  1. *Sigh* Everyone's an expert. Everyone who ever rides Congo or White Water Canyon. (too much of an exaggeration)
  2. Yea but the difference is when they were built, if you were driving down the road and saw ride pieces, on Son of Beast you would have seen a pile of wood, on el toro you would have seen pre-assembeled wooden pieces of track. That then begs the question: What makes a wooden coaster wooden; the material used in building, or the process of assembly?
  3. I'm doing that whole... college... class...thing, highly overrated...
  4. I personally dont see how getting a used Hang-n'-Bang from Geauga Lake is an upgrade but I guess if that's how Cedar Fair wants to distribute the goods, what can you do.
  5. Get together with friends from KI and sit around telling stories like a bunch of old war veterans. That and whatever I can do on the DeLorean. If the weather gets to where I do not want to or feel safe drivig it, I'll put it on jacks and detail the underside of it with WD40.
  6. This is my favorite picture, lol. 2:30AM in the offseason: "Come on Hank, this is the last one just take the bolts off" -"I Cant, they're all stuck, do we have any antiseize?" "No we dont, just pull harder, I want to get out of here and get paid for this job" -"I'm telling you its stuck" "AW @#$%! Just grab the darn cutting torch, I'm sure nobody will notice!" -"If you say so"
  7. I doubt the park would want to stop people out in the mid course brake that much. Every time there was a disability or any problem in the station, the train would definately set up. That in itself takes so much away from the already boring layout of SOB. That and Hurricane only had 2 trains.
  8. I'll say it again: In my opinion there is no reason to remove a ride unless: A. It is a maintainence nightmare, causing large amounts of downtime and having very high repair costs. B. Multiple Incidents. [on a par with Flight Commander or Superman Tower of Power] C. There is something far better lined up for its spot that CANNOT be put anywhere else. Now lets analyze Top Gun using the DeLorean Rider Ride Removal Analysis Method: A. Top gun has very little downtime. Little downtime=few repairs=lower running cost. B. Number of Top Gun incidents: 0 [The cherry picker incident in 2002 was not due to the ride itself, nor the person who had a heart attack in 2003] C. Last I checked there were no media releases about a CrAzY Intamin or B&M lined up for TG's spot. In addition, there are several other places that rides could be added before the park needs to start cutting rides. Not to mention, the valley that Top Gun is specifically designed for, isnt exactly the most friendly for building. Now lets list the reasons FOR removing Top Gun: ...[crickets chirping]... As far as I'm concerned, if you dont like it DONT RIDE IT! Shorter lines for the rest of us. Get your facts straingt, dont make assumptions! I will NOT be made an ass.
  9. A little bit, but the main thing is just how much better their transitions are, since ron toomer didnt design it in RCT. I refrence to the steel supports moving, Its steel, it sways, if it didnt sway, it would break. All structures are designed to give, if they didnt, eventually they would fracture. Now in refrence to The Vortex being a suspended coaster... wow... I think this may have just raised the bar for bad ideas. Possibly even more than that old idea of making Vortex a stand up coaster. Take a class in physics then re-think this idea. EDIT: On second thought, you dont need a physics class, just go the the park and look at The Vortex. Not to mention this is aside from the fact that all of the supports are on... the bottom of the track...
  10. Speaking of weird geese, My girlfriend and I were driving in the DeLorean out of the parking lot of the Meijer on Fields Ertal road when some geese decided to cross the street. There were no babies or anything just adult geese. Anyway we had both doors open and as we approached the geese, instead of continuing across the street, the turned and faced us and spread their wings and hissed. I stopped but they wouldnt move, eventually I just started driving slowly and they moved aside, still hissing at us with their wings spread. I supposed its possible that it would have happened to any other car but I like to think that the geese thought that the DeLorean was a giant bird challenging them.
  11. I knew this would happen when they appointed Alfred Hitchcock to the Cedar Fair board of directors!
  12. I miss when both sides of the antique cars ran at the same time.
  13. With that I guess I will agree. Except for the fact that Intamin has not gone broke.
  14. Well, if you really want, I'm sure you could get one that says "rank topic guy."
  15. So they brought in a crane for a motherboard? Interesting. With all due respect to KI Man, chalk up the broken motherboard theory to a dippin dots guy's opinion, its just a rumor hes heard circulating around through the employees, he works in games. Tomb Raider had a bad board in the audio/show system earlier this summer which was why the show was not running for a while. The issue now is mechanical. Everyone's an expert.
  16. Did Maverick and Millennium Force have lengthy downtime issues?
  17. There is an old saying: Take a piece of crap. Polish it up nice and shiney. What do you have in the end? A piece of crap. Maintenance could not have found the issues with SoB. Unless they were expected to a test on each verticle support everyday, which would have made the ride stay SBNO more than it already has. Or as I like to say, you cant make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t.
  18. Actually most park do hand you one, it is a called the "Park Map". Generally, the rules are typed on them. Actually, if you read the "Park Map" it is very general about the rules and only gives the basics. There is a line on the map that reads: A complete list of rules is available at Guest Relations. (however, just to try the system, twice I have gone up to Guest Relations to retrieve this "Complete list of rules" and they have always looked at me as though I had 2 heads. "What complete list of rules??" This was still with Paramount so maybe CF actually created a complete list of rules to be handed out as it says in the map) Are you kidding, most dont even get kicked out of line. Also, unfortunately, "line jumping is cause for dismissal from the park is a pretty empty threat. You'd have to be getting caught by the same person who had enough authority to kick people out for something to really happen. Also with the whole, bar metaphor, I'm pretty sure being informed of the law IS your first warning, if you proceed to light up you should be kicked out. In addition, shortly after the law had been implimented, I was at an Applebees in Middletown when a guy at a high top asked for an ashtray. The waitress then informed him of the rules and law. The man proceded to light up a slim cigar. The manager then came out and told the man that if he did not leave the premisis, he would call the police and have the man charged with breaking the Ohio law, and failure to comply with the company's rules (since Applebees has been smoke free for way longer than this law has been in place)
  19. I'm not sure you undestand. Myrtle Beach Pavillions was a Huss Topspin, Tomb Raider is a Huss Giant Topspin. See theres: The Topspin The Floorless Topspin The Giant Topspin Then there's this little beauty, the Vekoma Waikiki Wave
  20. I personally think that the only park that has their smoking situation under control is Holiday World. those of you who have been there have probably seen the large banners on EVERY light pole that say: Holiday World Now Smoke Free! Not to mention that their smoking areas are very clearly marked, and nicer than just a corner wtih some smoking boxes.
  21. Speaking of which, in front of The Beast sign is one of the "ride tombstones," which reads: Ghoster Coaster 1972-2005 I racked my brain trying to figure this one out and all I could come up with was that it was a mistake and the park figured most guests were so ignorant that it wouldnt matter. I thought maybe they somehow combined "Scooby Doo" in 1972 with the removal of Scooby Doo's ghoster coaster in 2005 but that still seems far fetched.
  22. Giant topspin, kinda describes itself.
