CoastersRZ
He had some very kind comments with regards to Kings Island. He also mentioned that it was a 'beautiful park on par with some of the Disney parks'.
ragerunner
I would not want to be a Geauga Lake fan after hearing that interview. It sounds like more coasters maybe on their way out. Geauga Lake may very well become a water park only one day.
PKIVortex
Yeah but it would be nice to get Dominator at KI. I can dream right.
Vortex
Sounds like Kings Island is in good hands with Cedar Fair. I can see Geauga Lake looking more like Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom with the water park and rides around it. I wonder if Geauga Lake will a get a Nick land? jzarley
^ My guess would be no. For the same reason that the attendance/revenue isn't large enough to support the physical footprint, the same thing is probably true for the licensing costs for the Nick franchise. Did anyone notice in the CF annual report that the Nick characters got equal coverage along with Peanuts? Spongebob was right there on the cover with Snoopy. It certainly doesn't look like CF is planning on taking an early out with the Nick license anytime in the near future...
adam12
I would like to see the longer interview on Sunday, will that be on the internet too? I'm so happy for Mr. Kinzel, it sounds like he really got his wish. I think it is so cool that he had his eye on the Paramount Parks for so long and then the year he was going to retire they came up for sale. It is almost like it was meant to be, he is living his dream. You can never dream too big, I can't imagine a world where no goals exist. I love the business world and can't even express how wonderful it feels when something you created is a success. It is true that you eat sleep and drink your business, but if you love it, it really isn't considered work. That's my 2 pennies. adam12

CF has the rights to use the nick stuff. But i do not know if it would cost much more to apply it else where.
The Interpreter
Actually, Cedar Fair acquired the rights to use Nick in its existing Paramount Parks for the remainder of the licensing term. Anything more than that must be negotiated...
Kennywooddude
I don't trust a man who dosen't know when he bought a park. Also, it dosen't say much to say that WildWater Kingdom is the best waterpark in Northeast Ohio seeing as the only other waterpark is Pioneer Waterland and it hasn't recieved an addition since the 80's...Looks like Kennywood will become the new park up here. cstrwomann
I could not listen to the interview because the player keeps fading in and out can someone send a copy of it to me. Thank You
cstrwomann
It sounds like he's not happy with acquiring GL. He said the attendence is down (700,000) people and doesn't need big coasters. He also said the focus will be mostly water park at GL. What other coasters are we going to loose? He also mentioned Son of Beast as not getting alot of recognition since it opened. Are we going to loose Son of Beast? Does he make decisions for the company? He also mentioned that season passes might change again next season. I would assume that with a full year or more under their belts, CF would change the season pass procedure to their liking. I really can't see SOB going anywhere. The Interpreter
And when it comes to Cedar Fair, what Mr. Kinzel wants, Mr. Kinzel gets. May I introduce you to Ft. Kinzel at Kings Island? Cedar Fair is a limited partnership. Although you can buy units in it, they do not give you any voice in the management of the partnership. That voice belongs to the general partners. And that interest is normally not for sale. So, when it comes to Geauga Lake, what Mr. Kinzel says is very apt to happen.

Bill mentioned Attendence was up last season despite the shortened season. I think it's pretty good that a park, which recieved 700,000 guests in 2005 with a full season and The Haunt, managed to get 700,000+ for 2006 with a shortned season and no Haunt. Erosarrow05
can someone point me to some documentation stating where the nick licensing may be used?
padfoot714
I just watched the interview and read the extended version on the Plain Dealer's website and I am really pumped for KI now. I had heard people talk about how things were going to improve but I wasn't all that convinced. Now I am super psyched! Too bad for the GL fans though. It sounds like the hard park there is going to be taking some major hits. I was there last June and what Kinzel said sounds exactly like my experience. There were barely any people in the hard park but the water park was packed.
