2011Beast Posted February 22, 2007 Share Posted February 22, 2007 Hey, I've heard a few times that on international street on top of the stores and shops on both the left and right side the seccond floors were the windows are that its used for storage or parts of offices. The windows that you see above the main level (for the most part) are simpy a fasade. There is storage space over Skyline and over what used to be Bakery. But, at King's Dominion's International Street, all buildings lining the fountains have a second floor. Some areas are used for storage, the offices for some of the departments were located there. When I worked in rides, the office where we picked up the employee time cards, ride capacity and maintenance request forms, and the keys to start the ride were located on the 2nd floor of one of the buildings. I know the park has used the 2nd floor in some of the buildings for a lounge for the walk around characters. I know that, at one time, the 2nd floor of the first building on the right side of IS (as you face the tower after entering the main gate), had a VIP bar and lounge. I do not think that exists any more. For 2007, Kings Dominion is getting a China Panda restaurant on International Street. It is replacing the Alpine Deli (last building on the right side of IS, just before you get to the tower). That park, for the last several years, has had the MOST dreadful food of any park I have ever been to. And I went to Six Flags Over Georgia during its dreadful food service years of the early twenty-first century, so that's saying something. Paramount's Kings Dominion even managed to consistently burn every piece of pizza in the park. I soooo hope Kings Island is getting a Panda, too. Yes its not too pretty back there, reminds me of of the 5th dumpster on the right in the ally behind the free clinic.... Woofer is correct not all the stores have attic storage.... A few do.... I think it was the 97 season i used a cherry picker to hang banners for Halloween n all the store fronts... Some are just fake facades as mentioned. It was funny, we went up into a few of them and we would find bundled packs of old t-shirts a employee would throw up there, we of course were allowed to keep them.... Nothing gets you in the spirit more than an 80 degree day in October, in shorts and decorating on International Street. wonder why they always rented the huge cherry pickers, i would have thought they would owned their own... with my scooby license i was able to drive anything except emergency vehicles..... was a blast when pki paid for our trip and test for pyro tech, we went to the state board in columbus to take the test. that is when the tower in Action Zone was an actual show.... however the show didnt last very long before it was axed.... Having thugs going through a restaurant with guns, fake or not, was not the smartest thing Paramount ever did. Amazingly, it was almost another month before the show was cancelled, and then only after dozens and dozens of complaints, at least one of them reportedly from a Columbine parent who had come to the park with family in an effort to forget. . . . Lord, folk are so darn PC some times. A more apt analogy would be that the bank, in the interest of putting on a good show, had a fake robber come in and hold up the customers. Sorry, but families with little kids at a theme park, trying to enjoy a quiet lunch, do NOT expect to encounter a Bugsy Malone type in a trench coat shooting a machine gun, with NO warning whatsoever. This show leaked right into the Stuntman's place. It was not smart. Besides, when did YOU start defending Paramount's idea of entertainment? Did you even SEE the show? A_Titanic_Mess Posted February 25, 2007 Share Posted February 25, 2007 There is a full second floor in the Spanish Building, which is where the candy shop is. The upper level at one time was used for area manager office space, but was then turned into storage. Before it was cleaned out a few years back, it was a treasure trove of old park memorabilia. Old photos, signs, programs, props were all stored up there. The plan was to use if for office space again, but it was not up to fire code, so it was not used. Not sure what it is used for now. There is also an upper level area in the front of the Festhaus, where the clock is, but there is not a lot of space for storage. Pretty cool though to climb up inside. There was also a working juke box and I used to always play Celebration by Three Dog Night. It had a really great sound system. Oh the good old days. The Interpreter Posted February 26, 2007 Share Posted February 26, 2007 ....and is gone for largely the same reasons that the International street Restaurant is closed, the humped bridges that used to be on many of the paths are gone and that the curbs on International Street and throughout the park that lined the paths are gone. . .
