Mikewhy
I'd argue that the demographic of PKI has changed since 1992, when Winterfest was held before the long hiatus. Back then, there were many attractions that more passive guests, such as seniors, and even very young children - those that couldn't do most rides - could enjoy at Kings Island. For example, animal shows, the Wild Animal Habitat monorail, a wider variety of unique shopping, and many shows. And Winterfest definitely was made for this demographic - lots of shows, great shopping, and gentle rides like the Carousel and KI&MV RR - but no coasters or thrill rides. Within a few years, under Paramount, the amount of stuff to do for this category sharply declined, more in favor of the majority of guests. This move may have helped the park better compete, turned away a demographic that was small, yet still important. I agree with this logic completely. With the closing of all those passive attractions, it did change the nature of Kings Island and made it harder for Winterfest to continue. Very wise post! I was one of the few who enjoyed the event and did not feel the money was unreasonable. But I knew many did feel it was overpriced. I will miss the event strongly and hope it returns on day... marlfox_21
I feel that this is probably to make necessary changes of the park during the off season. After all, it is a lot of work to set up for FearFest, tear down FearFest, and then set up for WinterFest and then Tear Down WinterFest, followed by pre-season set up. THAT'S A WHOLE LOT OF WORK!!!!! Chances are that the park is going to use the available down time, post-season to make the transformation into what will hopefully be known as simply..... Kings Island And after all, they did not announce that WinterFest would be cancelled permanently. The way that Paramount did back in 1992. It is kinda sad though. This was the 1st move Paramount made when they bought out the park. They were the original Grinch to steal Christmas. Had they kept the tradition going, most people would have more fond memories of attending this event every year. And the event would have diehard fans that would most certainly attend every year. ( I think that they accomplished this last year ) I do hope that Cedar Fair brings it back in 2007. Or surprises us all with something else in 2006! Either way, if they bring it back in the future, I will most certainly attend the park for the event. And I will Attend the Cincinnati Zoo's "Festival of Lights" and The Beach Waterparks "HolidayFest"
beastfan11
i will also go to those winter events..... its really sad that they only gave winterfest one chance..so IF Cedar Fair has sumthin to do with it i wont be happy i just hope that the cancelation of winter fest will mean that fearfest will be even bigger, badder, and scary than in the years past i really loved winter fest tho
Vortex
Well I guess this will give the park more the to get things done. I went to opening day at Kings Island this year and the park just looked very bad. I don't think we are getting a new coaster or you would have saw the dirt or markers around the park. When was the last time the park got nothing big?
italianchef
I understand that some of us are upset because WinterFest was canceled. But PLEASE realize that Cedar Fair just purchased Kings Island and needs to make changes. CF desperately needs the down time to assimulate Kings Island, the other 4 former Paramount Parks, Bonfante Gardens, and Star Trek: The Experience into their company. The decision was not made to be mean spirited or cheap, but to be practical. Changes must be made to Kings Island and the other parks and the off-season is the only time to do it. Have a great day! WooferBearATL
First We Had The Paramount that Stole Christmas! Now There's the Cedar Fair that Stole Christmas! I'm beginning to think they signed the sale papers with a Bah Humbug. <G>
Reclaimer
Just got an email back from our favorite person at the park with the following comment: "It's hard to say if Cedar Fair will bring it back in the future.....we'll never say never but I would say that it is unlikely!" ...so don't hold your breath. Reclaimer
Prepare to be sad. ...you know, it's not all about coasters. Sure, they're awesome, but flats and family attractions are also great..especially from a revenue standpoint in the park's eyes.
screamingnight
Couldnt KI just make one more HUGE coaster that can break records? Just one more!

Purplehaze
i am sad there will be no winterfest, but then again on the other hand i cant imagine the crap that has to be done to prepare for next year, especially if they ditch the paramount name, merchandising, signs, uniforms, are just a few to name a thousand little things

I loved WinterFest growing up, and when I flew home to Ohio last year for Christmas, WinterFest was on my TO DO list. I was hoping for it this year too. It's really sad. It was a great event. And I am very grateful now to have gotten to go to this event last year. ( I am also very grateful to have had a miniD.V.D. recorder to capture the event. ) I've got a great d.v.d. of the Eiffel Tower Being Lit along with the Fountain!!!!! I kinda wish that I had purchased more souvenirs now. It's sad to me, because I always put in a word for WinterFest every year when the park requested associate opinions towards the end of the operating season as to ( what you think could make the park better ) I always listed a reborn WinterFest....... And in whatever ways possible, I will continue to do this in the future. We should start a forum that people should ONLY enter if they desire to bring WinterFest back. A form of a web Petition. Click on the yes, I want WinterFest brought back, followed by signing your true name. Then have the petition sent forth to Cedar Fair. Only this should be a protected site. Just a thought.
