CoasterXtreme
I have heard again from a good source that the old International Restaurant will be turned in to a TGI Fridays in the up coming season. I really hope this happens, we really need a nice sit down place to eat.
The Interpreter
Oh, my. I wonder if that means Wings becomes Famous Dave's... --The Interpreter, only half kidding (and hoping Bubba Gumps becomes The Bay Harbor Inn!)
CoasterXtreme
YUMMY! That would be AWESOME! Dave's and TGI Fridays....I am in heaven!
PhantomTheater
Kings Island does need a True sit down resturauant to relax in. It is missing that to its bill of faire. Im sure its a fantastic view from up there at night.
CoastersNSich
Oh, my. I wonder if that means Wings becomes Famous Dave's... --The Interpreter, only half kidding (and hoping Bubba Gumps becomes The Bay Harbor Inn!) Why didn't I think of that?! I had a great meal at their Cedar Point Marina location, as well as some of their food at a Listener Lunch in West Chester this past week! CoastersRZ
I think a TGI Fridays could make some sense in the International Restaurant. The issue would become what happens on days when the park is not open to the general public. Is the one up at the Cedar Point resort area open year round? Also, what would happen to the event that the park likes to have up there (ie company events, media events, etc.)? I too think that a nice sitdown restaurant with a picturesque view such as the International Restaurant location would be widely popular. But they would surely have to renovate the kitchen area as well as add in an ADA compliant elevator.
WooferBearATL
The location is probably Grandfathered as far as ADA. No elevator would be needed. Just think how exciting it will be to not have to drive down one exit to actually get to another Fridays! Maybe they can install a McDonalds or a Wendy's as well! Heck, that 2 mile drive up the road could be such a hastle! <G>
CoasterXtreme
No Mc Donalds or Wendy's but I also could see Johnny Rockets in Coney Mall area.
Browntggrr
Is the one up at the Cedar Point resort area open year round? Well there are actually 2 Fridays at CP. One is in Hotel Breakers which is not open year round; but it does have the one day sales record of any Fridays (I believe it was on a Saturday during 4th of July weekend). The other is at Castaway Bay which is open year round. Not having a traditional sit down restaraunt is one of my biggest complaints about what Paramount has done to KI. Having a Fridays come into the park would be a great move, but I am not sold on the idea that it should go where IR was. It seems kind of small for a full Fridays to occupy. But anything is better than nothing at this point.
Browntggrr
The location is probably Grandfathered as far as ADA. No elevator would be needed. For any public venue, they are grandfathered not being ADA complient, unless there is major renovations done. If Fridays were to occupy IR, they would certainly put up some serious money to renovate it. And even at that, in the whole grands scheme of things, installing a elevator would not cost as much as you would think.
WooferBearATL
The issue with the location of an elevator would be where to put it. Unless you've been up there you don't realize how limited that the space is and that ever inch is well utilized. But it blows me away that people would be talking about adding a Fridays to the park. Maybe someone can explain to me why you would want to add a restaurant that you can find anywhere else in the area?
KIfan73
That sounds like a great idea. Do they serve breakfast?
Browntggrr
Maybe someone can explain to me why you would want to add a restaurant that you can find anywhere else in the area? The same reason that there is a Skyline Chili in the park. It is a very popular restaurant, and being on location, people do not have to leave the park to eat. Many out of town guests feel more comfortable at an eatery that they are familiar with, and Fridays certainly fits that description. It would really be a nice addition to the park. Fridays does have a breakfast menu, but if it would open for breakfast is another question. Most Fridays only serve breakfast on Sundays until 1:00pm, but the Fridays at CP in Hotel Breakers serve breakfast everyday for the resort guests. The Interpreter
Why do you all persist in thinking that the International Street Restaurant is grandfathered under the ADA? It is NOT a public venue. It has not been open to the public for many, many years now. There are large groups of people who go around the country just looking for places to file lawsuits under the ADA. Not to mention that NOT providing access to ALL the public is not smart. Not just because it MIGHT be a violation of the ADA (and it might), but also because it is not the right thing to do, is horrid PR and, in my humble opinion, is immoral. What if it was YOUR mother or son who wanted to eat with you and couldn't make it up the steps? Well????
WooferBearATL
I guess they'd have to eat at any of the dozens of other places around the park. The International Restaurant has just over one story of stairs to get to the restaurant. The apartment building I live in has three flights with no elevator. Now someone may want to live on the top floor but not be able to make it. Suppose they'd have to live on the bottom floor, ethhh?
