I was at the park on Saturday, and they were one train at IJ when it was launched looked like it wasn't going to make it all the way around the helix. When the train got to the top it looked like it was about to roll back. When we got on the ride, we happen to get on that train, and boy was it going slow at the top. The other 2 trains were not doing this. Anyone else happen to see this? What could have caused this? Thanks.

He said that one of the trains was built at the park and not at Premier's fabricators, and it was heavier, so it has problems when its cold or windy.

That's all I know, I don't know how that makes it heavier, but I have seen one of the trains parked on the transfer several times on windy days.

Why would one of trains be heavier then the others? Wouldn't they all be the same? This is first time I ever noticed one train going slower then the others.

I noticed this too. Do they have rollback spikes at the top to prevent the train from rolling back down the helix?

I dont know if anyoen remembers from back in 2005 when there was a fire at one of the plants where the trains were being assembled. But, on the IJST construction tour the question was posed to Seibert and he said that the fire had not damaged, but delayed production of the trains. Three were originally sent to PCW, two to PKI. One of the three was moved from PCW to PKI so each would have two. Premeir was able to finish the third train for each park on time for their rides to open to the public. PKI doesnt have the facilities to construct a new train even if they had the blue prints, they could assemble it though as long as Premeir had fabricated it. As far as I know, all three trains are the same, except for one which has a special door on its white car to allow easier acess for persons with certain dissabilities. I remember the question was also asked to Seibert about temprature and wind and what the computer of the ride would display. As far as what I remember what he said and from the requirements I remember from working there, the only real weather condition that had a major effect on IJ was the cold (excluding the general ones for all rides like rain, hail, lightning etc.) The steel coasters can not run in colder temps that the wooden coasters are allowed to. I know Todd, hes a great guy and an excellent employee, but most of the time the rumors that fly around that rides dept. are just as good and bad as the rumors on here or those other sites. All 3 trains are probably the same but maybe someone from tech services could answer us since they repaired the audio systems........oh wait.....they didnt. It's strange how PKD's and PCW's audio works.

Nope, in the event of a rollback, it will come to a stop in the launch track. It's lined with brakes for just that reason.

...and I can testify to that. Nope, never got a rollback on Top Thrill Dragster or on Kingda Ka (though I'd love to on either...), but I have rolled back on Italian Job and on Volcano: The Blast Coaster. Much more fun on Volcano, I might add....but then, everything is fun on Volcano!

Ha, so what were your thoughts as you were rolling back through the helix and did they launch you again or did they reload the train with less weight?

Honestly?

Okay...."So I finally get a rollback at Kings Island and it's on THIS thing!!"

And they just launched us again.

No drama.

It was kind of funny during the incomplete launch though, as we neared the top it got slower and slower and slower and then stopped for about two seconds, then slowly started rolling back and picked up speed...a woman in the back shrieked as if she had seen a ghost, and some little kid yelled "Shut up, we are all going to live!"

Ahhh.....Volcano roll backs are loads of fun! I've been on two, one of which was when it opened and was only running with 8 passenger trains :-) To the original poster, I was there on Saturday night. We hopped on IJ right as the Park was closing. I noticed the train in question. The one time it almost rolled back, it stalled for several seconds at the top of the helix. We ended up on that train. It was definitely VERY slow at the top, which resulted in a slow ride after and pretty eventless. Anyone know why the fire wasn't working Saturday? Thats the first time I've ever seen it not in operation?

I have been on TTF when it almost had a rollback. we got to the top and i could see everything in the park and even turned my head to look around. It was pa pretty slow creep over the top. I think that is how it needs to be to get a better view and intensify the ride. WHat is the lowest temperature that it will not operate under because last year it was about 56 degrees and they had 2 trains running.
