I'd bet that's the reason, as I'm sure Cedar Fair wouldn't mind giving it a chance. We may see it in '07. So if Winterfest retailed for $9.99 like Holidayfest or the Festival of Lights, it would cheapen the product to be on that level when in all reality Winterfest encompassed a lot more than those events. Not unlike regular amusement park tickets, the average person finds a better value online or through different venders most of the time. What came back to bite them was when newspapers and magazines compared the events to eachother and made it look like Winterfest cost more than double the others, which wasn't the entire story. Age and Weight is a good place to put some of that stuff that maybe not have gone over so well during winterfest. Lord, they honestly should have hired me or anyone that had worked a Winterfest to run the event. It's such an absolutely simple concept. They Blew It. I explained prior to the event how it was being blown. Then the geniuses that made the decisions all decided what anyone with any common sense knew, were right. But I fear that its triumphant return it made last season will be short lived. As of the June 28th newsletter, they were still selling WinterFest tickets at the price of $9.99 (which they state was a limited time offer). Granted that was before the sale to Cedar Fair closed. Dalefan Posted July 8, 2006 Share Posted July 8, 2006 I was at a Q&A thing at CoasterMania this year and it was said that no changes will be made ot the park this year as far as major things. And as far as Winterfest goes it was said by the park that it went real well which is the reason they are having it this year hopefully. When i was at Winterfest i saw alot of people at the park. It was like a normal day in the summer. It should go on this year to see if they do anything and then see if they should have it next year. They will loose money of they dont have it as it was said in a ad. As far as the Paramount name and the Nick name go, they will still keep the Nick name for the rest of the contract which is 4 years and the Paramount name they will either keep or buy out the name. The Paramount name if they keep it is 10 more years. They need to keep the themeing to the rides and call it a different name that goes with the themeing. They wont have alot of name changing cause the only rides that have the paramount name were the ones that were build after Paramount took over. Which wasnt alot. And it didnt take too long for them to change things over at Geauga Lake when they took over very close to the season opening. When you have alot of stuff left over from last season alot of parks instead of letting sit they sell it some how and get new stuff that isnt old or anything. Or make money off of it and use it for new things. They need to have tv ads for Winterfest if they have it to tell people about the event. This will bring more people in from all around.