Browntggrr
The error there is that Skyline and LaRosas are local entities. Since there are Skyline Chili locations in Florida and Michigan as well as local states like Kentucky and Indiana I did not consider them to be just a local entity now. http://www.skylinechili.com/skyline_locations_main.php
The Interpreter
But...if the building had been closed to the public for many years, and it was rehabilitated for new renters, guess what? If there were major expenses in rehabbing it, an elevator would have to be provided. Landlords aren't amused by this. The purpose of the ADA is to stop the attitude of "THEY will just have to go somewhere else." Someday "THEY" could be you. I'm done with this part of this discussion, but let me assure you....there is no way International Street Restaurant can reopen to the public without access changes. There is a reason that for the last several years it has been open only for private functions. The attitude used to be THEY don't belong on amusement rides either. . .but that opens up a whole nother can of worms about what is and is not practical...or even safe.
jzarley
As someone who spent most of his career in the hotel business (an industry that has spent BILLIONS on ADA compliance), let me just chime in to say that the International Restaurant would have to be brought into ADA compliance if it were to open again. Companies that I worked for had tens of thousands of hotel rooms that were built many years before ADA...were they grandfathered? Absolutely not...a hotel built in 1970 had to be brought up to compliance just like any newly built property. The thing I don't understand is why CF insists on buying franchises...they're big enough to develop their own independent brands. Why pay a franchisor 7-9% off the top? I think this is particularly true for their hotels...it makes no sense to me why CF would be a Raddison franchisee, when they already have the reservations network and other operations infrastructure in house... I consider them a local entity and I know that the company considers itself local as well. I once approaced the company about franchising in Atlanta and was told that Atlanta is too far from the commisary and that they would not consider this. You may want to check back about your possible franchise in the Atlanta area, especially since Fort Lauderdale is 639 miles farther away from Cincy than Atlanta. http://www.skylinechili.com/skyline_franchise.php Copied from the bottom of the franchise information screen: Skyline Chili, Inc. is currently franchising in the states of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania (western), West Virginia and Florida. (As other states are added, they will be posted to this site.) Skyline Chili, Inc. does not currently offer franchises outside the United States of America or in (or to residents of) the following states within the United States: California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington or Wisconsin. Nothing herein is intended to constitute an offer of the sale of franchises anywhere outside the United States of America or within or to the residents of the foregoing states within the United States of America. The Interpreter
Skyline overexpanded into Florida and DC about 15 years ago, with disastrous results. They are just now going back into Florida. Gold Star seems to have learned from that experience, as well. They say they are not interested in franchising either, except in very limited areas adjacent to their current markets. And a franchisee in London, Kentucky just went under in the past year...

jzarley
^ So, imitate the concept and develop your own brand (it's not like chili on spaghetti is patented or anything ) There is a restaurant (at least there used to be...not sure if it is still there) in Alexandria, VA on King Street that specialized in all types of chili...Cincy style, Texas style, etc. It was a pretty cool place. Wooferbear...off topic, but are there still "Semolina" resturants (I think that is the correct name) in the Atlanta market? I loved that place...all different varieties of pasta put to different cuisines. My favorite was the Chicken Enchilada Pasta!!
CoastersRZ
Well, Skyline has had a store in Clearwater Florida for quite some time. My sister ad parents actually ate there when we were in Florida two years ago. Apparantly, it is a big hit down there. In part because a lot of Cincinnatians retire down in Florida.
WooferBearATL
Not familiar with Semolina and I know a lot of restaurants. In Atlanta you can have authentic ethnic food of every variety. But it is difficult to find some foods. Which brings me to a subject! Why not put a restaurant like Magianno's or Buca De Bepo into the park. Big family size portions and very friendly towards large groups. More so than Friday's I'd say!
jzarley
It was a small chain (maybe only a few in the Atlanta market). I think there was one in Marietta, and one further north in Swanee (I know I'm spelling that wrong...)

I spent a few months there on a project a few years back...a LONG few months (Let's just say I drove down into Atlanta quite frequently...) There is what we call ITP and OTP. (Inside the Perimeter and Outside the Perimeter) Imagine if you put anything that you would ever need inside the 275 Beltway and that's what it's like in Atlanta. But then imagine having almost 5 Million people within the 275 Beltway as well. <G>
