March 6, 200719 yr I do not want to be considered a blabber-------- But I thought that Six Flags was in considerable bad shape ( money wise ) News in Orlando is that Six Flags wants to build in Christmas Florida........right now, there is still no official word.... Your Florida Eye.. m.f.
March 6, 200719 yr Would make sense they make money in year round places . And orlando is the capitol of Amusement. If they could come up with the money they could even make it themed after looney toons or dc comics. These days isn't everyone getting into florida or California.
March 6, 200719 yr They need to worry about the financial problems that they have now before they start playing in Disney's backyard, and splashing around in Universal's pool!
March 6, 200719 yr Marlfrox is a credible source and it is likely that SF could be looking into possibly adding a park in Florida. How far is Christmas from Orlando and if SF were to do this they'd have to deliver a VERY high quality year round park, thier current year round park isnt very desirable.

Which is somewhat like what I was saying....as of now, they can't compete!
March 6, 200719 yr I've been seeing rumors about a "Six Flags Florida" (and a "Texas Disney") ever since I first started reading rec.roller-coaster back in the mid-90s, and even before that on the Prodigy theme park forums (remember Prodigy--now that seems like a long time ago ) My initial thought is that it's just that time of year again...
March 7, 200719 yr I agree it is. They are in no condition to build another park. I mean in the last 3 years, they sold almost 8 parks(?) and building another one would be suicide with parks like Universal, Disney and BGE.
March 7, 200719 yr IF they thinkg they could compete with Disney and Universal the might as well. It may make them a lot of money and just might be able to pull them-selfs out of debt.
March 7, 200719 yr I always wondered why Six Flags or Cedar Fair for that fact, never wanted to open a park in Orlando or the Orlando area. It would make good business i'd think.
March 7, 200719 yr The problem would be the competion they would get from Disney and Universal all ready well established parks.
March 7, 200719 yr Not to mention that Universal Orlando isn't exactly raking in the money...read any business article about the resort's performance over the last few years, or even more telling--Bob Wright or Jeff Immelt's public comments about the tribulations of the theme park business. It really would not surprise me to see Blackstone buy the 50% of Universal Orlando they don't already own over the next few years, and simply pay licensing to NBC/Universal. As far as SF building a park in Florida...keep in mind that IOA cost a billion$ to build almost ten years ago. Where in the world would SF get that kind of cash, considering they've been in danger of not meeting the bank requirements on their existing debt a few times over the last couple of years? There's a well-written essay at a site called "Lost Parks" that talks about parks that were never built that really captures the logic of why a SF Florida project is unlikely (it's toward the bottom of the page...) http://www.lostparks.com/never.html
March 7, 200719 yr Very Interesting Article! Thanks for the info, very informative, and rather interesting:
March 7, 200719 yr I guess that is what explains the $70 admission for an entire week. I think Universal is way better than Disney but thats just me.
