Lights out for School of Rock & Nickelodeon Parade

The school of rock cast was informed today on their last performance day that this show will not be coming back next season, and that the Nickelodeon parade would not be back as well. So, out with Rock N Roll and in with Snoopy on Ice. Next season sure will be full of changes, that is for sure.

Thats sad. However I have a great idea to make Snoopy on Ice more of a fan favorite:

Give all kids who enter the theatre a slingshot with 5 pellets. Then, have Snoopy go around with a target on his back. Whoever hits a bulls-eye gets a toy!

I have never seen a live show at Kings Island. I will not support the live entertainment of any organization that does not support all forms of lodging! laugh.gif

No not really - I just never got around to it. Maybe well get a dive show or something. I will miss the parade though.

I kind of surprised that the parade will not be back. It sure seems like a very popular feature at the parks when it is at each park. Of course, it could just be a marketing ploy so that they have something to hype up next spring when the park is gearing up for another year.

I had some of that cotton candy last time I was up there. It was pretty good. I also had an Icee and Pretzel too - and thats all I had to eat the whole day!

Next time you MUST try the frozen custard...it is among the best in the entire park business, and very reasonably priced too. Best location is up front on the midway...

I've got a bad feeling that next year the park will see a big drop in attendance, now that School of Rock and the Nick Parade are gone, two of the BEST shows ever produced at Kings Island. dry.gif

Not to mention the threat of having the theming on IJ, Tomb Raider, and Flight of Fear diminished to "Cedar Fair standards".

But I guess no one cares, now that everyone's crossing their fingers for a 300-foot Beemer or Intamin Rocket to ruin the skyline of the park and destroy an entire forest, instead of listening to some live rock 'n' roll or watching a really cool parade. dry.gif

Well, if it is true that the Nick parade is not returning, that is ashame. But I also highly doubt that the park will not replace any of the live entertainment with new shows, and maybe a new parade. I can`t imagine that they would ditch the Nick Parade in favor of a Peanuts themed parade, simply because of the immense popularity of Nick right now. And I doubt we will see a complete stripping of all references to Paramount for next season. Why not spread out some of the costs of transition over several years, which would also make it easier for the full time staff at the park to give them more time. It will certainly be an interesting off season at the park.

Yeah the sad thing is the shows arnt that good for PARAMOUNT PICTURES! You would think that PP would have the best shows in the indusrty but who knows. I dont see attendance dropping at all bc of a few reasons.

1:we will get alot of people who go to Cedar Point regularly go to KI.

2:Season passes are cheaper

3:they should add a new ride next year and market it really good.

4:They will lower admission cost.

Ummm....actually let me clear something up here. And trust me.....anyone on this board that knows me, knows that when it comes to entertainment I know what I am talking about wink.gif

1) The cast of School of Rock was never told any of that information. They were told that they were the last cast of School of Rock, yes. But that is a given, That show was a 2 year show, everyone knew that it would not be returning next year.

2) Plans for the Nick Parade have NOT been finalized either way yet. Cedar Fair does not know if they would like to return the parade for the 4th year yet. They have not said that it will not be returning, and they have not said that it will be. So we are still waiting for the decision to be made on that.

3) As far as the ice show goes......that is purely speculation at this point. It does seem logical that Cedar Fair would incorporate their Ice Show into the Paramount Theater (or whatever it will be called). And there has been some activity around the theater that could show signs of them looking into the possiblity/fesability. But again, nothing official has come down from Cedar Fair regarding that. Plus....if they are seriously thinking about doing a show like that, then they have some major work ahead of them.....there are a lot of things about that theater that need to be changed in order to allow for that type of show to happen, they better get their checkbook out $$$$$

I agree 100% with shman, the closing of the show is a given, shows never last with the exception of the past ice shows....you might get a couple of years out of a show with a few changes in the show each year..... I worked in entertainment at pki for a few years as a tech and also as a performer. There will be new shows next year i just hope they have alot more, such as in the mid 90's they had good shows at International Showplace, back stage, nick theatre, paramount theater, festhause, even star trek whos green room was behind festhause...

Alot if people dont like live shows, they prefer the rides only which is fine, but live shows are a big part of a theme or amusment parks atmosphere!

I saw the original parade. It was pretty enjoyable. But nowhere near Disney calibur. So why bother. I think that this is a sign that the nick characters might not live long past their contract. Of course, that is just a hunch. But School of Rock being one of their best shows ever? I seriously would have to contend with that.

The shows that were put on before the cancer of Paramount graced the stand were far better. I truly hope that Cedar Fair finally hires some truly talented people to perform good shows instead of the usual people who think that they are talented, but we'll use them because nobody else will do it crowd, and have them perform an already bad show.

Adding some moral values to the purpose of the shows would not hurt either.

The cancer that is Paramount? Granted some things that Paramount did weren`t the smartest, but under their stewardship, the parks rebounded from the lat 80`s.

The real reason why the live entertainment is not high caliber has been the fact that they would have to pay to bring in higher quality performers. Which is why places like Disney and Dollywood have better shows. They pay more. In fact, one of the stars from School of Rock last year got a job down at Disney World.

And I highly doubt that Cedar Fair has made their mind up on the Nick Parade returning for next year or not. But if they do scrap it, it does not by any means mean that they do not intend to keep Nickelodeon around for some time to come.

Personally I loved the Nick Parade, it shortened the lines a good 5 monutes for most of the rides.

School of Rock show was okay, but I wouldn't say it was anything special.

I love Snoopy, who doesn't? Yeah he can't compete with the popularity of Scooby, but Snoopy looks cooler IMO and if they had one walking arund the park the kids would love it jus as much. But thats just my opinion.

While I'm definitely disappointed that the Nick Parade may not be returning, I hardly see this as a reason to see a drastic drop in Park attendance. Big deal? Why does the theming on ANY of those rides have to go away? Outside of the pre-show on Tomb Raider, the theming really doesn't have anything to do with the rides. Italian Job is just some mini coopers, street signs and a helicopter. Come on. Not like it matters anyway, none of the stuff works for the most part.

As for ruining the skyline and destroying an entire forest? What are you smoking? Have you been living under a rock to NOT have noticed how much beauty PARAMOUNT destroyed with your beloved Italian Job? Paramount has done MORE in the past 10 years to destroy any beauty and atmosphere that Kings Island had left. I don't see 300 foot coasters as something to ruin the skyline. Quite honestly, its a beautiful beautiful sight to drive along the peninsula as you approach CP. What exactly are Cedar Fair's standards with theming? I didn't think they had any since they don't run theme parks...only amusement parks. Again, not like the theming on any of the rides you mentioned play a big factor into the ride experience these days.
