June 16, 200422 yr Ok all I know about The Bat is that it was at KI, but what happened to it, why was it removed/dismanteled, did anyone die on it or what? If someone could please just fill me in I would greatly appreciate it
June 16, 200422 yr The reason they took it out is simple...it broke all the time. For every day it was open, it was closed 2. It was a suspended coaster, like Top Gun, but unlike Top Gun, the track wasn't banked. This caused a lot of stress on the trains, and it became too much of a hassle for the park, and they took it out at the end of the 83 season.
June 16, 200422 yr It was removed due to poor design and maintainance issues. The track on The Bat was not banked as it is on Top Gun, thus causing wear and tear on the shocks. It was plagued with problems and was removed. No one ever died from The Bat.
June 16, 200422 yr Author I did hear though that The Bat crashed into the drivers box or something to that effect. Is that true or is it just another wonderful rumor??
June 16, 200422 yr Another issue were the brakes. As you can see in this pic Bat Brakes the brakes are located on the bottom of the train. This caused excessive wear and tear, just like the shocks that were perviously mentioned. Another poor design that was later rectified for other suspended coasters. I would love to see another park build a replica of The Bat- with the current modifications. The footprint looks amazing.
June 16, 200422 yr I hear that all the time people died on The Bat thats why they took it out which is untrue but I hear when The Bat was up and running it was a blast to ride. As for the other thing I hear almost all the time they took out The Wild Animal Safari because of a lion attacked a worker.Which has somewhat truth to it....
June 16, 200422 yr No one was ever seriously injured on The Bat. And they took out the Wild Animal Safari because the animals were dieing out.
June 16, 200422 yr Someone said something about a footprint, does anyone have the footprint and layout of the ride?

June 17, 200422 yr I was one of the fortunate to have been on The Bat. It was an awesome coaster. I especially liked The Bat Trains. And, I have to agree with Browntggr that I would like to see it return as it was a much better ride than Top Gun. As for the other thing I hear almost all the time they took out The Wild Animal Safari because of a lion attacked a worker.Which has somewhat truth to it.... A lion did attack a worker which would make it totally true, not somewhat true. That was the reason that they took out the Wild Animal Safari, not because they were dying out. When animals die, you just replace them with more, not shut down the ride.

When animals die, you just replace them with more, not shut down the ride. The older animals were dying out, and the cost of replacing them was too much.
June 17, 200422 yr I heard a worker was feeding a lion and the lion bit his arm off while he was feeding him.

Yes a lion killed a worker BUT they took it out because the animals were 1. were a lotta money to replace 2.Food...that stuff isnt cheap!
June 21, 200422 yr The older animals were dying out, and the cost of replacing them was too much. That makes sense, yet it doesn't. They had to have known ahead of time what the cost to replace the animals and feeding them would be. So, how does it all of a sudden become too expensive to maintain? Just trying to make sense out of it. Maybe it was more expensive than they had planned. You know they at least already planned for the expense of feeding and caring for them.
June 21, 200422 yr I wasn't even born when The Bat was around but it looks really kewl better then top gun.
June 22, 200422 yr I have on one of my Computers here, a picture someone made in Maya or AutoCAD of The Bat Layout. Its REALLY AWesome. Ill try to find it. m@Ilman
June 22, 200422 yr I rode The Bat back in 1982 and I don't think I'm dead. I think. Oh, I've got a bunch of Bat photos here if you're interested.
June 23, 200422 yr Author Wow ok now i wish they would redo The Bat, that thing looks bad @$$ and so much better than top gun
