Seems fitting that a topic about a chain being replaced starts off with a broken link.27 points

The gravel was specifically placed to obliterate any and all cell phones that may have the misfortune of slipping out of a pocket at the lowest and fastest points of the ride experience. Duh.13 points

Also, Vortex doesn't have a giant globe floating in the middle of one of its loops.9 points

How funny! My friend thought the same thing this summer while we were there.7 points

It really does look like The Vortex, but they could have just photoshopped out the supports for the publisher's desired appearance of the covers.7 points

They put gravel beneath Diamondback in the low to the ground places. My guess is so there is no need to mow grass in those low areas. Example of this at the bottom of the second drop: Photo taken from Google images..7 points

Really? But same training here. Controls doesn't press anything unless they get a signal to or they see something to stop a train. For our panels dispatch enable when pressed will illuminate the controls dispatch button(s). I looked for a high clear, did my checks, cleared the train, looked for that light, pressed the button. At any point if one released the button, the brakes would close stopping dispatch. Also I think practically every coaster has a dispatch delay. We couldn't send a train out, have the next roll in and station stop, then dispatch another train. The safety system does this on purpose. The soonest we could do it if we like got super early and held the buttons down was to dispatch right around lift crest, so it was still the wrong interval for dispatch, so you still have to watch the train movement at all times. I miss operations, alot..Way too fun at times. But..I like medical & IT better nowadays5 points

So, my brother has algebra this year, and he brought home his algebra book. When I first saw it I thought it was Vortex, but then I noticed there wasn't supports on both sides (which I found odd because I didn't think there was a full loop with just one side with a support). I turned the book over and the loop was on the back too, but with no supports. So it's possible that it is Vortex. What do you guys think? and if it isn't Vortex, which coaster do you think it is? Ha ha. There was an early experimental version. As a fifth grader, I used it at Morehead State College. Yes, that's what it was called.4 points

I broke the news to the Gatorettes last night. I started by saying "Conneaut Lake", paused until they were both looking at me, and told them. GatorGirl got sad and said, "That's what I thought you were going to say," and Mrs. Gator said, "But we were supposed to go there with Chris!" Hopefully they do operate this summer. We'll hold out hope! Blue Streak was running great last year.4 points

This is an interesting topic for sure! The most recent dialogue here prompted me to come on and give the guys - particularly the younger guys - a bit of wisdom. Two quick things: Guys - if you're with a good lady who has high interest in you AND you can make her laugh then she will be happy doing any activity with you. Be original with date ideas! There are a ton of fun, unique, and inexpensive things you can do together. Mix in some expensive dates with the less expensive ones. If you can make a woman laugh you'll make your job a lot easier (and you'll have more fun!). Be a gentleman. Say "please" and "thank you". Open the car doors for any woman who may be getting in and out of the car. If you're walking down the street make sure that she's on the inside. Classy women notice these things. Not only will you gain a ton of points but it doesn't cost you a dime!4 points

The Fenced in gravel areas on Diamondback are areas where the track is too close to the ground for people to be while the ride is in operation. These areas cannot be entered by employees, including maintenance, until all power to the ride has been diverted. (no diversion pun intended...)4 points
-
Here's my guess; the low areas of the ride are areas where nearby wildlife or other things can make their way onto or around the track, so they fence it off and, since they fence it off, they put gravel down so they don't have to access the area to mow.4 points

Top speed has nothing to do with the gravel. If you look at the photo I posted, you can see a train passing the camera area. That is gravel as well, and the train is not going 80mph there. At least one side of the Hammerhead has gravel, and the bottom of the drop off the MCBR has gravel. Most likely these places are here to prevent the need to mow beneath low track.4 points

Oh fine... I'll share my Kings Island couple story. See, back in 2010, I was at Kings Island for the first time since my early childhood. I had recently conquered my fear of coasters, and it just so happened that my quest to ride them all led me to the girl of my dreams. We met in Coney Mall. I knew it was love at first sight. Sure, she's a bit older than me, but she was still looking fine for her age. On top of that, I noticed immediately that she was wearing my favorite shade of blue. How can I resist a nice lady with good taste in colors, right? As soon as we met, she had me head-over-heels several times over. We were together the rest of the day after that first meeting. We were even together for the fireworks that night. I've been extremely happy to have her as a part of my life ever since, except for a brief period back in July of 2011 when she didn't seem to want anything to do with me. Or anyone else for that matter. She just barricaded herself away from people and refused to do anything. I never fully understood what was the matter, but a few weeks later, it was as if nothing had ever happened and there we were, spending nearly every waking moment together whenever we were both at Kings Island. Since then, the only bad time in our relationship was when her father Ron (who had become one of my personal heroes) passed away. It's been a turbulent relationship, but I don't regret a minute of it. And that's the story of me and Vortex. -homestar92, who suddenly realizes that he probably needs a girlfriend...4 points

There is likely a photo credit in the first couple pages which might identify the coaster.3 points

So what do you think they do with the old chains? Recycle? Refurbish? Paper weight? I have always wanted a chain link or a wheel that's out of commission for my amusement park memorabilia collection.3 points

Yeah..I always related it to the chain tensioner. There's an air..for lack of better words, the term escapes me at the moment, balloon, bladdar, etc. Is filled and attached on the return loop. On AE it really drops and shakes a bit keeping tension on the chain. Thats at least what I figured it was. That and combined with the train not matching the chain jog speed, is what I guess makes a nice jolt. Just my thoughts, other people may chime in a bit better. Quick Edit: Talking about this section, edit again, wrong shot To me though I kinda like that jolt, being a mine train ride it kinda..fits you know3 points

Deer? Bugs? Grass? What about humans? Didn't this group get a behind the scenes tour back there?3 points

I would think the constant noise of the trains would keep the deer away.3 points

I always wonder about those fences. I feel like they wouldn't do much to prevent a deer from getting in there. Deer basically have giant springs for legs with how well they can jump.3 points
