PKIVortex Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I found some pics from KI that was taken in 1987, I thought you guys may have an interest in seeing them. You can view them here in the Kings Island Central Historic Photo Gallery. Enjoy! Quote
cincyboy79 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 such a great set of historical pictures. i am amazed at what the photo galleries on here have. but darnit it makes me start to feel old when i can remember the "old" days of KI :-D Quote
The Interpreter Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Ha! Some of us remember the glory days when Coney Island was THE Cincinnati area amusement park! Quote
CoastersRZ Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Unfortunately, those days were well before my time. It would have been nice to experience Coney in its heyday. Quote
beastfan11 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 You and me both! Ia ctually recived a very nice book abot Coney for Chrsitmas. Its a very good book. Quote
marlfox_21 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I've got a picture of me and my sister on a bench like that! WOW, thanks a lot for the memory! m.f. Quote
HomerJay Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Oh my, how those pictures brought tears to my eye! Family trips to KI were the best parts of my childhood! That five hour drive from Detroit to Mason with my grandparents, riding the "Smurf Boats" as we called them...I loved the Smurfs, but was always terrified the ride was going to brake down and I'd be stuck in there with Gargamel staring at me! That history section is basically my childhood preserved online! Quote
PKIVortex Posted March 7, 2007 Author Posted March 7, 2007 I'm really glad you guys are enjoying the pics. I'll be sure to share more with you all, when I find some more great KI pics from years past. Quote
Tuskin Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 haha i was really young but i do remember the smurf ride through where the scooby doo ride is now man i loved that ride Quote
PKIVortex Posted March 7, 2007 Author Posted March 7, 2007 That building has now been home to 4 rides. Enchanted Voyage, Smurf Enchanted Voyage, Phantom Theater, and now SDATHC. Quote
flightoffear1996 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Wow just when I thought this website couldn't get any better it just did. Great pictures. Quote
Steveo3631 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Ha! Some of us remember the glory days when Coney Island was THE Cincinnati area amusement park! I would have loved to ride the Shooting Star. The Minebuster at CW is no match. Quote
Tuskin Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Thanks guys, I'm glad I could help. im just excitied you have some of those they bring back so many good memories that massive slide was so much fun lol i remember when one kid got hurt on it when i was there and i think they took it out the next year lol if my memory is right Quote
The Interpreter Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Ha! Some of us remember the glory days when Coney Island was THE Cincinnati area amusement park! I would have loved to ride the Shooting Star. The Minebuster at CW is no match. And that's putting it mildly. Given my expectations, The Mighty Canadian Minebuster was among the two or three biggest disappointments of my coaster riding life. It most certainly isn't nearly anything like the Shooting Star was. Steveo3631 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I wonder where the Shooting Star traines ended up. They were new in 1961 and taken out of service in 1971. KI claims all the trains for Racer were brand new. I can't imagine Shooting Star trains with ten years service being scrapped. Quote

The Interpreter Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I have ALWAYS been told that two of Racers' trains were indeed those from Shooting Star. Press accounts from Kings Island's opening said the same thing. Quote
