  2. Carowinds' new entrance reminds me a bit of Cedar Point's entrance; I think everything's gonna look really cool when it's done!

  3. Waking up on it... using it to catch up on lost sleep... to each his own. Too bad that getting Top Thrill Dragster up and running at 7am would be a tall order.

  6. One thing of note: That list was copied from the "What Meals Are Available When Using A Dining Plan?" section of the page. If you look at the section immediately above that, titled "Where Can I Eat When Using A Dining Plan?", there is one additional location listed that is not on the list of individual menu items, and that is the Reds Hall of Fame Grille. I'm very curious to see what they offer on the dining plan there.

  7. If I had that kind of money, I wouldn't be spending it on silly things like a Disney Monorail. I'd be spending it on silly things like buying one of every Saturn model ever made... Sadly, I think that $260,000 would probably be plenty for that, with cash to spare, especially considering I'm already 20% of the way there... As long as we aren't counting the EV-1... GM tried to scapegoat that... thing... on Saturn by putting it in their dealerships, but it clearly is not a Saturn because GM did not like it enough to put a ring on it.

  8. ^ The notion that you get what you pay for often doesn't apply in the hotel industry. In the midwest, I have had great experiences at ~$60 and terrible ones at ~$140. I like to look at online reviews, particularly the bad ones, paying close attention to the reported cleanliness & condition of the rooms. It's a good sign when a property reliably takes care of the small things. Regarding Coaster Campout, it's much more than in-park lodging. Part of Cedar Point is roped off and literally becomes your private campground. Rides open up just for the campers, resulting in some ultra-exclusive ERT. Stay up late chatting with friends & park officials, enjoy complimentary s'mores, or (try to) sleep. Get out of bed for breakfast & a shower, then step onto Millennium Force to finish waking up. Finally, pack up your tent before the park opens, and enjoy another day at the park with whatever energy you have left. It's a really cool event. But as Tony said in the PointBuzz thread, it's not for everyone.

  9. Good call, I hadn't noticed that. I thought they really cut down the options at Skyline, but re-reading, it looks like someone erroneously put some of it under "Rivertown Pizza" (not to be confused with "La Rosa's Pizza: located in Rivertown", which is also listed). Looking forward to trying a "Bruger" at Juke Box Diner

  10. According to the current info on the website, they seem to have streamlined their offerings (less options at some places, but more places than last year). 11. I can't stop thinking about what could be going on at the Tower Gardens spot. I think this is one of the most interesting developments ever at Kings Island.

  13. And if they do expand Soak City, there's always the parking lot to expand into. They've already taken that option once in 2012.

  14. Thunderbolt was a much cheaper obstacle than those transmission lines would be. I'm not convinced that the waterpark needs to grow in size. Some of the existing waterslides aren't great for capacity, staff utilization, or a modern guest experience.

  16. Nothing new for 2015. Of course, same was true of 2007. 2008. 2009. 2010. 2011. 2012. 2013. And 2014. The last of Cedar Fair's stand-alone water parks. Remember that when the thrill park closed in 2007, its fate was announced five days after it closed for the season. No goodbyes. No last tours. No last rides. No last photos. Nothing. I'm not sure that the current water park is worth an extensive drive to see, but if you want to get a last look at Wildwater Kingdom in Aurora, ain't no time like the present. http://www.themeparktourist.com/features/20140824/28153/lost-geauga-lake-how-worlds-largest-six-flags-disappeared

  18. The 3-way and cheese coney meal, along with two coneys and fries, is listed under "Rivertown Pizza". Did they forget to proofread? I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped the sandwich from the menu completely. I don't think I ever saw anyone order it last year.

  19. And if it's a Platinum Pass, the same applies for visits to other Cedar Fair parks.

  20. I think that's kinda the idea. Corporate identity, same designers, and all. Yep, there are definitely a lot of similarities between the improvements throughout the chain. Leviathan (or one of its predecessors?) started the massive entrance signage trend, Banshee improved it by adding fog and lights, and Fury 325 is repeating that. Just one example of the evolution of things. And of course both Carowinds' and Cedar Point's new entrances are crop circles. Aliens!

  29. Three maintenance guys are driving in a truck through Soak City. Guy A: You know there are people who stare at the webcams all day that will freak out if they think something is going on. Guy B: Really, why would they do that? It's just annual maintenance. Guy C: Yeah, but we could really get them talking if we just stop in front of the webcam, get out, and talk for a minute.

  32. It (Tower Gardens) has potential to be (an interesting development), but at this point it could turn out to be nearly nothing, too. If it turns into something interesting, they sure are slowplaying it so far. So far, it looks about as interesting as what they're doing with Action Theater (or whatever the old Days of Thunder was called most recently before its label disappeared off the regular season map, too). It may just be closed off in the regular season and only come out for Haunt. There is a lot of precedence for that in the park, including the new building by Beast many of us found so intriguing last summer.

  33. The EV-1 is the star of a very interesting documentary called "Who Killed the Electric Car." According to the EV-1 owners, GM took back all of their working vehicles and crushed them. GM says there was a battery safety problem. The battery company says they were safe. ...

  34. GM obviously had commitment problems when they made the EV-1. It's actually funny just how true that statement is.

  35. It doesn't open until the end of May, so maybe it's on the end of their construction schedule for the season? But nevertheless, it is on the Live Entertainment page (sorry, I mean Live E) on Kings Island's website, so I got a feeling it's here to stay. I'll be interested to see how it turns out.

  37. All those things are impediments or obstacles. Each can be overcome...the questions are how much does one want to and what's it gonna cost? See Phantom's Revenge and\or Thunderbolt. Where others saw "you can't do much because," the Henningers saw opportunity. Whether Palace these days would do likewise is at least a $64 question.

  38. Each campsite holds up to 4 people. $50/person is very reasonable for all you get, and all the money is going to a very good cause. This event was a lot of fun last year. My Carowinds/BGW/KD trip has four people splitting the cost of hotel rooms that are 50 a night. My goal is usually to spend as little time as possible in the hotel, so as long as there aren't bedbugs and I'm not in too shady of a neighborhood, I've got no qualms with going cheap for my lodging.

  39. You can't really do much with Soak City due to how the woods are next to it, the high voltage power lines and the parking lots/road. You can barely get though Soak City on busy days without walking on top of people now. And having a machine next to the wave pool can be for anything.

  40. I'm planning to spend most of the day down in the Cincy area. I want to go down to the river that afternoon and experiment with my cameras, give the one I traded for last fall its first decent workout. After that, I'll probably hit Panda Express on Tylersville for dinner before heading to this event.

  41. So, who else is on the list, and who (of those) are attending? Anyone up for dinner beforehand in Mason or West Chester? I need to check the timing of a work event, but - as of now - I think I'll be free.

  42. Just checked out the Fury 325 webcam facing the underground dive and all I can say is Wow!..... You HAVE to check out the "lightning bolt" lights striking back and forth under the tunnel! Amazing! ....On a somewhat related note....Lights have also been placed and aimed upwards at the support beams making them glow into the night. Carowinds Webcams Page
